Lindsay (vabookworm87) If you could recommend one (and only one) book to everyone here, what would it be and why?

Mine would be The Fiddler's Gun by A.S. Peterson. He contacted me a while back asking for a review, and it sounded vaguely interesting (Revolutionary War, pirates, strong independent heroine, etc). Only a few books have ever gripped me the way The Fiddler's Gun did! I was totally blown away by its awesomeness :o) I couldn't put it down! And now I wait in agony for the sequel (o.O)

Kindlelicious | 16 comments The Count of Monte Cristo. I think it's the most underrated 'classic' novel and the movie adaptations are just awful. I LOVED that book and would like everyone else to ignore the movies and read the book! :)

Kyleigh (kyskaggs) | 84 comments Man that is HARD. Well I'm gonna cheat a little bit and recommend the first book in a trilogy. Hahaha. The Way of the Shadows by Brent Weeks is utterly fantastic. It combines dark times, magic, assassins(well wetboys but then I'd have to explain), a bit of romance, epic fight scenes, spying, and an amazingly well developed plot. The whole trilogy is just amazing and is something everyone should read.

Oh and Kindleicious, I liked the movie... Guess that means I'm actually going to have to read it... it's been sitting on my book shelf since I was a kid. Hahaha.

jD (jd_4everbooked) I recommend the Casting Trilogy by Pamela Freeman. I read all three books and found them to be imaginative and adventurous. I also loved The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks. Kyleigh is right, utterly fantasic.

Kyleigh (kyskaggs) | 84 comments *high five to jD* Woot woot! Yay for fellow fan! Every time someone starts talking about assassins I'm just like "Assassins are lame. Wetboys on the other hand are EPIC!" and no one ever knows what I'm talking about. Tisk tisk.

message 6: by jD (new)

jD (jd_4everbooked) I feel you. Have you read Chronicles of the Necromancer? Excellent series too.

message 7: by Kyleigh (new)

Kyleigh (kyskaggs) | 84 comments UH! NO! I want to though!

message 8: by jD (new)

jD (jd_4everbooked) You can save a few dollars by checking it out at the public library. I brought the first two then rented from there. For me its the library or my Kindle. I ran out of space to hoard books.

Kyleigh (kyskaggs) | 84 comments BAhahaha! Ya... I have two 7 foot long book shelves and two stackable corner shelves. I just re-organized my books because I was having to stack them to the ceiling because I literally had no room. I managed to put some into six cubby slots and then de-stacked the rest of my books. I barely have any room to add to! Maybe having over 200 books is a bad thing... nah!

My library sucks, but maybe I'll get lucky...maybe.

message 10: by jD (new)

jD (jd_4everbooked) I pretty much stopped at 200 and started giving them to the library that's when I discovered that they had everything in the catalog I read, for the most part. Dumb luck to find their stash. I will forwarn you, it is nothing like owning the book. I hate taking them back with the words "mine, mine" in my head the whole way.

message 11: by Kyleigh (new)

Kyleigh (kyskaggs) | 84 comments Lolz! I know! That's why I never go to the library! Unless I absolutely have to. I got banned from buying books for a while... don't ask. It was a horrible period of my life that I wish to forget. :P

BookMarc (bookmarcblogpants) As most members are female I will choose the book that introduced me to urban fantasy and still remains my favorite book in that genre, 'Nightlife' by Rob Thurman. I love the interaction between the main characters which is usually dripping in sarcasm and bitchy one liners and the story was different to anything else I had read.

Marc: Kal and Niko's exploits are entertaining. I love the internal dialog Kal had with himself when he lost his virginity. You are right about the snappy dialog. It's good urban fantasy without magic. I starting reading while waiting on Butcher's Dresden Files and Green's Tales from the Nightside.

The Way of Shadows is sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read! I just need to get through the books that were sent to me for review... hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll get through all of them :o)

Kyleigh (kyskaggs) | 84 comments It is FABULOUS! You will LOVE. Just ah. I cannot even begin to convey my utter fan-girlish obsession. XD

*thinking* thinking*

message 18: by Yesenia (new)

Yesenia Hernandez (yeseniagoodreads) | 5 comments This is rough but I would pick Lover Awakened by JR Ward. I love the story between Zsadist and Bella and it gives you enough glimpses of the other Brothers to get you interested.

Athenna | 17 comments ** Yesenia ** As i love all the BDB book that one is mot my fav. but it was good but i think those book should be read in order... but good choice i love the BDB all the books!!

message 20: by Juli (last edited Jun 11, 2010 08:38AM) (new)

Juli (juli_d_revezzo) One book? Oh, that's easy, Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melniboné. That was the first fantasy novel I fell for, and over the years, I haven't found any I'd put above that one on my all-time favorite list, except for Moorcock's other great series opener: The Warhound and the World's Pain. If you like "high" sword and sorcery fantasy (and even if you don't ;)), I recommend them!

message 21: by ~~*Julie (new)

~~*Julie Kawalec-pearson (jewel77) one book and only one?! I have to go with my classic favorite-- The Outsiders. I just love that book and can read it over and over again.

If you want up to date- right now my rec would be Hunger games=- jump on the band wagon and read it!

message 22: by Anna (new)

Anna | 4 comments I'd recommend Halfway to the Grave! For one is one of my favourite books and believe me should you read that one you will just be eager to continue with the reast in the series as well!

message 23: by Alisha (new)

Alisha (schalazeal) | 4 comments I'd have to go with my favorite, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. The Sci-Fi tale is accessible and relevant for a whole range of readers, and the book itself seems timeless. And full of everything you'd want in a book...action, intrigue, and emotion. And aliens!!!!! ^_^
