Liz | 46 comments Ha! Made it in with one day to spare.

Goal: 100 words per day. That way I won't get too stressed, because it's my final year of highschool this year, and there are so many things I want to do besides.

A personal rule will be that editing already-written work does not count towards the words unless the content changes drastically. Songs and poems will count, and possibly school assignments. It'd be a shame to let those go to waste. Fanfic definitely counts.

I'm going to try and keep track of my total words per month and per year.

Good luck everybody!

Liz | 46 comments Okay, here we go.

My goals for January as decided 31 December 2009:
Finish Quinn, You're Just Imagining Things, Chain of Events, and CWC story. These are all short stories. I think Quinn at least may turn out to be a oneshot, maybe 2000 words or less! Now if only I could finish it...
Also, to work on my novel, Finding Nick.

Day 1
833 words. Goal met.
-680: Finding Nick (original)
-153: Chain of Events (fanfiction)

Day 2
2132 words. Goal met.
-1990: article for Impish Idea that will probably never be published.
-141: Chain of Events (fanfiction)

Day 3
46 words. Goal not met.
-46 on Chain of Events (fanfiction)

Day 4, 5:
nothing, as travelling from Melbourne to Stawell to Burra. Goals not met.

Day 6:
677 words. Goal met.
- 421: Chain of Events (fanfiction)
- 256: article for Impish Idea.

Day 7, 8, 9:
none, as travelling from Burra to Ceduna to Mundrabilla to HOME! Saw five guys on these three days, all cycling across the Nullarbor in 43 degree heat. One guy from Europe's fifth time doing it. Crazy. Spent what should have been my writing time videoing and following emus instead. Got some great shots, but they ran away when I got too close. Liz Attenborough's career has officially ended.

Day 10:
619 words. Goal met.
- 619 on a Christian Writing Contest story. Entries close on the 15th of Feb. I might go for something explicitly Christian for the first time in my life--I've spent too long stressing over implicitly Christian writing. Today is the day I claim the right not to integrate! Which sounds a little weird when you put it like that.

Day 11:
1059 words. Goal met.
- 1059 on the CWC Story that is still unnamed.

Day 12:
2240 words. A record, so far! Goal met.
- 1105 on CWC Story.
- 590 on Twilight Outtakes
- 545 on Impish Idea Article.

Day 13:
1563 words. Goal met.
-1321 on CWC Story
- 242 on Twilight Outtakes.

Day 14:
1014 words. Goal met.
- all on CWC story.

Day 15:
279 words. Goal met.
- all on CWC story. My sister's rabbit died and I couldn't help comparing her to our dog… I didn't feel much like writing, but it has to be done. For the first time in my life I have a deadline on something that matters, and I have to foster a habit of writing every day. But I don't even want to. I don't know if I got into character successfully today. My sister wants the computer. I'm going to let her have it.

Day 16:
1099 words. Goal met.
- all on CWC story that is STILL unnamed. Maybe I should just go for something generic like "renewing faith" or something equally clap-trappy like that.

Day 17:
1473 words. Goal met.
- 1170 on CWC story. I have twenty days to get this done and edited.
- 303 on Outtakes. Am glad to have gotten a bit more of this one done: a chapter in which Bella believes she has TB and rails against the seventies while Edward decries the very book he appears in and smirks at his gf in the background like Elvis Presley crossed with Keanu Reeves crossed with--you guessed it--Robert Pattinson. Ah, Twilight. Just hope the readers won't hate me.

Day 18:
124 words. Goal met.
- all on CWC story. I am losing my stamina in this, but I HAVE to finish it. I want to get SOMETHING published before I turn seventeen, and that's not so far away. Stupid me. Should have started earlier. Because if this story wants to make it into the category of 'short story', then I will have to edit this A LOT!

Day 19:
1455 words. Goal met.
- 1001 on CWC story. Would've written more but I had to go to bed.
- 454 on You're Just Imagining Things. Forging ahead. Emphasis on the hard work of all this. WANGST WANGST WANGST. I just want to finish all these stories that are floating around half-finished on my hard drive. Mel's thongs finally burst into flame, which is a turning point and means that something is actually happening.

A look at this makes me realise that I haven't written much on my novel at all: a mere 680 words since the year began. Oops.

So far: word count for the year is 14216 (!), and there have only been six days where I haven't met the word count, versus twelve when I have. I'm going to try and keep the amount of days when I write higher than the days when I don't.

message 10: by Anne (new)

Anne (mekone) | 142 comments Wow, what a start to your new year of writing! I admire your zeal!

message 11: by Liz (new)

Liz | 46 comments Thanks, Teresa! It's easier to do when I don't have any homework yet. But my last year of highschool is starting on the first of February, so my word count is going to go down, drastically!

I have moar updates now...

Day 20:
1626 words. Goal met.
-562 on Quinn - original. Very short story, like I thought. I'm predicting 1700 words at the most. What a relief it will be to actually finish something for a change! And I'm very close to finishing, now. I've got the scene sent out of the hospital finally, which was two thirds of the story, and the last third of the story is set at home. So I'm all good. I think it's working title, "Quinn", is going to become its title. It's a weird story in a way, because it's just that. A story. Not really any character growth or anything. Just that.
- 138 on House of Fun - fanfic. got one of the last plotlines starting to tie up now. What a relief. I know it's not true, but it feels like the longest fanfic I've ever done in terms of trouble, rather than words or time.
- 858 on CWC Story. 550 of those words in 20 minutes! Felix is going to get himself in trouble. Maybe drugs or something; and Mary is going to realise that her big brother doesn't know everything after all. This story is definitely going to be too long. I might have to cut the Patrick and tennis bit out... Shame, really
68 on Twilight Outtakes - fanfic
every little counts, I guess.

