I'm trying to find a fear for one of my main characters, so if you don't mind, could you tell me some of your worst fears, so I can get a general idea? It's okay if you don't want to.

Veronica (v_a_b) | 2889 comments Mod
Ummm, unrealistic, but everyone around me dies and I'm all alone.

well, there's always the dark but that's a little cliché. um... let's see. what about that thing where a person hears about a disease and they automatically think they have it? let's see... what other fears can people have?... idk. railroad tracks? spiders? murderers? germs? these aren't my own fears, btw, i'm just thinking of some that could be used well in a story :)

claustrophobia maybe?

message 5: by Sella, ov vey! i haven't checked this group in months. >< (new)

Sella Malin | 4530 comments Mod

message 6: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (ophelia17) | 67 comments hypodermics. i hate needles so much. its like my worst fear, coupled with claustrophobia

message 7: by Paul (new)

Paul | 2 comments being blind. Try explaining the story from someone who cannot see what is happening around them. Almost like facing monsters in the dark as a kid.

2. Needles
3. Moving (its hard!!!)
4. DEATH
5. boys (lol. theyre just freaky no offence...........)
6. My siblings/parents dying
7. short books (not really but short books that are good but so totally short annoy me)
Thats my top 7 fears. Im sure i could think of more, but just thinking about those things freaks me out.... maybe i will think of more someother time......

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

oh and and 8. SPIDERS
9. Bees/hornets
10. When my computer busts and i cant email/get on goodreads/ type my latest story/do anything on the computer. That freaks me out!
kay now its top 10

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) Some of my characters have strange fears....namely Selemaphobia (fear of the moon) and fear of mirrors. But they all have good reasons....
I'm deathly afraid of heights. And POISON'S spiders. Don't mind others.
Someone I know hate snakes.

did you know that there is a phobia for the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth?

message 14: by Sella, ov vey! i haven't checked this group in months. >< (new)

Sella Malin | 4530 comments Mod

message 15: by Veronica, What the neck!? (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) | 2889 comments Mod
yeah, I forgot what it's called though...

message 16: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
there's a word for FEAR OF THE GREAT MOLE RAT... lol. there's like a website called phobia.com or something that has all the phobias in the world... some of them are really weird.

ooh, how about fear of being buried alive? that's an interesting one... i think edgar allen poe had that. lol. XD

message 17: by Veronica, What the neck!? (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) | 2889 comments Mod
Being burned alive isn't a realistic fear now...but it would have been during the salem witch trials...and I just got a good idea! somebody's ghost looks back on the days when they were alive, and then they were burned at the stake when they were 19 because they were a witch, and the accusation was actually right, but then she didn't know how to protect herself against fire yet and that is why she died!

or wait, weren't they hanged? but weren't they burned and drowned too?

message 18: by Kenzie (new)

Kenzie | 2838 comments Veronica it's called Arachibutyrophobia. What a mouthful. That came from our agenda.

message 19: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
no not BURNED alive; BURIED alive. !!!

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

theres a name for the fear of turning into a pumpkin.... but i cant remember it

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) There's a fear for fear of long words and it's like a loooong word something like hippoblahblahblahblahblahblahphobia

message 22: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
oh yeah... haha. it's ironic because it IS a long word. so your psychologist would be like, 'hmmm... i think you have hippoblablaphobia' and you'd be like 'AAAAAAAH!!!" lol.

message 23: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellerobins) there's this person i know who is afraid of psychologists, and to get over the fear, all she has to do is go to a psychologist, and by that time, she'll be over it. But she doesn't believe me.

message 24: by Morgan (new)

Lol Kenzie!! Wow, long name.

Edgar Allen Poe had a fear of water, Hydrophobia. Which proved even more that he had rabies!!

message 31: by Sella, ov vey! i haven't checked this group in months. >< (new)

Sella Malin | 4530 comments Mod
OMG Lol Acolocynposus. TEEHEE!!! I love how fear of long words is a long word. XD The thing is, do people actually HAVE these fears, or are they just made up as a possibility?

Oh and isn't it funny how LISP has an S in it. It's torture for people to say "I have a lisp!"

message 32: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
well, i know i wouldn't really want to turn into a pumpkin, but i know that i never will so i don't know if it would exactly be considered a fear of mine...

message 33: by Sella, ov vey! i haven't checked this group in months. >< (new)

Sella Malin | 4530 comments Mod
yeah. I mean, I wonder if there are people who go to their psychologists and say:

Psychologist: So, Mr. Brown, is there anything you are afraid of?
Mr. Brown: T-turning into a...a...p-pumpkin! *screams and starts bawling*
Psychologist: Ah, I see. Why do you fear this?
Mr. Brown: B-because pumpkins h..have crappy lives!! *cries again*

Yeah... a little strange...

message 34: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
pumpkins DO have crappy lives. they spend all that time growing just to be made into a jack o' lantern or a pie. or a carriage... hahaha.

I'm listening.

My friend says she has a phobia of goldfish. NOt the fish, the cracker. Except I don't think it's as phobia, she's just afraid of them going down her shirt.

See, at lunch I had some goldfish...and I was tossing them for her to catch in her mouth. Well, I don't have very good aiming skills. The goldfish liked visiting her under shirt. It happened more than once at lunch.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

shes afraid of them going down her shirt? huh. i dont think that thats a phobia..... lol

message 40: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
no not really... hahaha. that happens to me too, though. food going down my shirt, i mean. but i'm not exactly AFRAID of it

the fear of everything is panaphobia. I remember that from my school's announcements in 7th grade. The announcements last 20 minutes, and most of it is talking about sports and weather and weird facts. and the joke of the day. They actually shortened them a little bit, but instead of getting rid of the joke(which are WORSE than the ones on popsicle sticks and laffy tafy wrappers, I swear) they got rid of announcing birthdays! That was the one part of announcemets that I liked, besides the, you know, actual announcements!(which last between 1 and 4 minutes) Then I stopped caring about even those, and nobody even bothered to try to listen in my third hour. (that's when announcements are. It's weird.)

message 42: by Kenzie (new)

Kenzie | 2838 comments I didn't like announcements, except for getting the free time.

message 43: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
we like never have announcements at my school... we had more in middle school...
OMG, at my middle school we had this dumb thing called like... wow, what was it called? OH YEAH! The Constitution of Caring!!! lol. XD it was the dorkiest thing ever. and they read it during the announcements once a week, to remind us all to be nice to each other!! :p god, that was annoying.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

The Constitution of Caring! OMG Thats so stupid!

message 45: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (ophelia17) | 67 comments at the end-ish of the year, we switched announcements to video. its okay and they can be really funny. but mostly its just real announcements, not like the constitution of caring. but our principal does some weird moral thing on mondays but i never listen XD
we get video announcements with great little skits that demonstrate like "dont steal" "dont bully"
there actually pretty good

message 46: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
haha. that sounds funny. XD

message 47: by Silvia (new)

Silvia (robin10hood) haha, i can still remember some of our school announcememnts and whatnot. we used to do it by video, but then a certain teacher moved and everyone else got lazy and we kinda gave it up....but for those few short years that we did the video, it was amasing. a few times, we had some puppets that would go thru the announcements, and then the usual rivalry between band and orchestra...not to mention a few mockeries stuffed in..of certain bald teachers, or those notorious ones who just need to b mocked...
and of course there's the usual crap that nobody listens to about being nice and all that...
but those were funny too. mostly because i question the sanity of those directing them...
i should try to get those things on youtube sometime...lol, then u could all see how my school was!

message 48: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 5857 comments Mod
