Elley Murray (elleyotter) Hi! I'm Elley, but I go by Grimalkin or Grim online most of the time... Sometimes I feel like I've read everything there is that I'd want to read, and then I stumble across another gem (or another gem of an author, which unearths a whole treasure trove of printed goodness!) and am off and running again!!

I was (and am) so excited to start this group! I DEVOUR fairy tales, and have a collection of childrens books of different versions (my favorites being the different Cinderella stories from each culture, like Yeh-Shen or the Egyptian Cinderella) and am always looking for new interpretations of fairy tales.

I'm part of a writing group that's writing new interpretations or stories based on themes of various classic fairy tales - because we just can't get enough off fairy tales, we need to write our own!!

Abby~*walking in the rain*~ (wickedlovely) | 14 comments HI im abby !! i love books about faerys and i also love grimms fairy tales .

Sara (mommysj) | 2 comments Hi! I am Sara. But go by SJ and Stambie as well. I love me some books, am going to school to be a librarian and an archivist, I love to read fairy tales, and watch disney movies (which are more often than not fairy tales).

Abby~*walking in the rain*~ (wickedlovely) | 14 comments hi sara !!! i like disney but only classics cuz most of their new movies in my opinion are stupid

message 5: by Elley (new)

Elley Murray (elleyotter) I was pretty pleased with Disney's "The Princess and the Frog." I was so excited to see them go back to not only classic tales, but to the old style of animation as well! They have a new movie coming out sometime based on the Rapunzel story, called "Tangled," but sadly that one will be CG, and not the old-style animated. =(

Abby~*walking in the rain*~ (wickedlovely) | 14 comments ya i agree !!! i liked the princess and the frog it was cute and funny.. i still want to see rapunzel though its a great story !!

message 7: by Bungle (new)

Bungle Boo Reads (bunglemidnightreads) Hey,

It's very had having a second job at an art gallery and doing a Masters when all I want to do is read!

Tia (tianevitt) Hi, my name is Tia. I was thinking about starting a fairy tale group here at GoodReads, but I see that you guys have already done so, so here I am! I love fairy tale retellings so much that I wrote one of my own. I am now reading Elizabeth Bunce's A CURSE AS DARK AS GOLD.

Elley Murray (elleyotter) I'm going to start a "What Are You Reading Now?" thread, and Tia, you hafta tell us about A CURSE AS DARK AS GOLD. =)

message 13: by Kristina (new)

Kristina Wojtaszek | 8 comments Hi, I'm Kristina, though many call me Tina, and I have also recently become obsessed with fairy tales of all kinds and retellings. I am also a writer working on many projects when my little ones are napping or at school! I just finished a short story that is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, in a different cultural setting ;) There is something timeless about fairy tales, and the ways in which they can be reworked into new stories seem endless! Looking forward to sharing books with all of you and learning more about all things fairy tale!

message 16: by Mia (new)

Mia (hotwolfie) | 9 comments hi, everyone! I'm Mia, and I'm a fairy tale addict. I especially love fairy tales with a feminist twist, or some kind of contemporary tweaking. I also tend to read darker fairy tales (gotta love those wicked queens!).

message 17: by Tia (new)

Tia (tianevitt) Sorry I dropped out of sight for so long ... having trouble getting through A CURSE AS DARK AS GOLD, but I'll have to get it back out and give it another try.

message 18: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 48 comments Hi! I'm Danielle. I love fairytales, original stories and retellings. Amazingly, even though I have been on Goodreads since May, I am just now joining a fairytale group. I don't why it has taken me so long?!

message 19: by Michael (new)

Michael Mullin (michaelmullin) Hi. Is this group still active? Hope so!
Mm

message 20: by Marisette (new)

Marisette Burgess Hi, I love fairy tales, myths, and legends. My favorite thing to teach my students is the unit on fairytales. I have them go on a Cinderella web quest, once they finish they earn a ticket to the ball. If you haven't read Sumorella or Cinderlad, (both male versions of the Cinderella tale) you should check them out.

I'm a big fan of twisting legends and myths, that's why I wrote my YA novel, Men of the Cave. If you’re into this check it out:

message 26: by Leah (last edited Sep 03, 2012 01:18PM) (new)

Leah (flying_monkeys) Hi everyone! I'm Leah (pronounced lee-uh), a huge fan of fairy tales, myth and folklore. For the past four-ish years I've been writing my own retelling that may see the light of day, at some point. I'm excited to check out the other discussions in the group as I'm on the hunt for books I haven't read yet.

message 27: by Daisy (new)

Daisy O'whaley | 1 comments Hey everyone!

I'm Daisy :-) My two biggest literary loves are fairy tales and Harry Potter, so I knew as soon as I joined Goodreads I'd have to find a fairytale group!

I prefer stories set in that "fairy tale" sort of realm as opposed to modern adaptations, but I'll read all sorts of them as long as I'm not currently working on a story related to the "original" tale!

Happy reading everyone!

hey Shereen, Leah and Daisy I'm super glad you found this group!! We also love fairy tales... all kinds of them!! i hope not only can everyone here give you suggestions but also that you can give us suggestions as well!!

message 29: by Alisha (new)

Alisha | 10 comments Hi everyone! I'm Alisha.

