Peep (Pop! Pop!) My goal is to read 150 books this year. I actually hope I can make it to 200!

Can I count audiobooks?

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Yep! It was 100 but now that seems so low. I need it to be just out of reach. Summer will be very hard!

Heidi, yes audiobooks will count!

If audio books count, I can probably finish 2-3 per week, so I guess that is around 100-110???

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

My goal is 50 books this year. No way could I read 100 or more. I'm just not able to read as much as I like.

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Heidi you should aim higher. Make is 125 or so.

Shannen you can do it. How many have you read so far?

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Working on #18 right now. :)

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 148 comments WOW... you guys are all nuts!! I shoot to finish an avg of a book a week and even then that doesn't happen. Shannen, you can I can stick together.

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Shannen 75 would be a great goal. At this rate you will surpass 50 before the end of the year.

Brittany it is the audiobooks that help me- otherwise I can only actually read 1-2 per week.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

My goal will be 52, one for each week. No way am I going to make my goal 75. That means I will have had to read 25 books by the end of this month to be on target for that goal. Summer is coming and that might mean lots of reading for some but that means lots of socializing for me.

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Ok. I checked and I have read/listened to 47 books so far in 2010, so I am sure 110 is possible.

Ha! GR is addictive and cuts way into work and reading time :)

Chachic Heidi, I know!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

You know GR is addicting when you post the same thing twice! Haha! Love ya, Heidi! ;)

message 17: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Hahaha good one, Shannen!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 148 comments So true about the GR addiction. I spend a lot of reading time in here.

message 20: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) You guys!! You're supposed to aim for a number that will be hard to reach, not something you know you can do! That's the point. *shakes fist* You know who you are!

message 21: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Yeah, I know I won't make 200 books by the end of the year. I don't even think I'll make it to 150 this year. It's my goal though. If I drop it, I'll just get lazy! I've only read 51 books, so not much more than you!

message 22: by Chachic (new)

Chachic You guys are fast readers! I know I won't be able to make it to 200 or even just 150.

Ok ok Peep - you guilted me into a new goal. I am going for 150 this year.

message 24: by Ashley (last edited May 20, 2010 08:38AM) (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) My main book goal right now is to get the amount of to-read books I have on my shelf. I have SO MANY of them...probably have enough books to last me a year or two. I've been doing pretty well in not buying any books and just reading the ones I have until a recent splurge. There were a couple of books I just had to have because they were part of the series I'm currently reading. Like "Spirit Bound" and "Burned". And I got "The Red Pyramid" becasue it was by Rick Riordan and I really enjoyed his last series and figured his new series would be really good.

message 25: by Chachic (new)

Chachic That's a pretty nice goal, Ashley! I wish I could do the same. I keep saying that I shouldn't buy more books until I finish reading the ones that I have but I just can't help myself. Goodreads is not helping either because I get a lot of good recommendations from this site.

message 26: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) Its an uncurable addiction...lol There's always gonna be new books coming out, books we haven't read, new authors we come upon, etc.

message 27: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I knooooooow! It will go on and on. But I love talking about books here on Goodreads so I just have to accept the fact that I'll getting good recommendations. :)

message 28: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) I have 2 goals going

one is to get current or say good bye to series, the other is 144 books for the year ( 12 per month)

summer for me means baseball practices and games 4 times a week, and the kids LOVE to swim so that is usually 2-3 hrs per day so I READ a lot in the summer : )

check out http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...#

message 29: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Teresa, what do you mean "to get current or say goodbye to series"? 144 sounds like a lot, good luck with your goal. :)

message 30: by Amelia (new)

Amelia | 38 comments I think I know what Teresa means. I have quite a few series that I've started, but not finished, either because they're not available yet or I just don't have time. Pretty soon, you forget what the first one was about and when you finally get to the second one you have a hard time following it.

That's my problem right now at least, so I'm trying to finish Percy Jackson and Fablehaven SOON, so I don't have to worry about them anymore.

message 31: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I've been hearing a lot about this Fablehaven series. I need to check it out. :)

Me too Ashley.

message 33: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Me too! I just haven't found the first book around. I always see the latter books in the bookstores.

Oh, I've heard a lot about those. I should look for them. :]

message 35: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (chloebooklover) | 33 comments My goal for the summer is 20 books. Right now I'm on page 510 of my 15th book this summer. I will make it!!! For the year im on my like, 30th book, so I think I'll aim for 100.

message 36: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Good luck with your goal, Chloe! When does summer end? End of August?

message 37: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (chloebooklover) | 33 comments Well... I gave myself a two day extension and I completed my goal! I am very proud :) My next goal.... Reach 110 books by January 1st. Since the beginning of last school year, I have read 75 books, so I'm gonna have to try pretty hard to make it!!!!

message 38: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) My main goal in life right now is to get independent. I have pretty much completed that with having a job and paying my own bills now. The only thing left to do is get a driver's license. After that, I don't know what my next goal will be.

I've reached my yearly goal of 150 books ladies and gentlemen.

It's the audiobooks Bluemoon, but thanks! You would be broke if you bought that many books in a year!

shhhhh...That's just between us!"

Holy crap!

message 42: by Amelia (new)

Amelia | 38 comments @Bluemoon... BOUGHT 121 books! Ditto to Heidi's comment. I don't hardly buy books at all anymore because I don't have the space and I work at two libraries. The libraries feed my addiction. :)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Peep wrote: "My goal is to read 150 books this year. I actually hope I can make it to 200!"

In case anyone out there was wondering, I am now at 143 books completed. So, close to my goal, but not anywhere no way would I be able to make it to 200. Unless I read a bunch of skinny books a day. Any suggestions ;)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Audiobooks are what helped me, go get a bunch of kid ones, they are short!

message 45: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Heidi i have a hard time listening to kid audiobooks. I mainly only listen to what's available on Overdrive. The few that I started I never finished because they were, well, boring. Maybe I should look harder? I'll listen to one with the kids, those should only be at most 30 pages long :P

Desperate times and all...

message 46: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I listen to the kid books like The Book of Three (The Chronicles of Prydain, #1) by Lloyd Alexander - nothing that is too young or short. I did re-listen to several Judy Blume books awhile back and they were only like 2 CD's, which was weird! I am used to at least 7 or 8 CD's per book at the minimum. Hey you should listen to the Georgia Nicholson or Agatha Raisin series on audio - they are usually only 4 CD's per book :)

Lloyd Alexander!!! :D I went through a Lloyd Alexander phase back in fourth grade … good times. :)

message 48: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Brigid I have to listen to the rest of the series, but I really liked the first one. Right now I am listening to The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus Trilogy, #1) by Jonathan Stroud , which is another kids book, but it is 11 CD's.

message 49: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Haha I think I only read the first one in that series … but I read some of his other books that I really liked. :)

Ohh I read the first two Bartimaeus books. They were good-ish, I just hated having to read all the "footnotes" although I guess that won't be a problem on audio books XD

message 50: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Nope, no footnotes on the audio (thank goodness :)
