Just for fun. Here is a place to have your say about books that you couldn't stand. Books you couldn't even make yourself to finish. Or a book that a good author wrote that happened to be super disappointing. Let us know! Rant, rave, and hate if you need to get it off your chest.

Post author, book, and reasons why you highly DONT recommend the book to everyone.

*Beware* Should be interesting!

Cara | 44 comments Oh I'm first! So many to chose! Ok I totally hated I Am the Cheese. I had to read for school and I totally did not get it. I even had to write an essay for it and I just totally BS my way through it. I think he was kind of crazy and well he kept thinking he was the cheese of the old rhyme (can't remember at the moment). I even watched the movie (in class of course) still didn't get it. I just can't like a story that I don't get. I have to grasp on to something.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to say that I honestly have never heard of that book.

message 4: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ snow. don't waste time.

message 5: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) you probably all know y opinion of charles dickens by now but Ill keep saying the mans better than a sleeping pill

message 6: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) I also could not stand Charles Dickens. I am not interested in reading five pages about the chair in the corner of the room. Another book that I would not recommend is Stupid and Contagious.

message 7: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) thanks halleluia someone who comprehends me

message 8: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) If you don't like Dickens don't read Agatha Christy. She has the same writing style. :)

message 9: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) *coughs* too late...my moms a huge fan and she literally made me rad The Thirteen Problems . not a good experience

message 10: by Cathrine (new)

Cathrine (cathrine_bock) I would say don't read the Sookie Stackhouse series. I picked them up just because I love the show True Blood, but they just ended up being a disappointment. I'm on the third one right now and having trouble continuing. I say skip the books and just rent the show on DVD. There are quite a few differences, but in my opinion, the show improved on the story tenfold.

message 11: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) You know that sometimes happens when a book joins the tv or movie genre. I saw news that Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger is becoming a tv. show. I am curious if it will be better than the book. I was a little disappointed by the book.

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (miss_jana) The Kissed by an Angel series by Elizabeth Chandler was probably the worst series I've ever read. Sadly, I finished it because I was SO hoping it'd get better.

I don't want to post any spoilers, but I will mention there's animal abuse in it and I won't tolerate that. That probably the only book I own that I had to get rid of.

message 13: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 13, 2010 07:00AM) (new)

Mr. That title brings back memories. I had to read How to Win Friends and Influence People for my HS accounting class. But I don't remember what was in the book. Not really.

message 14: by Julie (new)

Julie S. I really disliked Forever and Prep: A Novel.

message 15: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Absolutely hated:

The Catcher in the Rye stupid waste of time
Of Mice and Men great until the ending, and then the ending sucked so bad it made me hate it

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Evermore (The Immortals, #1) by Alyson Noel I didn't like this book at all. I'm def not going to continue on with the series. I found the main character to be annoying (I agree with you Angela).

message 17: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 8 comments I did not like The Hollow, sorry to those who liked it. I tried and tried, but I couldn't get into it. I felt like the book just went on and on, about stupid stuff! Get to the point already!!

message 18: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 130 comments I did not like The Road. I did not like the writing style or the cannibalism.

Cara | 44 comments Julie wrote: "I really disliked Forever and Prep: A Novel. "

I couldn't get past the first couple of pages of Prep.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked the road but it is a very sad book, also not a fav to be re-read. But I liked the book. A type of book that it is hard to be in the mood for something that dark.

message 21: by Pandy (new)

Pandy I like The Road very much too. It is a very powerful book, but when I first read it, it did not seem to be as bleak as I've heard. I agree, though, that it's not something I'd reread frequently.

message 22: by Julie (last edited Feb 17, 2010 02:33PM) (new)

Julie S. Cara, I wish I had stopped like you did. Sadly, I read the whole thing in hopes that it would get better.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Prep, is it the writting or the story?

message 24: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) Are you talking about the author Curtis Sittenfield?

message 25: by Julie (new)

Julie S. Yes, Curtis Sittenfield wrote Prep. The story bothered me, but I really disliked the narrator. She was a whiny brat the whole time and learned nothing from her experience. I've heard it compared to The Catcher in the Rye, but The Catcher in the Rye was actually interesting. This wasn't.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I really disliked that book.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Yup, that is the author.

message 27: by Tiamat_the_red (new)

Tiamat_the_red | 13 comments Let's see. I absolutely hated Heart of Darkness (had to read it for school). It moved too slow; everything in the jungle was insane and horrible, yes, we get it; no one seemed to learn anything at all from the experiences; and it was grotesque. Longest 90-someodd pages I have ever had to read.

I cannot read Tolkien. Anything by him. It moves So. SLOWLY. I do not care about your fancy little languages, I do not care that the hills are verdant, not merely green, I Do. Not. Care. Can we PLEASE move this plot along sometime in the next, oh, I don't know, 3 years? Please?

The Eyes of The Dragon by Stephen King was like reading a train wreck. It was awful and draggy and I just didn't give a damn about the main character but I kept reading thinking "It has to get better. He's an insanely popular author, it HAS to get better," but it didn't.

I could say similar things about Angels and Demons. Seriously, I know it's super popular but it's so mediocre. The characters aren't believable (someone that insane would have let on in other ways, damnit) and this one comes across as a screaming accusation against both religion AND science. And don't even get me started on the science.

