Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments *Don't be shy. If you want to start a discussion thread, feel free. Please browse the threads to make sure it's not a duplicate first. If there is not a thread related to your discussion, feel free to start one. The moderators will make sure the thread goes into the right folder.
*All of Lisa Kleypas's released books are on the bookshelf. If you have an author who writes in the vein of LK and you want to add it to the bookshelf, by all means. Please don't delete any books that were not added by yourself.
*We have threads for all the different books, and characters (please feel free to add one if you don't see one for your favorite).
*Because there are quite a few threads, you have to click on 'view all' to pull up the whole list of threads. If you're not seeing a particular thread, try this.
*Let's be considerate of those who have not read the different books. Each book thread is considered to have spoilers by default. If you are posting on a more general thread, please use a spoiler space.

message 3: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 392 comments Does anyone know the hierarchy of the different positions? Does a Duke rate higher than a Baron, etc? I remember reading a book that listed them, but I can't remember anymore all the positions or their rankings.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) The five British peerage ranks in order of seniority are duke, marquess, earl, viscount and baron.

Duke
- the title of duke (from Latin Dux, a leader) was created by King Edward III in 1337 and is the most senior rank in the peerage. Edward of Woodstock (later known as the Black Prince) was created Duke of Cornwall in March 1337 by his father Edward III. - the wife of a duke is a duchess
Marquess
- the title of marquess (from the term Marchio), now ranks between duke and earl. During Norman times (ca 1066-1154), marchio was given to earls and barons who guarded the Welsh or Scottish marches or border territories. It lost its territorial meaning in the 1100s. The first 'marquess' was Robert de Vere, Earl of Oxford, when he was made Marquess of Dublin in 1385. - marquess is sometimes spelled the French way 'marquis'. - the wife of a marquess is a marchioness
Earl
- the title of earl, derived from Scandinavian jarl, is the oldest English title and rank. In the Middle Ages, it was placed below the rank of marquess. - the wife of an earl is a countess
Viscount
- the title of viscount (with its origins in Vice-Comes, a deputy or lieutenant of a Count) ranks between an earl and a baron. John Lord Beaumont was created Viscount Beaumont (in England and Viscount Beaumont in France) in 1440 by King Henry VI - the wife of a viscount is a viscountess
Baron
- the lowest rank of the peerage is the title baron. It was introduced into England by the Norman kings. The first baron created by patent was John Beauchamp de Holt who was created Baron Kidderminster by King Richard II in 1387 - the wife of a baron is a baroness

Judith McNaught's books explain a bit about the peerage ranks. She mentions Debrett's Peerage quite a bit in her books. This is essential reading for young ladies of the ton.

message 11: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments I have an idea for this group... there are so many ladies that are members in our LK group that have such good imaginations and writing skills and I thought it would be fun if we wrote a story together. I was thinking that someone could start it and then whenever someone feels like adding to it they can add a paragraph a sentence or even just a word and it can be a continuous story. Is that a good idea and would anyone actually like to participate? What heading would it need to go under?

message 12: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I think that's a great idea, Cheryl. If you'd like, I can create a discussion thread and then you can start a thread for the story. I'm not sure I can participate right now. But I'd like to do so in the future.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Moderator Request Regarding Posting of Pictures
The eye candy is great. Seriously. Just keep in mind that some of the members access the group on work computers, which often have restrictions about looking at risque material or photos. As such, please mark any pictures that have exposure of the naughty bits (lower abdomen/groin area/rear end, or breasts on a female) or very explicit photos with a warning, so that the member can avoid opening the post. Thanks!

message 17: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I agree! Please mark accordingly. I would like to continue accessing GR on work time! :-)

message 18: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I'm glad it's not just me, Bekah. I can get fired for looking at porn at work. Someone else's porn might be a bare-chested man to the rest of us. I love Goodreads, and I really appreciate being able to access it during work.

message 19: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I'm marking those threads with **NSFW** which means for everyone's information Not Suitable For Work. That way you've got the heads up. Is this ok with everyone? If so, please use this format for these threads in the future! And by all means, keep posting the eye candy!! :-)

message 20: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments We've tried to keep the 1 thread per topic rule consistent. A new eye candy thread was started, in addition to the existing one. Should the new one be closed to be fair to the others who have had their threads closed because of duplication of topic?

If so, I can close it to new posts, and direct them to the existing thread.

message 21: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I don't think that there only needs to be one thread. I have no problem with threads, i just need to know which ones not to click on between the hours of 8-5.

message 22: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I understand that, for sure. No one wants to lose their job or be reprimanded for viewing inappropriate images at work! As a rule, though, we've been keeping it to 1 thread per topic, and other threads have been closed because they were duplicates. I'm concerned with OKing some and not others. That's my main concern. Does that make sense?

message 23: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (last edited Mar 31, 2010 10:07AM) (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I can see where you're coming from, Dhestiny. In fairness to others who have had duplicate threads closed, we should probably be consistent and close the additional Eye Candy thread. I don't think it's fair to change precedent in this case just because it's pictures.
The Who Would You Cast thread is different in that it's related to casting for the different LK characters.
I also agree with Bekah about the NSFW title. It's a good way to clarify which threads might not be good to open in mixed company and work.

Just so that we're all on the same page, here is my suggestion: Dhestiny, please add to the rules that any duplicate threads will be closed and moved to the existing thread.

For the Wet Thread, I think it's fair to allow the posters to move their messages over to the eye candy thread. Rachael can add any pictures there.

Bekah, please add that to the rules that threads with Risque photos/content will be marked NSFW.

How does that sound?

message 25: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments There's not enough space available to add it to the group's description/rules section. Would you be ok with starting a thread in the General Folder stating rules, etc?

message 26: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Bekah, thanks for adding the NSFW warning. That's awesome!

I made a bookmark listing the rank of the guy's and their female counterpart in descending order from Duke\Duchess to Knight\Lady The title of Knight is conferred upon the person for life and is not hereditary the rest are though. If I read a book with various ranks and start getting confused I just pull out my bookmark and its the one I use for the book

I didn't know that, I've always pronounced it more like it has no U Vis-cont so it should be Vi-count?

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments The way I do it is this:

First, go start a free photobucket.com account.

Once you've saved the images on your computer, remember where they are, and go back into photobucket.

Upload the photos into photobucket, and once they are there, several different codes will be generated. The code you want to use on goodreads is the one that begins with < a

Copy that entire code and then come back here and paste that code into a chat box. Click PREVIEW to make sure everything is working, then click post.

Hi Danielle - I know there is a thread for Favourite Song but I wandered if anyone would be interested in a separate thread for Your Favourite Romantic Song as we are all romantically minded. If so, being new I am not sure how to set one up.

message 43: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Hey there, Carol! We've tried to keep the number of threads to a minimum otherwise it becomes confusing as to which thread a particular image or song or story, etc., was on. We've ended up deleting many threads that became inactive due to having too many of similar topics going, so I think that sticking with the one favorite song thread is the way to go, but we can wait and see what Danielle thinks.

message 44: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I think we should try to keep the similar thread numbers down, but you can post on there and ask people what their favorite romantic song is Carol.