I'm so excited to be a part of this group! I am constantly on the lookout for reviews on fairy tales (classic and modern adaptations), so this seems to be the perfect place :-)

I just recently finished "Mermaid" by Carolyn Turgeon (a new twist on Andersen's classic) and I really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that there were one-too-many loose ends at the end of the book. Still, it's worth looking into!

Ashley M. (AshleyMSwisher) | 1 comments Hi all! Glad to find this group! I am new to Goodreads, and just finding my way around! I love a good fairy tale retelling! About a year ago, I was on the hunt for a good YA retelling of Peter Pan. Finding nothing, I decided to write one! If you love Peter Pan, (you'll enjoy picking out the light elements!)YA, and a good romance you should check it out!

message 40: by Marjory (new)

Marjory | 8 comments Hi! I just joined. I LOVE Fairy Tales!!! Once, my Mom found the whole Andrew Lang collection (The colour books, Red, Crimson, etc.) at a garage sale. I've read them all :D And Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson, you name it. Although the originals are ALWAYS best, I also like Retellings. Some of my favorites include the ones by Jessica Day George. Oh, and although not a fairy tale, almost anyone who likes them would LOVE Patricia C. Wrede's writing, especially the Enchanted Forest Chronicles (Dealing with Dragons, etc.)

message 41: by Miniwriter12 (new)

Miniwriter12 Hello. I just realized that there are book clubs, so. I JOINED! Yayyy! :) ANyway, I love fairy tales, and teen retellings/different versions of fairy tales, like Cinder, Beastly, Enchanted, etc. If it's a fairy tale, it's good. Nice to meet you all!

Drama | 3 comments Hello everyone my name is Izzabella it's very nice to be in this group! I love reading fairy tales!!! All sorts of them. I mostly like to stick to the Disney classics and remakes of the classics... I know so old school huh? I love the show Once Upon A Time on ABC!!! I'm a crazy, down to earth, funny girl who just enjoys reading so much! I can't get enough books to read. Anybody have anything good they think is worthy of a 5 out of 5 star rateing? If so let me know I'm like so ready for another good book!

message 44: by Allyse (new)

Allyse Near | 2 comments Hello everyone! I'm Allyse, I'm a 23-year-old university student and writer. I love fairytales so much, I wrote one! I've already added it to the bookshelf for this group, I hope that's okay. It's called 'Fairytales for Wilde Girls' and it's a pulpy little slice of YA weird. ^___^

message 45: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) Hi Guys I'm Sammy. Awesome to be in here. I'm a grown up fairy tale lover. In fact I've just published a book that's is part one in what I called a 'fairytail' saga, lol, because it's about mermaids. (But it's for adults so probably not totally my target audience in here, lol.)
I have the a really old edition of Grimms fairtales and it's in a position of prominence on my shelf. I'm a mummy of 3 beautiful princesses named Bella, Lila and Quinn (Quinn's just a bubba who waved for the first time today). I am a karaoke hostess and a singer (I just played Amber in Hairspray as my first show and it was AWESOME even though my character is a horrible person, lol) and I read pretty much anything. I'm excited to check out 'Cinder'.
What else...? Did I say I'm from Australia? North Queensland to be exact, right on the Great Barrier Reef. I just retired as a cheer coach and flyer after 8 years of going hard so I could focus on writing. I love Glee, Buffy, True Blood, Facebook, Surfing, mermaids, READING (lol duh) travelling and I'm obsessed with the U.S and grape soda which we only just started getting here. I've been to the USA twice and want to move there one day. Soon I plan on starting roller derby though I'm working every second of the day on editing my next 2 books so probably won't be for awhile.
Oh, and I'm a Halloween-oholic. In fact, I claim responsibility for making it cool over here (it wasn't) by trick-o-treting and throwing Halloween parties since I was about 6. Now they're HUGE events every year :)
Add me as a friend if you'd like because I'm still fairly new to GR

message 46: by Miss Syreena (new)

Miss Syreena (miss_syreena) Hi! I'm Syreena and I'm a long time lover of fairy tales, mythology, and fables. I joined this group to learn about any new compilations or re-telling books. Some of my recent favs are A Tale Dark & Grimm and The Book of Lost Things.

Shereen Vedam | 50 comments Have to stop and say hi to you, Miss Syreena, because your name is so close to mine. :)

Hi!

This is a group. Lots of neat people around. You'll fit right in.

PS...hi to everyone else too!

message 48: by Laura (new)

Laura Kenyon (laurakenyon) | 2 comments Hi everyone. My name's Laura and it's great to find a group that loves fairy tales with a twist. I also used to be a Disney fanatic. Still am, really, though I agree with Abby that the classics are in a league of their own. I did really like Brave, but perhaps that doesn't count because there are no princesses and I'm biased over the protag's red hair ;)

I'm not reading any revamps at the moment, but I do watch Once Upon a Time, and am releasing my own novel in a few months. It's got Rapunzel, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, the Princess and the Pea, and Snow White - all friends dealing with life after "happily ever." The best way to describe it is Desperate Housewives meets the Brothers Grimm.

message 50: by Ann (new)

Ann (annhunter) | 7 comments I'm Ann and I write twisted fairytales :D

I love Once Upon a Time, Stardust, and Shrek. Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister is one of my favorite fantasy novels, and I like killing off characters as frequently as G.R.R. Martin :D

I'm a stay at home mom to two awesome girls. It's a fantasy novel itself, complete with Prince Charming, two princesses who are either at war with each other or best friends, and a cranky dragon (me).
