Angela B I just loved this book! To me it was an idea I haven't read before, it might be out there but I never got to it! I found the conflict between the implanted alien (I can't remember any names and am too lazy to look it up) and the host

Jen (In the Closet With a Bibliophile) (Jen_thebibliophile) | 300 comments The implanted alien(soul) - Wanda short for Wanderer
The Host - Melanie

I've never seen anything quite like it either. It is an interesting thing to see Melanie eventually feel for Wanda and not want her dead, to rather have her stay than to be gone.

Have you read the extra chapter from the paperback version?

message 4: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) I REALLY hated that they called her Wanda - I'd have been happier with Wanderer. I think it's a hideous name.

I felt though, for Wanderer when she got the weak fluffy body after being used to Melanie - it's got to be similar to a healthy, active person after they have been ravaged by an illness, don't you think?

And I really loved the approach to healing - so fine, it seemed magical, but couldn't we use a little magic in our healthcare?

I have a paperback version - what's the extra chapter?

Jen (In the Closet With a Bibliophile) (Jen_thebibliophile) | 300 comments I agree about the name Wanda, I think they should have stuck with Wanderer, but the benefit was that it humanized her a bit.

OH, I TOTALLY FELT THE SAME about the little soft body after Melanie's. I was kinda upset about it. I would have been upset if it were me (but then again I'm not an alien race inhibiting a host and my anger is off the charts *smiles & winks*), I wonder if she felt upset... I guess not, she was prolly just glad she wasn't dead and she could stay with Ian and it all worked out. Still...

Oh, in the paperback that was recently released, there was an extra bonus chapter that wasn't in the original release. It was supposed to be at the very back of the book. It is from Melanie's point of view after Wanderer left.

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) Thanks - I actually got my book out of my daughter's book order (she's in preschool - they target the parents now too!). So, it's a paperback, but it's from last year, so no extra chapter. Guess I have to join the cult of folks sneaking the read in the grocery store. :P

I think she was to bright NOT to feel disappointed by that body. BUT, she could also work with it to make it better, right?

message 7: by Jen (new)

Jen (In the Closet With a Bibliophile) (Jen_thebibliophile) | 300 comments I know, you are right. I have body issues (seriously, I do). I think that particular body will be very beneficial. Everyone who saw it thought it so sweet and innocent, never up to treachery and deceit. She is sure to be a power in her own way. I think she will definitely work with it because Wanderer isn't the type to sit around and do nothing. She is going to do her part, no matter what. That always seemed to be important and I think it definitely is!

I totally stood in the middle of the grocery store for twenty minutes to read that chapter. :D I already own it in hardback and I didn't want to re-buy it. haha, its okay, just some old ladies sizing me up giving me the evil eye. It was totally worth it!

message 8: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) I don't know if it was patronizing - they wanted to make sure that there wasn't a personality left in that body...and they REALLY wanted her back, so I suppose they just found what they could as quickly as possible.

Question - think of the people in your lives - whose personality would live through that invasion, and who would just go away do you think? I know a lot of both, I think.

message 9: by Jen (new)

Jen (In the Closet With a Bibliophile) (Jen_thebibliophile) | 300 comments Except do you remember them saying that they picked that body on purpose? Remember the end when they say that Ian stayed with the chryotank and the other three went to find a body and Jamie says he picked it on purpose because he didn't want people to be mean to her. He said to him that was what she looked like.

Just in my brother/sister fray and parents, I'd say half on one side and half on the other. It's crazy to think about because we are all so similar (as siblings) but some underneath aren't as much of fighters as they appear. :D

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm... The soft body. I think no matter who they would of picked it would of been soft. The all worked together so I really don't see The Hosts using the bodies to do hard labor. Also, they picked a soft, younger body so she could live longer with her new fam. I think it was made to look more extreme because even being a parasite she still have to get used to things instead of just jumping into a new life.

Now, wow, this book was great! Why did no one tell me to read this before!

Ok, wow, again, for Kyle! Went from trying to kill her, to keeping is hands to self but still scowling, to being ok with her, and then saying sorry. THEN, what Kyle, going out with a Parasite! I bout laughed my butt off at the changes for Kyle at the end! It was great!

Jen (In the Closet With a Bibliophile) (Jen_thebibliophile) | 300 comments I know right!! And Elyssa *says with motherly tone* I think we did tell you to read it. :D silly!! You do crack me up!!

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 195 comments Haha, I'm with you on that part Elyssa. Someone should have told us about htis before. I absolutely loved this novel!

I was very shocked at the end when Kyle apologized to Wanda, but I was so glad that he had finally accepted her. Ian was right, that should have shocked Jodi awake. Lol

Kyle had a spasm of great fortunes at the end of The Host. Even though they couldn't save Jodi, he found love in Sunny.

Overall, I loved this book! Can't wait for Th Soul and The Seeker! :DD

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, good thing I decided to listen. I have so weary because all of the open mixed reviews. (Hence why don't like reading synopsis or many reviews.) I'm glad I didn't really listen because all I knew was that their were aliens in the book. With shutting out I really really enjoyed the book.

I would text Z and tell her to find quotes, and watch for page numbers and we would talk about good parts.

Like the part where Mel punched Jared! Ah, still LMAO!
