I know exactly what you mean. It was so good to read a book where I couldn't predict where it was going.
Mockingjay seems so far away! I am eagerly anticipating it's arrival... and I'm sure some more shocking twists and turns!

(Have you realized that Peeta's a baker, and he's named after Pita bread)

omg! count me in!!! XD hahaha, i was pro-gale before but after reading mj i was like "uuurrrgghhh" gale's so like LAME! >.<
yes! PEETA! forever!

If anyone is debating where to read them, you won't be sorry if you do!

Definitely not good as the first in my mind. I also found this book far more brutal than the first. Probably because I now know the characters better and the cruelty of the Capital just kept on getting worse. I feel for Katniss so much in this book. All she wanted to do was save her friend and herself, and in return she finds herself in a worse situation in fearing for the lives of all of the people she loves. I'm still not sure on how much I like Peeta. He's too one note for me in his sacrificial love for Katniss. He has a family, but never thinks of them and finds no reason to live other than Katniss. At least Katniss thinks of Prim, her mom, Gale, Madge, Haymitch, Rue's family, etc.
I adored the few tender scenes we had between Gale and his Catnip. But I hated how Peeta was a huge source of strength for Katniss. Especially in the Arena when she liked kissing him.
President Snow has to be one of the most villainous characters ever. To send back the victors into the Hunger Games Arena is beyond cruel.
Planning on starting Mockingjay today.

I finally got around to reading this book and just finished it today. It was a lot better than I was expecting I think. I had been putting it off since it first came out. But the movie release gave me the extra push I needed to read it.
Are the other two books in the series just as good? Better? Worse?
What do you all think?

Have you seen the movie? Or are you reading it first?

I did the same thing. I wasn't going to go see it till I finished it. So I went the other night once both me and my friend had finished the book. There are differences, but it's definitely a good movie.

Loved the books and really enjoyed the movie. I thought they did really well with staying with the book. Can't wait for Catching Fire movie.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Katniss' sister is chosen by lottery, she steps up to go in her place.
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.
