The Glasswrights' Apprentice (Glasswright, #1) by Mindy Klasky
April's randomly chosen book is The Glasswrights' Apprentice, nominated by Mindy (member Mindy, not author Mindy... although...)

Author Mindy Klasky is joining us for discussion!

If your post contains spoilers, please warn us at the top of the post. Thanks!

Have at it!

Samantha I have this one at home, I've been waiting to read it. I have most of the other books in the series as well, but there was one that I couldn't find...hmmm.
Anyway, I'm psyched that the author will be stopping by! :D

Mindy Klasky And I'm here, and I'm looking forward to participating in the discussion this month!

Mindy Klasky Having survived April Fools Day, I thought I'd drop in here, to see if people have any questions for me! THE GLASSWRIGHTS' APPRENTICE has a close relationship with April Fools Day - my agent sent me email on that day, back in 1999, telling me that I had sold the book (my first ever professional sale!) I couldn't reach him by phone, and I convinced myself that he was the Cruelest Man Ever, teasing me like that, just for an April Fools joke. It was no joke, though, and I was thrilled to see the book in print!

I look forward to hearing from all of you, as the month goes on!

Hi Mindy! Your book was actually nominated by our member, Mindy! :)

She's around here somewhere.

I just ordered the book a few days ago, so I'm hoping to have it read by the end of next week!

Samantha I'm hoping to start soon as well. :D

Kelly RAley (kraley) I just got my copy from the library. I love new books!

Samantha I'm about 2/3 done with this story. I must say Rani has been through a lot. I don't want to get to spoilerish in case this isn't the thread for that.

I just wanted to stop by and discuss the event I've just read. Rani has just done something absolutely reprehensible and it's going to have some big consequences, I can tell. It was very hard to read this scene and I'm not sure what to think....Rani's 13 and she's already been through Hell (and still residing there by the looks of it). She's not the most likable character right now, but I'm trying to be understanding considering what's she's been through.

I hope I'll be able to finish soon, as I want to know where these events are going to take me.

Oh finally! It was almost a fail, too--the mailman delivered my book to the apartment across the way (wrong building #!)

I got my book, am heading to bed to read! Yes!

message 10: by Samantha (new)

Samantha I just finished it. I guess I'll jump in when some others have finished. :)

Kelly RAley (kraley) Did you enjoy it?

message 12: by Samantha (new)

Samantha There were a few things that left me saying, huh? But I'm going to credit it to the youth of the character...maybe things will be different in the sequel. I didn't like Rani, but Hal was an interesting character.
Have you started it?

message 13: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Klasky Samantha -

The longest, most complex discussions I've had with readers have concerned Rani's decisions in APPRENTICE. It was important to me to keep her actions consistent with a thirteen-year-old child -- a child who is being guided by a variety of people with assorted, conflicting agendas. Rani does age in the series, and she does learn from her mistakes.

As for Hal? He definitely grew on me, as I was writing the books :-)

I look forward to hearing from other people who have had a chance to read APPRENTICE, both about the Rani-decision-making issue and other aspects of the book!
