My book group just read it for the beginning of the year's discussion. It got good, but mixed reviews. No one didn't like it. Some just liked it more than others.

From the attention grabbing opening paragraph until the last page, Chaon crafted a mesmerizing tale. The book alternated stories between several characters who were searching for their identity or reinventing themselves. Their stories twisted and turned, then eventually intertwined. Lots of disappearing acts and slights of hands, which I found apropos to the history of the characters, Miles and Hayden, whose father was a hypnotist/magician.
The story was a thrilling ride that kept me engrossed. If you've ever contemplated what it would be like to walk away from your old life, sever ties, and reinvent yourself, then this is the book for you. I know I've questioned what it would be like to slip into someone else's skin. I think I prefer living vicariously through the lives of others in the pages of books and keeping my own identity.
