Not Bill | 1061 comments The delay is my fault...a miscommunication, which has since been cleared up - thanks Char!

I would like very much to offer my apologies to the Axis community for airing publicly what easily could have been, should have been, a private discussion with Charissa regarding her motivations on her post regarding Christian Fundamentalism in the military. I also want to offer my public apology to Charissa specifically. I know better of her motivations and her sincere desire for honest inquiry. Therefore my doubting her I take as a grave personal failing. So, to the Axis community, friends, and Charissa...I am most sorry. At the very least, the incident has provided an opportunity for some overdue introspection.

Thanks NB... I'm very glad you decided to rejoin our community.

Not Bill | 1061 comments Thanks All. And yes, you all would do well to follow Donna's example. I still have my claws, but now they have those cute little plasctic cover thingies on them...makes it look like I just got a pedicure.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Are they purple NB? Fucia? Very nice!!

message 6: by Not Bill (new)

Not Bill | 1061 comments I'm in to earth tones, don't you know. Burnt Sienna - goes so well with my pelt. Don't ya love it!

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Red black blue green yellow brown purple orange grey… these are the only colors to men, NB. I have no idea what Burnt Sienna is, and neither should you. Repent!

As a man there is no “Swan wing white”, no “Sandal wood”, no “shaded porch”, no “sea foam”. I mean shit man until a few years ago we communicated in a series of grunts and now you’re talking burnt Sienna. Shameful!

:: Lifts chin slightly::

I have no opinion on such things Charly.
Red black blue green yellow brown purple orange grey are the only colors I can comment on. What is this brown orange you speak of?

message 9: by Not Bill (new)

Not Bill | 1061 comments That's a good description of Burnt Sienna - brownish orangish. Put it this way, it makes for some awesome summer /fall camo when I'm out playing paintball, heh heh. Seriously, one of the camos I have is a somewhat faded waffen ss (actually, Austrian losenge) fall pattern that now has that brownish orangish thing going. It's the best damn camo ever for nor cal in fall.

There...now you can feel better about burnt sienna!

I had that same pack Charly - with the built in crayon sharpener. Classic.

message 10: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) Amen Nick – as men we should not recognize the existence of anything beyond secondary colors (I think I’ve mentioned this before on GR). It’s the principle of the thing. If someone says “Hey Rusty, watch out, you’re about to be hit by that sandalwood car”, I will ignore them completely and continue in the same route of travel. Because I would rather be struck be a vehicle than acknowledge “sandalwood” as a color. Can I get a “hell yeah?”

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Hell Yeah! Rusty.

NB I am floored… I don’t know what to say, not only are you talking in code but you are talking in code about camo. This is blasphemy! I demand you take it back now.

I know things I know Burnt Sienna is orange-brown. So I will call it orange brown. I refuse to speak in hormones.

Nick and Rusty, I partially agree with you. The names for the colors of clothes in catalogs these days can be ridiculous. Loden. Moss. Sea foam. Saffron. I get a vocabulary lesson just picking out a shirt!

I'm fine with you choosing not to use the words for these colors yourselves. I personally have trouble swearing. I get it.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't know what these words MEAN, and avoid the sandalwood-colored car barreling toward you. That's just dumb.

hormones.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
Nick, that remark is unforgivable. Take it back, or suffer my ire forever.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Oh I was just ruffling her feathers. I seem to have this awesome knack for getting under Donna skin effortlessly. I realize this with both pride and shame. Sorry Donna.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
You just got under mine, right now.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Sorry Jackie. I still don't want to acknowledge Burnt Sienna. However, I just stumbled onto a paradox. Olive Drab. Military green to most. So possibly color names are acceptable if there is a reason for it. Still no sandalwood, shaded porch, sea foam, heathers twill, or any other such hootenanny.

message 19: by Not Bill (new)

Not Bill | 1061 comments Donna, the boys may have a point. Tonight I'll do my penance by watching at least 3 straight ours of WildBoyz. Yeah dude!

