Kelley Anne | 1619 comments The author that we are spotlighting for April is Kim Harrison. Her website is www.kimharrison.net Here's a brief bio from her site:

Kim Harrison, dark urban fantasy author of the New York Times bestselling Black Magic Sanction, was born and raised in the upper Midwest. After gaining her bachelors in the sciences, she moved to South Carolina, where she has remained since. She is currently developing a new young adult series between working on the Hollows books, and is a member of both the Romance Writers of America and The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. When not at her desk, she is most likely to be found chasing down good chocolate, exquisite sushi, or the ultimate dog chew. (For her dog.)

As a way to get to know this author better, we're doing an Author of the Month challenge. The challenge is to read (either for the first time or as a re-read) one book by the author that we are spotlighting each month.

For April, to complete the challenge you need to read one book by Kim Harrison. Of course, if you want to read more than one, that's great too!

In this thread, please post which book you are planning on reading, and then when you are done with it, let us know how it was!

If you have any questions about this, please let Jess or I know! Have fun reading!

Here are the books that Harrison currently has released:

Dead Witch Walking
The Good, the Bad, and the Undead
Every Which Way But Dead
A Fistful of Charms
For a Few Demons More
The Outlaw Demon Wails
White Witch, Black Curse
Black Magic Sanction
Once Dead, Twice Shy

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 237 comments Um, I've read all of her books so I think I will try to read all of her short stories featured in anthologies instead:

Prom Nights from Hell
Holidays Are Hell
Hotter Than Hell
Unbound

I've read the one in Dates From Hell.

message 4: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I've read all her Hollows series, so I think I'll try Once Dead, Twice Shy. I keep meaning to read it, but I just end up not picking it up.

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I read somewhere (can't remember where) that you can get a free ebook of Dead Witch Walking. Anyone know if that's true? I haven't read any of her books so that'd be great for me to get started on the series! Otherwise, I'll probably try out Once Dead, Twice Shy.

message 6: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I got it on my kindle for free Kelley Anne. I don't know how much longer it will be up though :)

message 7: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Thanks! I just downloaded it. I don't have a kindle, but I have no problem with reading a book on my computer, especially if it's free!

I agree! That's why my kindle is filled with free books that I may never read. A free book is a free book :)

message 9: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I am rereading this series so I will go with two books Once Dead, Twice Shy (Madison Avery, #1) by Kim Harrison and The Good, the Bad, and the Undead (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #2) by Kim Harrison

message 10: by Dalene (new)

Dalene I am finishing Dead Witch Walking and so for April's Challenge will read book 2, The Good, the Bad, and the Undead.

message 11: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Yeah so I never got around to reading Once Dead Twice Shy... it just didn't seem to be getting good recommendations.

message 12: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (rotaauthor) | 32 comments Does re-reading count?

Jess | 3721 comments Shelby wrote: "Does re-reading count?"

Yep it does :)

message 14: by Kasia (new)

Kasia You guys know she also writes under the pseudonym: Dawn Cook ? I just found out about it last month.

And did anybody read either: First Truth (Truth, #1) or The Decoy Princess (Princess, #1)? I'm gearing up to trying those out and so I'm curious what you thought of it...

message 15: by Jess (last edited Apr 24, 2010 04:04PM) (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Oh I didn't know that! Let us know how they are.

message 16: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Where did the month go?? I had to return Once Dead Twice Shy, I just could not bring myself to pick it up. Maybe it was the cover? Anyway I am starting The Good, the Bad, and the Undead

Shelby (rotaauthor) | 32 comments Jess wrote: "Shelby wrote: "Does re-reading count?"

Good :)
Okay, so I basically just reread the entire series this month already; I just have to finish Black Magic Sanction.

message 18: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Dawn - I've been asking myself that same question! I have no idea how this month went by so fast. Haven't gotten around to reading any of the books. I downloaded the kindle version of Dead Witch Walking, but I don't know if I'll have a chance to read it before the end of the month, especially with Lover Mine coming out tomorrow!

Shelby - great job! So far I think that you're the only one that's finished! Anyone else finished their book this month?

message 19: by Literary Ames (last edited Apr 26, 2010 03:28PM) (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 237 comments Nope, I've downloaded 3 of the 4 anthologies but I haven't read any of them. I was ill for about a week (couldn't even read *sob*) and I had a major assignment to finish so I've been struggling to read books for challenges and group reads by the end of the month. I don't think I'm going to make it.

message 20: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments @Amy you know I hate when work or school interferes with my pleasure reading.

message 21: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments This seemed to be a bit of a bad month for everyone to get these series read. Congrats Shelby on finishing!
