Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments Jon,

Thanks for the early Christmas present. I was more excited to find Bookmarks in my mailbox than any Christmas card. I was especially happy to find a feature on Michael Connelly, my favorite author.

Quiltgranny Ooooh ooooh ooooh! When will Santa come to my house?

message 3: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Quote from husband as he entered the house on Saturday:

"You're going to be happy. You received your issue of Bookmarks today!"

Somehow I managed to hold out on reading it until yesterday!

message 4: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Lisa, as soon as I saw that MC was featured, I thought of you. Did Jon take a special request?!?!

message 5: by LynnB (new)

LynnB *patiently waiting* It wasn't in today's mail...

No, but I think it's that psychic thread thing going on again! While I was in the car today, I thought, "I should post a hint that I'd love to see Michael Connelly as a featured author next year." No sooner had I thought it, I pulled up to the mailbox and there was my issue with MC waiting for me.

Hmmm..............quick, what else should I wish for? ;P

Jaime | 216 comments Yay! I received my copy yesterday and stayed up into the late hours reading much of it. I still have some left to enjoy, though. Perhaps I'll get to it while my son naps today.

message 8: by Wendy (new)

Wendy I did my "happy dance" by the mailbox yesterday when I got the new issue! My neighbors think I'm a bit crazy! I really liked the section "What One Book" about the Jazz Age - an era that I don't know much about but would love to read more about! I always enjoy reading the section about a book group too. Looks like lots of great books coming up in early 2010!

message 9: by LynnB (new)

LynnB Yay! My copy arrived today. I'll be reading it tonight...can't wait to get into it!

message 10: by LynnB (new)

LynnB Oh, my, I am in trouble! I am at page 5 of the magazine and have 7 books to be added to my TBR already...yikes!

LOL! You've only looked at the Bookmarks Selections and the coming soon page. You are definitely in big trouble. I hope you put Wolf Hall on your TBR. I'm hoping to find it under my Christmas tree.

message 12: by LynnB (new)

LynnB Did you peek?? LOL Wolf Hall is on my TBR.

message 13: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments HaHa! I didn't peek. Great minds read alike! ;D

message 14: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I haven't made my picks from this issue yet. I am such a nerd that I have to read the entire issue and then go back and highlight the ones I want to read and write them in my equally nerdy "Bookmarks To-Read Journal". 100% nerd.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I got my issue last night, and I have already starting shopping from it (I got an early gift card and was looking for ideas). I'm going to try 13 1/2.

message 16: by Quiltgranny (new)

Quiltgranny I don't think I've been naughty......:(no Bookmarks in the mail yet:(

13 1/2 is good. Different from her series, but good. I think you'll enjoy it.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

It definitely is out of my current genres, but I think it'll be fun to try something new.

Kate (kateksh) | 137 comments When I ever saw it . . . WHOOOO HOOO -- I'll wait until I can savor it . . . I'll wait until I can savor it, I can read one page, I'll just read the cover, I don't want it to be over . . .

TOOK IT TO BED AND READ THE WHOLE THING THAT NIGHT (although I skimmed a few things so that I can look at them anew later) THANK YOU FOR THIS MAGAZINE!

Beth Diiorio (beth_diiorio) Stephanie wrote: "I haven't made my picks from this issue yet. I am such a nerd that I have to read the entire issue and then go back and highlight the ones I want to read and write them in my equally nerdy "Bookmar..."

I am the same nerdy way! I read my Jan/Feb 2010 Bookmarks magazine cover to cover, marked all the ones I want to read, and already put my name in for particular requests at the library. The nerdiest part is...I absolutely love being this way...can't get enough of those books!

message 21: by Kate (new)

Kate (kateksh) | 137 comments I'm right there with you both, Beth and Stephanie -- first I read, then I highlight, then I list . . .wouldn't change a thing!

message 22: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie If only Jon could see all of us in our full-blown Bookmarks-induced nerdiness. Ha!

message 23: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie By the way, I had to move my Bookmarks reading lists into a three subject notebook b/c it outgrew my stylish little "bookstore" type notebook I had.

message 24: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I stick mine all full of those little sticky tabs -- looks like a porcupine on the sides! Then I list all the books I want to read in my notebook (alpha by author, of course, cuz I am an organizational nerd, myself). Then I file the magazines in a special file where I can refer to them later if I want.

message 25: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments Lynn, I use those sticky tabs too! I go back through old issues frequently, because what appealed to me 2 years ago may have changed. I often find MORE books to add, and wonder how come I didn't highlight them initially.

message 26: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I love those little sticky tabs! I use them all of the time when I check out "books of book lists" from the library. I go through with my little sticky tabs and then transfer titles to my to-read notebook with the name of the book they came from as the heading. I eat all of this book nerdiness up.

message 27: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments I bought highlighters that have the sticky tabs built in, but the highlighters ran out quicker than the tabs. I'm a sucker for stuff like this.

Bookmarks Magazine (bookmarksmagazine) | 32 comments You know, I have to hang around here more often ... my mood improves! Thanks so much for the kind words about the magazine everyone. Here's to good reading in 2010!

Jon

Thanks for putting out such a great magazine, Jon!

message 30: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (chkntza) I love Bookmarks Magazine. Not only do I find books I want to read I am also exposed to books that I would not normally pick up. My awareness has increased. Thank you. Keep up the good work!

message 31: by Quiltgranny (last edited Jan 09, 2010 11:52AM) (new)

Quiltgranny Because of Bookmarks magazine, I feel like I am a much better well rounded reader. I LOVE my magazine!!!!!

AND since Santa never brought my issue for me, and the New Year's elves had already packed everything away, I thought perhaps Bookmarks had my account marked down as being a very bad girl. Not so, says Jon (who personally answered my "help me" email alarm).

And now, I trudge through the deep snow, across one acre of drifts, with my face freezing, and my toes numb...and what do I find in the mailbox? YES! YES! YES! My Bookmarks, mmmm MY Bookmarks, YES, my Bookmarks!

Now, life can go on, the snow doesn't matter any more, and I can go snuggle in the corner of my reading chair with my post-its, my highlighter and my notebook and MY Bookmarks magazine. Life is good again!

message 32: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments I'm glad your name has been struck from the naughtly list! And, I can think of no better way to thaw out from the winter cold and snow than with a copy of Bookmarks. I'm happy you finally got yours. :D
