Andrez (andrez-ssi) I was wondering...what do you all think? personally, I don't like it (with some exceptions, of course) but I know that some people read 4, 5, 6 books at the same time!

How many books do you usually read at the same time?
What's your limit?
Do you like to read a different book on a different place/ time of the day?

Elizabeth☮ very good discussion! i kept thinking of this one and then forgetting to post. which is why i only read one book at a time. my mind can't process several pieces at once. i know people that read multiple books, but i don't start another book until i've finished the one i'm on.

sometimes it gives me incentive to read faster if there's a book waiting - and there's ALWAYS a book waiting.

Andrez (andrez-ssi) lol thats what happens to me
I usually read one book at a time
I seldom read more than 2 books at a time (i cant remember ever doing it)

message 4: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ part of the reason i try to read quickly is i'll forget what's happening and then i don't want to bother with the book.

message 5: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) I surrender to those who can read more than two books at a time. I read two at a time and have one on the side. I agree with Elizabeth it would be hard to keep them all straight.

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) I usually only read one at a time - unless one is just BEGGING me to read it. Then I'll do two. Sometimes I'll have one at work and one at home. It is usually a sign I'm just not that into a book though if I pick up another one.

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 150 comments I often read more than one book.
There's the book for school.
One (or sometimes two) library books.
And the book that I've read a million times and am reading aloud to my siblings.

message 8: by Julie (new)

Julie S. It really depends. I'll have several different books going. Right now, I'm going through a book of short stories by Mark Twain, The Stand, Phases, and Viola in Reel Life.

That may sound odd, but I can organize it all in my head. The Twain book and Viola in Reel Life are both from the public library, The Stand is from the school library, and Phases is my book. Because I got these books from different sources, my brain somehow manages to separate them. The most that I have ever read at the same time would be about 5, since I usually have that mix and then one additional book borrowed from a friend.

Adrienne (a-town) | 42 comments I often carry at least three or four books with me everywhere I go. I almost never leave home without them. The most I've read at one time is probably five as well. I usually have one long-term book, that will keep me reading for a week or two; one short-term book to be read that day; and one in between book that will take around two or three days to finish. I will also sometimes have a book or two for school. I can always keep them seperated, because they are completely different from one another, sometimes I will have to reread some pages to get back into the story though.

You are right - there is also whichever chapter book I'm in the middle of reading to my kids too. I don't think of it in my "count" but I do know where I'm at/what is going on in that one too.

I've also come to the conclusion that I don't finish many books because I have so many started. Then I'll try to finish them all off in a rush then I'll have nothing to read. Or at least started. I have to learn how to limit myself.

message 16: by Angela (new)

Angela B I only read one book at a time I generally get confused if I do two or more at a time

message 17: by The Rainbow Zee (new)

The Rainbow Zee (therainbowzebra) I normally only read one book at a time. And then I found Goodreads and go into the Firstreads giveaways. I was only reading them and none on my to read list. So I had to start reading more than one. But I make it different genres.

I also can throw in short stories or a non-fic book. Plus fanfic online LOL

I'm multitasking way too much in the reading department!

message 18: by Nathalie (new)

Nathalie (natjen29) I read about three books at the same time, my limit is set on four.
Mostly a short story collection
one or two group reads
and one for pure pleasure.

I like to mix and match, otherwise it can be a drag to get through a less upbeat book.

message 19: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 4 comments I have a pile of about 5 on my nightstand right now. But the one I'm reading most of the time is a FirstReads that I won about a month ago that I need to finish and review.

I can read more than one at a time and keep them separate. They are usually different genres and I pick up whichever one suits my mood(or whichever has to go back to the library first).

I also have magazines, newspapers, children's library books I read to my daughter... No dearth of reading material here.
