A member suggested we try to read a book outside of our normal favorite genre/s. Any genre outside of your realm counts. Hopefully you will possibly find a new favorite genre or author.

Please post your challenge genre and book that you choice on here. Let us know how you feel about being outside of your box and how you felt about the book that you read.

Miss (godblesseveryone) | 6 comments I did try to read out of my usual genre and that is romance books. The genre that was my challenge was a mystery novel known as The Lovely Bones. Did not like the sadness of the book and gave it only I think two to three stars.

Right now I'm reading Funny in Farsi A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America by فیروزه جزایری دوما / Firoozeh Jazayeri Dumas . A non fiction memoir. I am not a fan of memoirs but this book is actually good. I laughed out loud several times.

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 130 comments I am going to read The Count of Monte Cristo as soon as it comes from the library. I don't, for the most part, like classics. I am hoping to change that now that I am reading one that everyone seems to like.

Let us know how the read is for you.

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is fabulous - it's the first of a trilogy though, last one is due out in May. I was bummed when I figured that out.

Hmmm, the only books I don't really read are romances, and it's not that I haven't read any. I'll have to think about this one a bit. I kind of read everything.

Denise (redreader) | 34 comments I started the year with the thought of reading more Western novels. I love the history of western world...but rarely do/did I read western books. I have read a few and they are ok, but I find myself looking at my "normal" - horror - which I have been away from for a while but really feel a draw back recently.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Westerns to Horror. That is quit a difference.

weird.even here it has already come out

message 15: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) I live in North Dakota - when I went to Amazon I could pre-order the third. I know the author was from Europe and died shortly after sending the manuscripts to the publisher...guess they are dragging out the US publication?

Western is a genre I haven't read much in at all. My grandpa loved them, I'm not sure what happened to all his books...

message 16: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) he is swedish, I think

message 17: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ i think i will challenge myself with more science fiction or thrillers. i tend to stay away from these titles. i did read a great sci-fi book called the unit. it is really a book about the future of the world. an interesting take on what is to happen to people.

message 18: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) cool.I reccommend the hunger games

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

The unit sounds good. Hunger games is a great recommendation.

message 20: by Miss (new)

Miss (godblesseveryone) | 6 comments Indeed it is because many people have recommend it to me but I haven't had the time to read them. They have also recommended to me the Maximum Ride series.

message 21: by KSMary (new)

KSMary The Maximum Ride series is on my TBR list also. My DD really liked these books.
