The past few reviews have been a little more of girl books, not that guys can't read them but usually girls are the ones to pick these books up. Anyway i wanted to go with something a little more...well, different. So today i'll be reviewing The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

Summery: The world has been taken over by an unseen force, aliens now inhabit human bodies. The world has only a handful of humans that are still themselves left. Melanie Stryder is one of them until she becomes a host for an alien that is eventually named Wanda. Normally the alien would just take over the host bodies and the humans would disappear within themselves, but not Melanie. She isn't going down without a fight. Melanie and Wanda can sort of talk to each other and Melanie shows her some things that jsut sort of slip out of her memory. The problem is that the invaders are supposed to tell others so they can go find them and have more of their kind come and takeover the "wild" human's bodies, however Wanda is having a difficult time not becoming attached to the humans in Melanie's life. So Wanderer and Melanie set out to find the man that haunts their memories. It's a dangerous road to get there and there will be no turning back, for either of them.

I would like to start by saying that this is totally not an alien book. I used the word alien reluctantly. They aren't green with lightbulb looking heads, they aren't ET's species either. I can't really describe what they are it's like they're a flowy ribbion type thing, but not. Okay so i have no idea how to describe them but the point is this is not some Star Wars alien book. Theses invaders are actually quite anti-violent and want to make Earth a better place than the humans had made it. If you don't like aliens that's okay this book still could be for you. Now Melanie is caught by these aliens/invaders and is taken to be a host. Most humans fade away but Melanie stays inside Wanda (and her own) head. Time goes by and eventually they want to go find the people that Melanie left behind, espcially Jared. Jared is Melanie's love and slowly Wanda starts to feel something for him to. They evetually go off and set out to find both Jared and her little brother, Jamie. I can't say much more since it would give the book away but i will say that they find what they're looking for and an unexpected (surprise/disaster). This was a really good book overall. The characters are great, you have so many different personalities. The plot was also very good. I have to admit i was reluctant to read this when i read science-fiction on the page but it was very enjoyable.
Now for the Twilgiht comparison. This book didn't remind me of Twilight AT ALL, completely different story line and characters. Melanie and Wanda are complete opposites and while Melanie is very strong and independent Wanda is more of a peace and no violence type of person but still independent and strong in her own way. Niether of them reminded me of Bella Swan. So for all the people who disliked Twilight i can assure you that in my opinion this book is different, i can't say it's better or worse (since i did enjoy Twilight though i know it has flaws). In my opinion the only way these books are assosiated is with the author. I'd give this book a four and a half stars out of five, mainly because it takes a while for the book to get interesting, otherwise great book!
By the way this book is really long, a little over 600 pages, and it's taller than your average book. So for those of you who don't like to read, well I encourage you to read it but this book may be more for book lovers and people with patience.

Oh I definatly will! Isn't this our next group read for your group? I will be reading it again for sure if it is. Did you here they're making a movie? Sorry for all the questions you probably feel like your filling out a questionaire. And I am definatly ready!

This is the next book for my group. Also Love is Hell.

I really like how the host and the soul are battling in the mind. I think it is a bit funny. I also think it is hilarious that they both hate the seeker. I kind of picture a Edna Modes from The Incredibles. But more annoying. I'm at the part where she is about to take off to Chicago to talk to her first healer.

The dream about Jared was also interesting. I'm trying to figure out how to picture him in my mind. That will come as I get farther into the book.

I'll have to look out for more word on the movie.

I am currently reading The Host. I didn't read your review, in case of spoilers, but I will definitely provide a link to my review of it after I finish the book :)

That's fine, I was actually wanting to do a buddy read for the host. Is it okay that I like the buddy reads more than group reads? I just like answering the questions and finding out other people's thoughts. It's fun! How far are you? Should we start one? Wait we have a lot more though, but if you want?

It's not wrong for you to like BRs more than G.R.s! I'm only on Chapter 4, and since I'm so close to the front, I wouldn't mind reading it with you. Although I'm supposed to be catching up to Elyssa. But I still think you should start one for your group. I would definitely participate :)

**Carla** I really enjoyed this after...(once I got thru the first couple chapters cause I admit I was a little confused in the beginning) But I really did like it. I read it about a year ago, so i am thinking to possibly re read it here sometime soon tho.

Yeah, the first few chapters were a little drawn out and long but they needed to be there. If you can get through the first few it's a great book. Actually I've been wanting to reread this one too. We have a buddy read up for it now but I haven't been able to read it because of exams. I had my last exam Thurs. so I'm going to be reading it again. If you have the time you should join!

message 11: by **Carla** (new)

**Carla** I saw that there..If I can I will definately join the buddy read but I have three books from the Library i gotta read to I can take them back (bluemoon, shadowland and Graceling) and the I won a book from a give away I got in the mail fri called walking on broken glass and I also got the new twilight novella: the short second life og bree tanner today and I want to read those first before I think about re reading the Host yet.

Those sound like books! There all on my reading list. I'm getting The Second Life of Bree Tanner afer my other preorders come out on the 8th. Hopefully this week! I'm really excited! You'll have to let me know how Blue Moon is and Shadowland. I'm not sure if I'm going to read them yet. And if you want to join the Host buddy read, just do it when you can. I know I haven't been able to yet because I've been busy.

That's what I said! But Twilight is still good, nonetheless.

Very true. LOL! Did you watch the MTV Movie Awards! I was so turned off that they had all the profanity, but loved that something dealing with Twi/New Moon was around every corner. :D

message 17: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniee) Yes! I can't believe they won every award they were nominated for! :) I was happy though. And the profanity was a little over the top.

Very over the top. My mom and dad said that they wouldn't have let us watch it, but we had already seen it. They watched the reruns. But it was so awesome. I can't wait to see Eclipse. I saw their world premiere twice and I've seen the TV commercial twice. It's going to be amazing. And I also loved the HP/DH part 1 world premiere. That's gonna be really good. :)

message 19: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniee) Yeah, my mom was on the computer when I was watching it and she kept complaining about it. And omg I know! We only have, like, 22 days left! Do you know how they're gonna do Breaking Dawn? But I don't watch Harry Potter so idk.

Yeah IKR! Am so ready for BD and I haven't even seen E. Lol; but too bad you don't watch HP. You don't like the books, or just never took the time to watch the movies?

message 21: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniee) Haha me too. I just haven't read or watched any of them except I've seen the first movie. Maybe the second too. They were pretty good.

Oh okay. Well I def suggest the books, and the movies. Lol; they're all really good--in my opinion, of course.

message 23: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniee) Well i'll consider reading and watching them. :)

message 24: by **Carla** (new)

**Carla** I can't wait for eclipse either and I heard the Breaking dawn is going to be broken into two movies!!!anyone else hear that?

I did. I'm unfortunatly still on the Jacob part, almost done but still there after months, so I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

message 26: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniee) Yeah I heard that too, it's most likely going to happen because the book has so much in it. I can't wait for it either !:) I'm seeing Eclipse the day it comes out!
