Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) Love the list! I haven't chosen mine yet but looking at yours there are few on it that I haven't read and own.

You will love the Mike Gayle ones! I have all his and have read 3 off your list and they were brilliant! I will have to go through my bookcases and pick out some for 2010. I have about 100 this year so would love to beat that!

Good Luck, and ENJOY!

DJ (djdivaofjava) | 659 comments So far I would say the Daphne du Maurier,as I have such love for Rebecca,I am planning on reading all the Rebecca related books......

DJ (djdivaofjava) | 659 comments I`ve listed all the off shoots as well as I have had them for ages and never got round to them, there is also THE REBECCA NOTEBOOK which is a vauge description of her plotlines it is ok but personally I expected a lot more from it and so I havent listed it as I felt people would be wasting their money....
I really believe you will enjoy it....

DJ (djdivaofjava) | 659 comments I know people rave about Margaret Atwood but I feel like I wasted 4 days of reading time on this!!!!!

message 13: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) The only book by Atwood that I've read was Oryx and Crake. I think I rated it as a 3. Pretty good, not super, though. I did like the ideas in it, but she's not the most compelling writer. What was the book you read?

I saw some other books on your list that I really liked, DJ. I read On the Beach last year. It was very good - depressing, but good. "Alice in Wonderland" is way different to read than what I expected after being raised on the Disney version. Darwin's books were hell to get through for me, but interesting in short doses. I loved "The Godfather".

I'd highly recommend you read an abridged copy of Moby Dick. There is a long, very detailed section on cutting up a whale that is boring as can be - actually, a lot of it is. I read & abridged version years later & loved it. Barely made it through the original.

message 14: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) Are you planning to read theothers in the Oz series?

Who is the author of Black Dahlia-there is a few with that title?

message 15: by DJ (new)

DJ (djdivaofjava) | 659 comments James Ellroy is the Author of The Black Dahlia...
Re The Wizard of Oz...Not sure I will probably decid after reading it.

I had to respond to your comment because I share your opinion. I don't see why Margaret Atwood is so admired.

I will be curious to hear what you think of Cakes and Ale. I read it a few years ago and quite liked it.

Hi Pat I am delighted to read your comment on Margaret Atwood as I was concerned when I first posted it that I would suffer a deluge of pro Atwood comments.
I will be most delighted to let you know what I think of CAKES AND ALE once I have read it.I will make a notation on it to remind me..