Moby Dick was another one I just couldn't finish. Let's just say that I now know why "Call me Ishmale" is the most famous line of the book.

Oh, god, I can't STAND him. He wants to be writing the next Indiana Jones, he's just not good enough to do it.

message 30: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) Here is a book that I don't recommend Crime and Punishment. I had the hardest time getting into. A recommended book for college.

message 31: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) lol

message 32: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) Couldn't do Moby Dick - I tried, and failed.

We We the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oats - talk about wanted to get inside a book and slap all the stupid people making stupid decisions. I finished it...but it was awful.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I was given We were the Mulvaneys. It is somewhere on of my shelves. It didn't sound to intriguing.

message 34: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Pfaff (kl_pfaff) The only Joyce Carol Oats that I have ever read was a short story in the 999 anthology and I hated every second of it.

message 35: by Miss (new)

Miss (godblesseveryone) | 6 comments Echo by Francesca is definetly a book I do not recommend because it is confusing some what and it was not that interesting at all. I didn't even finish it.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

I really didn't care for Bone by Fae Myenne Ng . There was a lot of bickering and quit frankly I get that at home between my three boys. It was not an enjoyable read at all.

message 37: by Julie (new)

Julie S. I really disliked Looking for Alaska, which surprised me since I liked other books by this author.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Tithe by Holly Black or Blood and Chocolate by(I forget) I really disliked them.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I recently picked up Tithe from the library. I'll have to see what side I am on for this one.

message 40: by ♥ Rachel♥ (new)

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 86 comments I hate the Twilight series, the characters, the plot (or considerable lack thereof until the end of the books...and Breaking Dawn *shudder*)

Also, I really disliked School's Out. I don't know if I like the plot or not, because I couldn't get far enough into the book for a plot. It's a tiny book, ~ 300 pages, and 200 pages into it, I could tell that a plot was coming up, but I couldn't stand the character's depressed musings and how he rambles on and on about nothing in particular. At first, it just seems like it just starts slow, but weird stuff is going on and there's definitely a reason for it all...then it just moves off topic and becomes really tedious.

No I don't think you are. That is what totally turned me off, the main character. I just didn't like her and it's extremely hard to like a book if you can't root for the protagonist.

message 42: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Yeah, if I can't like the protagonist then I can't like the book. I guess I won't read Prep.

Adrienne (a-town) | 42 comments ♥ Rachel♥ wrote: "I hate the Twilight series, the characters, the plot (or considerable lack thereof until the end of the books...and Breaking Dawn *shudder*)"

Haha, I hated this one too!!!-I hate romance literature anyway, and this just reinforced my disgust with the genre. This book is an insult to the few good romance novels that are out there, like Pride and Prejudice, The Arabian Nights, etc.. I kept hoping Bella would get a brain or that the writing and the grammar mistakes would clean up, but it never happened. I would read sections aloud to my friends and we would crack up laughing for all the wrong reasons. I heard some people say that they would love to have a relationship like Edward and Bella have, and I'm shocked. Who on earth would want to be in a relationship where a controlling obsessive guy stalks you and the girl is even worse. She acts like the worse he treats her, the more he loves her, I mean really? The whole book is filled with completely superficial nonsense, none of which is grounded in real life (not including the vampirical aspect). This is purely incoherent, superficial, non-sensical drivel. This also insults any vampire literature that tries to be relatively serious. I mean REALLY; sparkly, vegetarian vampires. There is something very wrong with the very idea of a vampire glittering. Vampires are supposed to be monsters, they can struggle with the morality of their lifestyle, needing to kill to live, and that makes them interesting. But seriously, vegetarians? Twilight makes me weep for real literature. I find it very sad that kids in my school know all about Twilight but they have never even heard of Don Quixote. The only kudos I give to Twilight is that it helped get young people to read, though I'm saddened that this is their introduction to books.

I agree.

I also agree again on the book getting people to read. I hope and see many people branching out from Twilight. Any kind of reading is better then nothing. As soon as people develop a taste for reading hopefully they will try books with a bit of meat to them.

i didnt even read it, didnt wanna waste my time, it was extemely exaggerated as the best bookes ever, i find the plot boring and could never ever read or watch it:P!!!!!!

message 47: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) Oh how I hated Breaking Dawn, It was a like watching a real bad movie where you cringe because the acting is so bad. No conflict what so ever, no action, no nothing, just a complete waste of a book.Could have been so much better.

I also didnt like Fallen By Lauren Kate and Carrie Jones - Need was just terrible, like having your teeth pulled out.

I also for the life of me could not get into The pillars of the earth, and I really tried.

And anything that Oprah seems to recommend I hate it. Obviously have different reading tastes.

message 48: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) Emma - My friend RAVED about Pillars of the Earth - I couldn't get into it either. I wasn't sure why not, decided I just wasn't up for 13th century that week. I don't know if I'll try again. Have you read any of Ken Follett's other stuff?

message 49: by Andrez (new)

Hey Karli,
I have never tried any of Ken Folletts other books, Pilars of the earth was the first book of his I have read, well try to read anyway. I do love historical fiction so I thtought this would be a great book to read. I also might try and read it again, but If a book doesnt grip me by page 50 I normally give up.
