Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments This is the thread where we ask questions, discuss, and make suggestions for the challenge.

Duration: 6 months
Required total number of books: 10

Read two books for each category. Books can either be fiction or non-fiction. Categories are pretty loose, so I encourage you to write a brief statement why you feel the book/s you’ve chosen fits the category.

Religion and/or Spirituality (religious persecution, controversial spiritual movements, wars or conflicts caused by religion, books involving gods, deities or other religious figures, etc)

Politics (books set in the political arena; politicians as characters; biographies of political figures, etc)

Sexuality (m/m or f/f books, ménage, BDSM, strange sexual fetishes, etc)

Other Controversial Topics (This is pretty much an open field: rape, abortion, addiction, racism, child abuse, etc)

Banned Books (There are many lists available online. Please link which list your book/s come from)

You can sign up anytime you like. Be sure to put in your start date and end date.

Here's the link to the sign up and participants thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...

Thanks.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Where are the banned books banned from? Because whenever I can I check my Library system first. Why are they banned I what I am asking I guess. Thanks!

message 15: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Lets see some of them are banned from particular countries, others were banned years ago but now you can find them, the rest am not really sure myself but i think due to subject matter would be banned from the local library.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Oh OK IC, thanks Rossy. I will check the Library, then my swap sites. I don't have any of the banned books but I think the others I can handle.

message 17: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Let me know if you can't find any and i'll do a little asking. I have some friends who seem to have the brains of Goliath with information stored.LOL

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Hehe, Ok Rossy thanks!

Those of you that are reading Forever - say "Hi" to Ralph for me. Read that back in my teenage years and I almost bought a new copy recently.

Ahhh, young love.....(*goes misty eyed*)

message 21: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments LOL! It sounded quite good Charlotte, i placed my order just yesterday. I can't believe i didn't read it when i was a teenager, it would have been so much fun. I wonder if it was still banned from the local library back then?

It's not banned still, is it?

Do rereads count? Because there is one religious book that I want to reread in anticipation of a new addition to the series coming out later this year.

message 24: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments I don't see why not, and Yz didn't specify not to. I say go ahead, particularly if you're planning on reading the follow up that will probably touch on the religious category.

message 25: by Gigi (last edited Apr 11, 2010 09:03AM) (new)

Gigi | 1149 comments Sounds like a fun challenge! I have a suggestion for the sexuality category. Lora Leigh's Men of August series (m/m/m/f, strange sexual fetishes):

Marly's Choice
Sarah's Seduction
Heather's Gift

message 26: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments How could i forget those? I think almost anything by LL can qualify in that category. Particularly her Bound Hearts series. Thanks for the suggestion Gigi!

message 27: by Gigi (new)

Gigi | 1149 comments Anytime! LOL..very true about LL. I still have to read that series (Bound Hearts).

message 28: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments You should try it, they are better than the August series but with more prominent BDSM theme.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments I have both series. I haven't read either. Perhaps I'll read book 1 from each?

message 30: by Rossy (new)

Hmmm, don't know if i would recommend that for you. I say try the Bounds Hearts series and if you like it, then try August one.

I would say Bound Hearts are similar to Shayla Black's series Wicked.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Ohhhh! Ok then =D Thanks Rossy.

message 33: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments a good line of books to check out for the taboo romance is Siren's Menage Amour - they are available though Amazon or on the bookstrand website - mostly feature M/M/F and M/F/M

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I can't believe how many band books exist. I saw dozens of them in the marching section alone! Imagine if I went into the rock section.

Just wondering what is so taboo about band books anyway?

(I know that sarcasm and puns don't always work in print so take this as my tongue in cheek alert.)

message 37: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Had you not written the last line i was actually about to answer.LOL

I'm scratching my brain at some of the books that have been banned over the years. Really there were quite the uptight people in public libraries back then and it seems still today. The whole thing baffles me because you would think the library would be the one place to keep an open mind.

Is there crossing swords involved or are the men strictly hetero?Bc I'm all for LBGT but i don't really want to read about two..or three men playing hide the vienna sausage with each other.

message 40: by Rossy (new)

There are different kinds, LL. Just make sure the one you pick does not contain M/M interaction in the warning at the bottom of the blurb.
I've read a couple of their authors in the past so let me know if one story in particular catches your eyes and i'll see if it has M/M on it.

Thank you very much,oh GR Goddess.I accidently picked up a gay romance once & it scarred me for life & became my fiance's nemesis. You know, because now I wear a chastity butt belt.

message 45: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments *ROFLMAO*

That's why i mentioned the warning from that site. I think you need to try a M/M fluff though to sort of "get back on the horse".LOL

I've read a couple of M/M books and I was a bit disturbed myself. However, the most disturbing 'Hershey Highway' scenes were from M/F books. Lets just say that I don't do 'watersports'. Furthermore, I'll say that fists are for fighting and leave it at that.

But being disturbed by something hasn't stopped me from reading more of it.

message 47: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Ok, even i'm disturbed by those images so i can understand why you would be. Try to stick with female m/m writers, they try to at least make it less disturbing....well as long as it doesn't involve BDSM.

BTW, am i right to assume you read some Sean Michael? *ROFLMAO*

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments No I haven't read any Sean Michael. Both of the above scenes were from hetero BDSM books. I've said before that I'll try most anything once and most things twice to be sure. However, I think I can cross those scenes off my list. I suppose while we are at it, scrotum saline injections are out too. (read about that one in another book with supposedly m/f relationships)

message 49: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments OMFG! I guess you've read worst stories than i have.

message 50: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 822 comments Rossy I wouldn't mind getting back on the horse if it wasn't adorned with butt plugs & astroglide. Its safer on the ground.