Day 21:
785 words. Goal met.
- All on Chain of Events. I'm really getting something done on this story here! One plot thread is actually finished. The end is in sight! And I'm on to the eleventh chapter! The last chapter I did was 1000 words, when the chapters for these stories are normally less than 800, sometimes even four hundred... I had the best time doing this session, because it was in this one that Rosalie finally got to break out the "Demon Spawn" line. Which is ironic, considering Breaking Dawn.
I write too much fanfic for a fandom I don't even consider myself a part of.

Day 22:
434 words. Goal met.
Lately the only thing that has made me keep writing is the thought of breaking my 12-day streak, or whatever it is now.
- All words on the CWC story.

Day 23:
356 words. Goal met.
- 353 on CWC Story - original
- 3 on House of Fun - fanfic.
Hey, every little counts!

Day 24
1239 words. Goal met.
- All on CWC Story - original. Going like a breeze now. The end is in sight. I think. Actually, maybe not. If you stood on a mountain, maybe you could see the end of this story in the distance, but there aint no mountains here, so... I'm definitely into the double digits. It can't go past 20 000 words, surely? I hope not. This is, after all, meant to be a short story! Anyway, that aside, I have a feeling it's going to be easier to do this now. At least I've stuck with it through the times when I felt it wasn't. I think I've only missed writing on it one day since I started this story.

Days 25, 26, 27.
Famous. Last. Words.
(no writing done at all)

Day 28:
1801 words. Goal met.
- 1240 on Theatre of Cruelty - original. I'm starting a new project, and I know I shouldn't be. Maybe I'll have to promise it to myself as a treat I can work on. This is one work I actually want everybody to see, and that I don't know if it should be published, because is subtitle is: "a novel in installments". I'm thinking of a pseudonym. 'Liz Craye' sounds all right as an anonymous name, but it's not my first choice. I'm staring at the same list of names I had as ideas three months ago. Life sux. Later: Ani Russo. I'm going to use that one. If I fool around any more, I'll drive myself nuts.
- 561 on CWC Story. Five days behind schedule. I have to finish, edit, and get this in by the 10th of February. I have taken a three-day break, and I have been writing basically nothing. After this is finished, I am going to make myself take at least one day per week off from writing. Am going to get rid of the character of Chantelle. She was part of the plot in the idea I had, but this is taking over. Not that I'm sorry to see her go. She was annoying me the whole time I wanted to keep her in, because it felt like I was doing something useless every time I wrote her. Looking back there's so much I can edit out of this, which is good. I want to keep it within the 10 000 word range.

words so far this year: 21902

message 12: by Liz (new)

Liz | 46 comments Day 29
No words. Goal not met.

Day 30
244 words, all on CWC Story - original
On the pen-name front, now I'm thinking Anie Russo, concerning my friend's opinion. He thinks Ani looks too much like Anakin somebody or other from Star Wars. Which I haven't even seen. Plus there's a girl called Anie in the book that he's writing. That I suggested. So it would be a little odd.

Day 31
857 words on CWC Story - original

Day 32 (1/02/2010)
1018 words, all on CWC Story - original.
School started today. Had to stay up too late to finish this, but getting into it is easier than I thought it would be. I guess as time goes by you get used to it. This is one of those statements that I keep making that means I have a 'famous last words' entry right after it. When will I learn?

Day 33 (2/02/2010)
269 words, all on CWC Story - original
Was so sleepy. I had to stay up late again to push past through to make the goal. And I wanted to write 1000 words on this story, too…

Day 34 (3/02/2010)
2149 words. Goal met.
1864 on CWC Story - original
It's a little hard to link all the ideas I want to link into one, but I'm making it through, slowly, and the end result isn't too bad. I need to have this done by Saturday night, morning preferably. Then I will start editing like crazy.
113 on Quinn - original
67 on Making a Living - original
105 on Song: You've Always Been There

Day 35 (4/02/2010)
777 words, all on CWC Story - original
Ah. To swear or not to swear. In the story, I mean. It's more realistic for some of the characters, but it is a Christian writing competition, and I don't know whether they'd accept that, or whether I'd accept that from myself! Then again, C.S. Lewis used 'bloody' in The Great Divorce… So I don't know. Back then it was probably a heavier swear word. To make up my words from today, tomorrow I shall have to write 2000 words. Maybe 4000. I just have to get this done by Saturday if it kills me...

Day 36 (5/02/2010)
2550 words, all on CWC Story - original
The pressure is on. It's getting closer to 20 000 words by the day--it was nearly 17000 words before I began. But I am going to edit like crazy, as I said. Just have to find the time… what with work and so on, I'm not sure… I'm so tired, but I have to keep going. I have to write enough so that it won't be too hard to finish this and start editing on Saturday.

I'm beginning to wonder if this story will be ready in time... but I so want to get a story published before I turn 17!

29766 words so far this year.

Liz | 46 comments Thanks, Daisy.

Wow... I kind of forgot this thread existed.

Anyway, since I last posted, I've boosted my total word count to about 54 000 words this year. Have skipped writing far more days than I have written, but am still far far ahead of my goal.

I think maybe 100 words was kind of a wimpy goal :)
