I just bought On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews Wicked Enchantment (Dark Magick, #1) by Anya Bast Dragon Blood (Hurog, #2) by Patricia Briggs Dragon Bones (Hurog, #1) by Patricia Briggs

I probably won't like the dragon books since I've never really gotten into dragons before, but since they were written by Briggs I'll give them a try.

Go ahead and use this space to tell us what you've bought. You can also tell us what you've checked out from the library or borrowed from a friend.

Gone (Dream Catcher, #3) by Lisa McMann showed up on my doorstep tonight. Amazon got it to me the day before it released. I'm shocked!

Also First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) by Jeaniene Frost got delivered to my Kindle. It's going to be a great Tuesday.

I'd never heard of that one before. Let me know if it's any good.

message 8: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (wildcherry) It will probably be awhile until I get to it but I will def let you know!

message 9: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments You guys have picked up some great ones. The early Patricia Briggs are good if you like more sci-fi ones, I think the Mercy ones are better.

Steph I just read all 3 books that are out with that series and they are good. Different from what is out there, and they get better as they go on.

message 10: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (wildcherry) Thanks for letting me know Darcy. Sometimes I get worried when I buy a book before I check it out on here first!

message 11: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I'm the same way a lot :)
If I find a book I think looks good I immediately think "I have to look it up on goodreads."
But I hate it when I think a book is going to be REALLY good, but then it has like a 3.78 rating only=/
I usually look up books on here, but I still try to start the book without biased-ness.

I just pick stuff up at the store. A lot of times I get ideas from goodreads, but if I see something that looks like it might be okay I just grab it. I can't say no for some reason. I'm an addict.

ahaha, I usually pick up books immediatlely too :)
I get some of my books from BJ's so I'm paranoid that if I don't buy it the same day I see it, the book won't be there the next time I go.
I usually buy a book depending on which parent I am with, or how much money I have.

My husbands like that too. He'll be all ready to go out with me and then changes his mind when I mention a book store. He's not a reader. He gets coffee and looks at magazines if I manage to get him to show up.

Today I got Brighid's Quest (Partholon, #3) by P.C. Cast Blood Magic (World of the Lupi, Book 6) by Eileen Wilks Doppelgangster (Esther Diamond, #2) by Laura Resnick Inked (Includes World of the Lupi, #4.5) by Karen Chance

I'm reading the rest of the World of the Lupi from library books, but they don't have the newest one so I figured I'd grab it and I came home with 3 more. That's good for me. It was less than 10. =)

message 20: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I am interested to see how Carrie Vaughn does with YA. I love the Kitty series so hope this one is good. I am #1 on the list for it at the library, just need them to process the book and get it to me.

So, I traded in some books and dvds that I didn't need anymore and got $60 worth of credit towards more books. Wohoo!!! I normally don't buy used since I'm horrible about needing my books to be in perfect shape, but I found a lot that were good enough for my standards and I still had $20 left over for next time.

I got:
The Good, the Bad, and the Undead (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #2) by Kim Harrison Every Which Way But Dead (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #3) by Kim Harrison Envy (Luxe, #3) by Anna Godbersen Rumors (Luxe, #2) by Anna Godbersen Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress (Sisters of the Moon, #5) by Yasmine Galenorn Bone Magic (Sisters of the Moon, #7) by Yasmine Galenorn and Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs .

Oh ya... my husband bitched the entire time! =) I was only in there for an hour and 20 minutes. Gee...

message 23: by Darcy (last edited Mar 24, 2010 06:47PM) (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments You got a bunch of good ones Heather.

I know what you mean about not getting used. I am find with getting books from the library, but if I am buying them I want them to be new and for me to be the first one to read them.

message 24: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Recently I bought Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins , Beastly by Alex Flinn , Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry Trilogy, #1) by Simone Elkeles , and Leaving Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #1) by Simone Elkeles .

I have been really good about buying books lately. I'm trying to only buy books where I already have the series or I just have to have it on my shelf. I actually went and got a library card today! I am pretty sure I will buy at least one of the books I got there though, lol.

message 25: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Ya, I've been trying not to as well, but it was get 20 in cash or take 60 in store credit. I still buy the new releases that I've already had previous books in the series of, or ones I've been waiting for and know the library wont have for 6 months or more.

message 26: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments Boy with that deal I would have taken the credit too.

So, I went to the store for the sole purpose of getting Moon Called since it's worth buying and I had checked it out from the library when I first read it. Or so I though... Now I have 2 copies. =) Opps. Luckily I've been trying to encourage a co-worker to read the series and by giving her the copy she'll actually get into it.

At least I got other stuff out of my excursion.

