The Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts is the first novel in the series 'War of Light & Shadow'. Post here if you plan to read this novel, are reading or have already read.

This novel has been previously read and discussed in the main forum of the Fantasy Book Club so if you wish to view that folder here is the link: discussion > 06-7/09: Curse of the Mistwraith
You can start new threads to continue the discussion in this group. If your post relates to the previous discussion in the older thread, please state that in your post.

Please take care not to spoil events in subsequent volumes when posting to threads for this book.
If you are not sure whether the plot point you wish to discuss is in this book, please check in the summary timeline before you post in the spoiler section: Curse of the Mistwraith - Timeline

Charles (charliewhip) | 19 comments Rereading Mistwraith and Ships (4th read) leading up to the Ships discussion in July. Then on to the rest of the series (3rd read) preparatory to the release of Initiate's Trial.

Also reading Anathem by Neal Stephenson, a stand-alone fantasy.

Also just reviewed Hells' Chasm (see FBC and Beyond Reality sites)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 111 comments I read it last year with the FBC...

Jon (jonmoss) Read this last year with FBC as well.

Jeff Watson | 46 comments I've read this a couple of times but it's been a few years since the last time.

Kathy | 9 comments I have it but have not yet read it. This gives me a good excuse to finally pluck it off my shelf since I missed the FBC read last year.

Amelia (narknon) | 523 comments I'm reading this right now. I was reading it so I would be ready to discuss Ships of Merrior in the FBC, but it works for this group too.

Tracy Dobbs | 5 comments I read it last year, but that was the fifth(?) time I had read it. I have read the series up to either Peril's Gate or Traitor's Knot. Now I finally have a chance to read further.

Sarah (bookwormblues) I started Curse of the Mistwraith a few days ago. Holy crap, it's like word candy. I can't put it down.

message 10: by Jim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I've read it. I should be starting Warhost soon.

message 11: by Matt (new) - added it

Matt I'll hopefully be getting to Curse soon. I've ordered it should be in my hands shortly. Although I may be finishing Daniel Abraham's Long Price Quartet first.

As a side note for anyone that's interested, it looks like all of the books for the War of Light and Shadow are part of the 4-for-3 promotion at Amazon.

I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I couldn't put it down 'til I finished all 8 books!

I noticed that, Matt. And it just so happens, I need exactly four of them to complete the set.

Robin (robinsullivan) | 10 comments Moving this to the very top of my reading list

Jeanne (jeannekc) I've just ordered all the books from Powell's and will begin once they arrive.

Sandra (sleo) | 1059 comments That's terrific! So glad all of you are going to join in. I am absolutely passionate about this series. You're all in for a treat.

message 17: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann (leslieann) | 27 comments I read this book last year when it was the Monthly read for the FBC. The discussion there was lively and insightful.

Yes, there's a link to it above.

Melissa (mjkirkland) I've just finished this book. Very densely written, and I'm going to continue the series.

Janny (jannywurts) | 414 comments We are just getting started here - stay tuned, there are some surprises in store, To Be Announced, shortly.

I welcome everyone in - and am pleased (a bow to Leslie and Michael) to have a few writers in the mix to add to the fun and lend perspective.

Be perfectly free, if you are just finished (or in the midst of) Curse of the Mistwraith to pop into the discussion linked to The Fantasy Book Club's page.

There are threads that cover spoilers to the half point, and various discussions, ongoing. New threads can be added, here, too - let the group know of your interest in that regard.

The Ships of Merior discussion will kick off in July - officially - but I am available to the group for the first volume.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions of any sort. I am available to the group - and being a speedy typist makes the response on my part a pleasure.

Mawgojzeta Planning to read very soon (once I acquire a copy).

Clansman Lochaber Axeman | 7 comments Have read CotM four times. About to start again, for a full read of the series by November.

Jeanne (jeannekc) Just started last night, I'm on page 22 and all I can say is WOW! I usually give a book 100 pages to decide if it's worth bothering with and I have to say I knew this one was in 5 pages! Janny throws you right into the fray and doesn't let up.

;) - Jeanne, this book does indeed start carefully and build...grin. If it has you now, DO block time when you get to the last chapter sets. People have reported missing train/bus stops, burning dinner, kicking over work schedules, and staying up too late. Just warning ya...

Oh, honey! I couldn't put them down until I read all 8! And I see I'm repeating myself. ::blush::

Jeanne (jeannekc) Oh dear! Thanks for the warnings! Sounds like I'm going to have a few sleepless nights since I routinely read in bed before sleeping.

Jon (jonmoss) I'm re-awakening this thread to let any new potential readers know that the ebook edition of Curse of the Mistwraith is on sale for just 99 cents right now.

Here's a link to a blog post that will get you to the Amazon Kindle ebook.

Here's one for Barnes & Noble Nooks.

Janny (jannywurts) | 414 comments The e book sale is unilateral - there are also listings at Kobo, BooksonBoard, and Google Play.
