The Complete Idiots Guide to the Ultimate Reading List discussion

The most disturbing scenes in this book are when those who have been taken into Heaven disappear from the face of the earth and those that are "left behind" discover clothing in the positions of the people who last wore them. These "left behind" are the last people on earth, those who have not succeeded in their relationship with God to be immediately removed from the terror that is about to befall the world that remains. This book is a literal interpretation of the Book of Revelation and though not all Christians may believe in the literal aspects of the Second Coming, the stories in this series are intense and dramatic, showing the goodness of mankind and the evil into which we can be tempted.

I've read about half of this series, although I don't know why I bothered. While the premise is good, it is very poorly executed. The characters are dull and the most potentially exciting moments are glossed over or not described at all. On the whole, the books could have been written much better if written by someone else (even me). Very disappointing.

I read most of them but I never completed the series. I left off I think at the battle outside of Jeruselum. I was always thinking..."How could the devil not know he was being conspired against"?

I read most books of the series (never read the prequels), and though I enjoyed the first four or five, I thought it kind of went a bit down the hill from there. But of course, needed to find out what happened to all the characters. The writing's not great but at least you don't have to think too much reading them.. ;)

I am half way through the Left Behind book. I have a hard time dispelling belief to get into it. This is not the theology of the church I attend. I think it is taking Revelation quite literally which I do not. However, I am trying to read it to try something new.

I have felt bad for the people "left behind" so far. We will see how the rest of the book goes.

I read almost all of the books in the LEFT BEHIND series. Bear in mind that this is entertainment not real religion. You won't find any answers here but you will be entertained and amused for quite awhile. You will think about these books after you have read them however it harks back to fundamentalists and if you can't stomach it don't bother. If you are looking for answers ~ CONVERSATIONS WITH GOOD by Neil Donald Walsch is a really good start.

Keep in mind that these are fictional interpretations of Revelation, not divinely inspired prophecy. Still, I found them very compelling.

I read the first three books but then lost interest. I'm not religious so I only read them for their entertainment value and as a work of fiction.

I read these books right before the last book in the series was being released and I couldn't put them down! I really liked them and completely agree with MJ that they were well-researched. I kept an open-mind and viewed them as an interpretation which made them even better. Regardless of a person's stance on religion, I found the ideas amazing and thought it was written tastefully without too many scriptural references. I frequently recommend these to friends that are looking to get a start in some Christian based literature. I stand behind my opinion that these are some of the best Christian based books ever written.