For a Few Demons More (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #5) by Kim Harrison A Fistful of Charms (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #4) by Kim Harrison The Outlaw Demon Wails (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #6) by Kim Harrison White Witch, Black Curse (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #7) by Kim Harrison

I got two of them in hardback for 5 bucks. They were cheaper than the paperbacks. I didn't get book 8 since I'm not paying $25 dollars for a book. I'll get it at the library or wait for a coupon.
I love gift cards! I get to buy stuff.

message 30: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I just ordered Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa and The Awakening (Darkest Powers, #2) by Kelley Armstrong on bn.com (:

I have already read The Awakening and Shiver, but I had to buy Shiver once I read it. And I have been waiting for The Awakening to come out in paperback for a while. I'm kind of psycho about having every book in one series in the same format, so since I had The Summoning in paperback I didn't want to buy The Awakening in hardcover.

I feel kind of bad because my father insisted on buying all of the books for me, and he wouldn't allow me to even pay half off the price. :/ And of course my mom had to make me feel horrible about buying the books. She thinks books are a waste of money and enjoys telling me, every single time I buy a book, that there is no reason for me to buy books since there is a library. -_-

message 31: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Well, if you don't buy a few every now and then authors don't get paid so... Just don't go crazy like some of us. Set a side a money or book limit per month and don't go over it. And while I love BN, Borders has better coupons.
I'd like for all of my books to be in 1 format, but I can't wait the year for the paperbacks to come out.

message 32: by Jasmine (last edited Mar 29, 2010 09:11PM) (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I force myself to have some restraint when buying books, lol. I try really hard to holdout for a book to come out in paperback if the other books I own in the series are also in paperbaclk, and so far I have been really good about waiting. I'm a neat-freak in that way. All my books have to be perfect, and in similar format. My bookshelf is actually the cleanest part of my entire room, hehe.

I enjoy buying books, and I usually don't go THAT overboard on buying books, but I hate how guilty my mom makes me feel, lol. Even when I'm using my OWN money that I have saved up she still gives me this...look. It's like "I don't approve of what you're doing." loll She just doesn't see the point in buying books...I have tried to explain why I like buying certain books instead of getting them out from the library but she just doesn't understand.

message 33: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments My dad doesn't understand book buying either. Thankfully, my step father was an avid reader, so he didn't count buying books as gifts or extra $, he just thought if I wanted to read, then he'd support my habit. I read a lot of used books back then though. Now I am a grown woman and thank god my husband doesn't bug me about my book buying.

The summer months, that's when I spend most my money on books. There are so many books coming out this spring/summer that I have to buy. And unlike Jasmine I can't wait till the paperback comes out, I have to get it immediately! I love hardcovers, and here in Canada, they are so much more expensive.

message 34: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments Ahaha, I like hardcovers too but sometimes I can't get my hands on them, so I have to buy them in paperback =/...I know I'm weird for needing everything in perfectness, lol. My friends constantly tease me about it.

message 35: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
You're not weird. I use to be so bad I would go out and re-buy books I already owned to get them the same. I've got too many books now so I've learned to overcome issue. Also, since I'm reading more I'd be broke if I bought everything I read. I use to hate using the library. I wanted my very own copy of everything.

message 36: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Jasmine, you are not weird. Or at least you are not weird for a goodreads member, lol. Most of us have our own book obsessions!

I used to buy multiple copies of books as well. Mostly it was because I had the hardcovers but wanted the paperback for the gym, so I'd always have 2 of the same book. I was going to buy the new City of Glass coming out that has the first chapters of City of Fallen Angels and The Clockwork Angel in it (hey did you hear about that? It's awesome!). But I think I might just go to the store and read it. I really don't need 2 of the same book and I'm trying to be good.

message 37: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments aahaha, I don't do that! I just read the excerpts online or go to barnes&nobles, lol.

I'd be broke too Heather, hehe. I usually buy books if I know I'm going to read it over and over again/if it seems really good. I have actually bought a few books that I really regret buying, but hey not every book I get can be amazing, right? (:

Today my friend invited me to go to B&N with her, and who was I to refuse? And I can't leave a bookstore without getting at least ONE book ;) So I got Numbers. I'm not sure if I'll like it or not...but if I don't I could always return it. (:

Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs

I wasn't feeling good yesterday and I mentioned to my husband that it was bad timing since I had been planning to get this book for months. He went out and got it for me on his way him without me even asking if he would. He's not trained to clean the house, but I'll overlook that (for now) if he's nice enough to come home baring books.

This isn't one I'd normally buy, but it was uber cheap so I picked it up. Evanovich's Plum series is great. Her other books are fun, but not purchase worthy.
