Do you put non-fictions reads on your shelves? Is there a place for (to name just a few) biographies, history, work related reads or academic text books?

I have always had a shelf for history and other non-fiction along with my fiction. I like that Goodreads has the full range of books.

This question has come about because I've seen in a discussion somewhere (can not remember where though!) that Goodreads shelves were only for fiction. The debate was actually quite heated which ammused me as I always thought everyone just used their shelves as they liked!!

What do you think?

Nita (gillnit) I find that a strange assertion that goodreads is only for fiction books. I have a non-fiction shelf. Plus I have history, anthropology/archaeology, and science shelves. I just re-read through the "about us" section on goodreads, and nowhere does it say anything about goodreads only being a place for fiction readers. I think goodreads is for all types of readers.

I totally agree with you Nita!! Well put.

I was so surprised to hear someone say Goodreads was only for fiction I wanted to ask what others thought. (in an environment where I'd get sensible answers)

I have a history shelf and a general non-fiction shelf. If I was reading about quantum physics I'd put that up too! Oh and I'll have to go check out your non-fiction shelves now as they sound really interesting!!

Kimberley (trillianne) | 24 comments I always beleived that Goodreads was for discussions of books and authors of all genres. I have biographies and text books on my shelves. Secondly if it was only meant for fiction why are the non-fiction books on the site for your to select and discuss if they aren't meant to be here? (sorry for the rambles but I couldn't word it very well)

Gus | 8 comments Weird! I've never heard that before but I'm sure people get into arguments about it (people can argue about anything!)

I personally read nonfiction and have a shelf for it. I like to put all the craft books, cookbooks and memoirs I read on here so I don't order or buy them again! I don't put my textbooks on it though...they are much too boring :)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 141 comments I have several non-fiction shelves, true crime, bios, current events etc... I think it si silly to have only fiction. I read it all so I want to list it all!

Alisa (skippyb0611) | 52 comments I have a non-fiction shelve and I put my biography's, comedy books, based on true stories..all those. I think that if the book comes up in the search when you look it up on Goodreads than the site is not only for ficton. There are so many books out there.. Why would this place, called 'Goodreads' not be for All our goodreads.. Its not like it's called 'Goodfictionreads'. Please

I'm pleased everyone thinks like I do! I could not belive it when I saw people saying ALL non-fiction must be removed from Goodreads as it did not belong!

If it's a book - it belongs on Goodreads I say!
