Ola (ola_cz) in 2009 i read much more than 75 books, but it looks like i'm gonna have much more work in 2010 so i don't know if i'll manage to read these 75 books. i'll do my best tho :)

2010 books I lost with:
1. Uprzątniete morze, wynajęte skarpety i pani Masło by Aglaja Veteranyi Uprzątniete morze, wynajęte skarpety i pani Masło by Aglaja Veteranyi - I've read Veteranyi's books before and they were wonderful, this one is catastrophic.
2. Misja SZCZENIAK by Jay Kopelman From Baghdad, With Love: A Marine, the War, and a Dog Named Lava by Jay Kopelman, Melinda Roth - too much about the war in Iraq, waaaay too much, written in a way that made this book inedible for me.
3. Julie i Julia Rok niebezpiecznego gotowania by Julie Powell Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously
4. Opowieści z Blarni by Michael Gerber The Chronicles of Blarnia by Michael Gerber

Ola (ola_cz) i just finished my no 1 this year, makes me wanna read more now! =D

1. Ssij, mała, ssij (Love Story #2) by Christopher Moore You suck by Christopher Moore
i kinda expected more. i really liked the 1st part - "Bloodsucking Fiends" but this one was nothing near it. such a shame =(, i gave it two stars only and i wouldn't recomend this book to anyone. it's a waste of time =(

i hope from now on, the books i read are gonna be better =D

message 5: by Ola (new)

Ola (ola_cz) Kay - of course i'm sticking with this group, i love it!
and Happy New Year to You too! :)

message 6: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1116 comments Yay for your first finish of 2010!!! I wanted to read some of his books, but now? Hmmm....Hopefully your next book will get more stars!

message 7: by Ola (new)

Ola (ola_cz) thanks Joy =)
i plan to read "Fool" this year, i hope it's as good as my friends say =)
take care

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 571 comments Hehehe... I decided to join this group as I'm convinced I'll not be able to reach in 2010 the same amount of books which I've read in 2009 ;)

Thanks for welcoming me ;p

message 9: by Ola (last edited Jan 03, 2010 06:12AM) (new)

Ola (ola_cz) Agnieszka, you're gonna kill us all with your 'read' list this year, and if not everyone - me at least ;-)

i've just finished my 2nd book this year - this time started in 2010 ;-)

2. Tak wyszło by Amélie Nothomb Tak wyszło by Amélie Nothomb
(2 stars)

Amelie Nothomb is one of my favourite writers but this but is a catastrophe. compared to her other books i've read this one was boring and repetitive. for a second time this year - waste of time. =(

message 10: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 571 comments Ola - let's see who will kill who with this list. 1st of January and "i've just finished my 2nd book" ;p

And as you know - in a few days I'm off for 8 months and then I'll rather hardly read anything :(

message 11: by Ola (last edited Jan 02, 2010 10:51AM) (new)

Ola (ola_cz) Aga, although we've a few run-ins recently ;-), i AM gonna miss you like hell. sorry if i didn't quite express it today =)

here goes my no 3:

3. Tony Takitani by Haruki Murakami Tony Takitani by Haruki Murakami [it's Agnieszka's book, btw =):]
(4 stars)

Quite an interesting story of a man that valued loneliness, worth reading.

message 12: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 571 comments Ola, you've got comment on your profile ;)

I'm glad you found Tony Takitani worth reading :) And I hope you'll also enjoy other borrowed books.

message 13: by Ola (last edited Jan 03, 2010 06:11AM) (new)

Ola (ola_cz) my 1st re-read this year:

4. Mały Książę by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
(5 stars)

i like re-reading books that i put on my virtual 'favorite' shelf. This one always makes me smile and remember of a few smart and really important things in our lives.

***
"You become responsible forever for what you have tamed."

Ola (ola_cz) 5. Désirée czyli czas próby by Heidi Hassenmüller Désirée czyli czas próby by Heidi Hassenmüller
(4 stars)

Although the narration seems kinda childish and naive, the story itself is very moving. I have to admit I cried a bit - it's just not to be understood why some people have to suffer this much. If you ever come across this book, if it's ever available in English - do read it, it's worth it.

This is one of my all time favorites. It is just so classic...and I find that it teaches me something new every single time I read it.

message 16: by Ola (last edited Jan 06, 2010 06:08AM) (new)

Ola (ola_cz) Jillian - same here, it teaches me something new everytime. I guess that's why we like it so much.

6. Skafander i motyl by Jean-Dominique Bauby The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby
(4 stars)

Maybe it's because of my book no 5, but this one didn't move me as much as I expected. It's worth spending some time to read it, but I don't think I'll ever re-read it.

Oh, too bad.

message 21: by Ola (new)

Ola (ola_cz) Kay - I really liked the 1st Shopaholic book, but in this one I had a feeling Kinsella didn't have anything original to say. I like Sophie Kinsella very much, btw, I decide to pretend the Shopaholic Series has never been written ;-)

10. Ring by Koji Suzuki Ring by Koji Suzuki

Real cliffhanger, worth reading.

I have trouble with books where the main charachter is a mess and can't ever seem to do the right thing. I've read two of the shopaholic books and they both left me irritated because of this.

Ola, this one really looks intriguing.

message 32: by Ola (new)

Ola (ola_cz) Kay - and it ('Venus as a Boy') is really good :)

18. Biały Tygrys by Aravind Adiga The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
(5 stars)

Great book, worth the Man Booker Prize it got in 2008. I strongly recomend it to everyone who'd like to read about the dark sides of India.

message 33: by Alecia (new)

Alecia I read The White Tiger a few years go and also thought it was terrific. I remember trying to read his next book, though, and putting it down with disinterest.

message 34: by Ola (new)

Ola (ola_cz) 19. Skrzynka mejlowa Holly by Holly Denham Holly's Inbox by Holly Denham
(5 stars)

I decided to call this one a pseudo-epistolary novel since it's written as a series of e-mails instead of letters. I'm not an expert on that so I'll not brag about my knowledge of literary genres ;-).
'Holly's Inbox' is a book that made me laugh aloud wherever I was reading it (buses and trams included ;-)). A nice, fast read (despite the fact, the book is 680 pages long ;-)).

Ola (ola_cz) 23. Jak Poślubić Wampira Milionera (Love at Stake, #1) by Kerrelyn Sparks How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks
(4 stars)

For me it's like a Harlequin Desire series but with some supernatural elements in it. It was an easy and pleasant read. There are some pluses and minuses to this book but all in all, it's ok.
Who would I recommend it to? Everyone who likes easy entertainment and isn't affraid of silly books, hahahaha.

message 47: by Ola (last edited Jun 20, 2010 09:49AM) (new)

Ola (ola_cz) Joy, it was ok, although i expected something more involving and hoped that the book - being so thick - would have more content, you know, not just, like for some 100-150 pages, jabberwocky ;-). i already have the 2nd part (the 3rd too) - a Christmas gift from my dad - And i'm sure i'll read it soon :), some friends of mine said "The Girl, who played with fire" is waaaay better than "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". we'll see ;-)
