Oaky so I really want to continue writting reviews as much as possible (I have so many books that i can write about). I wanted to do two today that are a little different than Hush Hush but shortly after thinking as I'm writting this i realized that one is a tad similar, but just a tad. So we're going to start with Lock and Key. P.S. I decieded to give each book it's own fourm so it wouldn't get to confusing if people comment.

Summery: Lock and Key is about a girl named Ruby. Ruby goes to live with her sister, who has not been on the best terms with her and vice versa, and her new husband after her mom dissapears. Her sister Cora and husband Jamie are living a dream with good jobs, they're rich so Ruby gets sent to private school. It's a big change for Ruby after being almost poor. She meets some interesting people there, especially Nate, the boy who lives next door. It should all be perfect but it's not. There's questions and mysteries in the air about her mother, her relationship with her sister, and Nate who keeps close but at a distance. Ruby goes on a road to discovery about all those things and more, she may find just what she's looking for.

Alright now that the summeries out of the way I can get down to critiquing. I wanted to start by saying that I do like Sarah Dessen's books, I've only read a couple but have more to read, but they tend to be on the....gloomy side. It's not gloomy per say but it's not a happy funny story that will make you burst out laughing either. It reminds me of what I now call the Twilight style. For anyone who's read Twilight you probably know what i'm talking about, it's not exactly a happy sunny book but not a totally depressed book either. Anyway, sorry to go on like that.
So, Lock and Key. This was a good book. Ms. Dessen's plots usually have very good human morals behind them which I think everyone should read once in a while. It starts with Ruby who is a bit messed up. She came from a home where her mother would drink and be with lots of men and occasionally hit her or her sister. Her mother never really seems to care about her daughters in this book and she goes off leaving Ruby alone for a month before someone finds out and then Ruby gets taken to her sister, who she hasn't spoken to in years. It's a big change for Ruby who goes from being virtally poor to having money. She goes to a private school where the kids are, not snobby just....I'm not really sure what word would describe them so we'll go with defined and mature. Nate lives next door, they meet in an interesting way, which I'm not going to tell. Jamie tells Ruby it's either the bus really early in the morning or riding with Nate. She picks Nate, of course who wants to ride the bus? So basically, this is getting a little long, Ruby is messed up and this book goes through her life and how it changes. There are some good characters in the book and the plot isn't bad. It's a good moral book to read and it's one to make you think. I did enjoy reading it, although the begining was hard to read and became one of my put down for a month books until I stumbled on it again and started to read it again. So the begining can get a little long but the info. is key to the book and if you can get through it it won't be as bad as you think, or it seems. I liked the characters and it gave me a view in the eyes of people i don't think i'd ever, or will ever meet in real life. It seems like something that could really happen, as most sarah Dessen books are. All in all it was a really good read, not the best but still a really good read. It was one of those books that if you could get it for about five dollars, i'd buy. Though i bought it for nine. I would give this book a four out of five stars. It wasn't my favorite but it's one that i can see myself reading again and passing down to younger family members when they get older.
