Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments Happy New Year all!
My life is less chaotic at the moment so I am back to writing and setting myself goals.
Major goal for the year is to finish my novel, which I have been working on, on and off, for a couple of years.
Minimum daily goal is 200 words. I know this is not a lot but some days I have many commitments and I am setting a goal that I know I can achieve on those days.
I hope I can also find time to meet and chat with a few of you lovely people here in this group.
So now to it!

Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Day 1. 228 words on where I want to be at the end of the year.

Day 2. Typing up everything I wrote for the novel in a notebook while on holidays. Not sure of the word count as some of it was revision, but total word count for the novel so far is 1477.

message 7: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Needham (prettydamnnaive) Hey Valerie! I hope you have a great time with your goals this year!

message 8: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments Jan 2 continued: While sitting at Little Athletics watching the kids, did some more work on the novel. Wrote the next scene and also an outline for Chapter 2.

Jan 3. Typed up all I wrote Jan 2, also found an old notebook woth some character sketches for minor characters. Typed them up too and some notes on plotting. Don't have a wordcount but feel good about how much I've done.

I have decided I will post total word count for the novel once a week, probably Mondays.

And now to bed.

Callie (neverlandcallie) super totally awesome!

message 11: by Charmaine (new)

Charmaine (empress_charla) Hi, Valerie! Good job with sticking to your goal! Are you planning to get your book published, or is this story just for your personal enjoyment?

message 12: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments Ok, so I got caught up in the mundane again. We have put our house on the market and I am now working night and day to get ready for the first home open on Sunday the 24th.

Began again today. Wrote 211 words on my novel. TNWC is now 1808.

Hi Charmaine, yes I really want to get my novel published. A have a few other ideas for novels as well, so I will have something else to write as the first one does the rounds of publishers.

OK, back tomorrow.

message 13: by Paige (new)

Paige Miller | 672 comments Aah, the mundane. Don't you hate that?

message 14: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments Hi Tink. Yes indeed I do hate the mundane. Especially when it piles up on top of me and I can't see a way out of it. And I can't reach pen and paper to write about it!

Oh well, kids went back to school today, so start of a new month, start of a new school year, begin again.

As we have our house on the market, much of our 'clutter' has been packed away, and I'm not sure which drawer my thumbdrive with the novel on it went into. I did manage to find yet another notebook with a few pages of writing for the novel, so I will type those up for tonight and get back to the 200 word goal from tomorrow.

First I might just drop in on a few of the people who have been so nice as to come visit me. :-)

message 15: by Malin (new)

Malin (tusenord) Ouch, hope you find that thumbdrive soon!

My most innovative writing moment was in a café with a borrowed pen and on an envelope. I managed to cram over 1000 words onto that envelope.

Good luck with your challenge!

message 16: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments Did some writing with pen and paper, as I actually write faster that way. Have continued on from where I was with chapter 2, working from memory as I wanted to get something done before starting to go through boxes. I may have to edit it slightly so it integrates seamlessly with what went before.

The goal is 200 words per day, averaged out over the week. (1400 words per week minimum)
Today I wrote 388 words. 1012 to go!

message 17: by Malin (new)

Malin (tusenord) Really? I write much faster with a keyboard and I feel like I can easier go back and add stuff etc so I feel very limited when I use pen and paper. However, I like the feel of the pen against paper and how the letters line up. There's something very special with sitting in a café penning down a story.

message 18: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments I think I may be showing my age a little. 'In my day we didn't have computers to do our writing for us...'
hee hee hee
I actually like the fact that when I write on paper, if I cross something out and change it I still have the original there in case I want to change it back.

Must go and cook dinner for the family.

message 19: by Malin (new)

Malin (tusenord) I feel a thorn of insult... ;) Yeah, that is good. I have a trouble with thesaurus and finding words when I write by hand. It usually end up with a weird word in a circle to tell me I need to change it.

message 20: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments Sorry, certainly didn't intend any insult. I was doing a satire on older people complaining about 'young people today!' I actually try to keep up with modern technology as much as possible, but it's not instinctive like it is for the younger generation who have been brought up with it.

message 21: by Malin (new)

Malin (tusenord) I was only teasing you! I've often pitied the people who had to write and edit their whole manuscripts by hand... Maybe that's why we have so many 'pop writers' today - it's too simple to write.

message 22: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments Ok, so I haven't been around much. Life went and got hectic on me again.
I have been writing, comcentrating on the novel for the last two weeks or so. TWC is now up to 3512. That's Chapter one and Chapter Two. Tomorrow I start on Chapter three. But Monday to Thursday of next week I will be concentrating on writing a piece for Writers Circle, and writing the poetry workshop I will be presenting at the writers circle meeting.
And now I am off to bed.

message 23: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (veegood) | 13 comments Wow, where did the months go? Life and work and all happened I guess. I have now moved into my new house and am settling down to write again. (In the meantime I have also worked with my Writers Circle to create and produce the first issue of our new magazine.)
Anyway, have just finished chapter 3 of the novel, TWC is now 7819.

Hey Valerie, it seems like it's been a few months. How has the writing been going?