Thanks, Nick. I have no clue myself what color "shaded porch" is. That's just marketing nonsense.
So you won't crash your car, right?

Whew, glad that's cleared up. I will think about the aqua-colored seas, and lots of tertiary-colored coral reef fish around Hawaii to calm down...
Like this fellow, a Picasso Triggerfish, who has stripes of neon aqua, saffron, and possibly even burnt sienna, as well as gray, brown, and black:

Hmmm maybe I will paint my house goose turn green :D

Is goose turd green lighter or darker than olive drab?

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Wild boyz, heartbreak ridge, saving Private Ryan, and the full Band of brother’s series. Complete this and all is forgiving NB.

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
I've seen Band of Brothers 5 times in total, beginning to end. Tonight I'm going to start watching "Baseball" by Ken Burns on DVD. Saving Private Ryan is one of my favorite films... except for the stupid sappy part at the end (goddamn you Speilberg). On New Years Eve I celebrated by watching 'Stalingrad'... the entire thing.

I also know what Burnt Sienna is...

Nick.... FYI... you have hormones. Uhm, like, duh.

message 25: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony isn't sienna the brown associated with old photographs?

message 27: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony sepia! Thanks, J.

message 28: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) Nick, you should probably throw "Enemy at the Gates" in there just for good measure. And any guy who hasn't seen that movie - for shame. It's a sniper movie set in WW II.

There's nothing wrong with gender roles. They do exist, because the sexes are not the same. Ying/Yang baby.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Yes I have hormones too Charissa, But they know their place and stay buried under years of repressed emotional trauma.

message 30: by Jackie "the Librarian", Cool Star Trek Nerd (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
Yin/Yang, Rusty. And while there are gender differences, they aren't an excuse for stupidity.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Enemy at the gates. You know I was totally into that movie until the sex in squalor scene. Just thinking about the filth and grim of living without bathing for months at a time, then to go and do that... you are just asking for an infection. But She was pretty hot, and it was a great movie. Add it to your pennants NB.

message 32: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell Oh yeah Rachel Weisz...Even all grimy, she's still hot.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
I suppose there is a good chance that I might be an idiot savant... perhaps.

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
Nick, I doubt very much when you are losing your temper at a co-worker that your testosterone is being buried under years of repressed emotional trauma.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
When I have fits of rage my hormones know exactly where they need to be. The fight response is rearing to go and it takes ever ounce of me self to hold back the tide.

I think I have a better control of it today then I did last year and the year before. I just try and remind myself that a cool hand steers the boat better then a jittery excited hand.

I don’t think this thread is about my rage disorder, or my psychopathic tendencies. It is about NB doing penance, and waving the boy pennants ;)

well... I'm always all for NB doing penance. especially if there is kneeling involved. ; )

Rusty (rustyshackleford) Yin/Yang. Thanks, Jackie. Heaven help me, I'm just not that bright.

So...WildBoyz is in the tank, check that off. I own Private Ryan, and have seen Band 0' Bros at least 3 times through. I think it's time to bust out Stalingrad (good choice Char) The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, That's a good plan for the day. Then tomorrow night it's MXC and Manswers! By the weekend I'll be swingin the biggest brass sack on the block.

Miss Dakini, your naughty is showin' again lol!

You're welcome, Rusty.
I'm so glad I'm not a guy. I love my tertiary colors, and I didn't like Saving Private Ryan.

I do like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, which sounds like a description of some of our discussions on Axis Mundi, some days. :D

Don't worry NB, I have it from a good source that Charissa keeps plenty of lube in her fanny pack. Thats what RA tells me anyway.

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
what did you say I have up my fanny? ahem.... I beg your pardon. Naughty boys.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Fanny... pack. Fanny pack Charissa. And I haven't the slightest idea what you carry around in your fanny. However, if you truly do carry things around in your fanny that may be the cause of your back ache, and not the 1500 miles in a car. I'd suggest getting a purse... you know, just saying. ;)
