SOS: Serious Overload of Series discussion

I gotta thank Yz for introducing me to her "Psy-Changeling" series! I love this series! With each book I finish I say, "Wow, that was better than the last". There are some scattered throughout that I liked more than the others, but overall a recent, now favorite, series of mine.

She's the author of many, many books. Before reading her "Psy-Changeling" series, I fell in love with her "Guild Hunter" series. Both are must-reads for me. I can't wait to read Hawke's story (Psy-Changelings) and Archangel's Consort in 2011!

Thanks for this. Nalini's my newest favourite author. Angels' Blood was my first taste of her work and I was blown away, I gave it 5 stars.

I'm up to date on the Guild Hunters but so far I've missed out 2 shorts in the Psy/Changling series. I've only read up to Mine to Possess so far. I'm reading one a month, savouring them while they last. :)

Welcome! Yeah, I started out with her "Guild Hunters" series as well. I love how different both series are from the other. Sometimes I forget they are written by the same author.

And, they do need savouring! MMmmmmm! I just finished Branded by Fire #8 and LOVED it! Two changelings v. changeling/Psy paring. Very nice! ;)

Nalini Singh is responsible for my serious addiction to paranormal romances. I started out with "Slave to Sensation" and that was it. Funny enough it looks like I only enjoy every second book in the series.
My favourite is "Caressed by Ice" but I'm so looking forward to "Bonds of Justice" and of course - I can't wait for Hawk's story.

I know! I hate having to wait for Hawke's story. But, considering how old his possible/probable mate is it's understandable that she'd wait a while for it.

Do you think his mate is going to be who I so fervently hope is going to be? Even if Sienna's young, Hawke isn't going to get any younger!

Yeah, I think that's where it's headin'. No he's not, but in changeling life age is relative, I guess. Except when it comes to the "young" in their pack(s), I would imagine. I'm guessing that they just feel like until she's "of age" (whatever age that is in their world), he'd be a pedowolf (hehe) if he made a move "too soon". Dunno. We'll see how it all plays out over the next few books working up to his. Can't wait to see though.

Unfortunately I often get problems even with preordered books - Amazon often makes me sweat it out until a few weeks after publishing date. Still - anything is better than the German versions of the books.

I lovelovelovelove her books! Psy-changelings were one of the series that really hooked me on PNR (K Cole's A Hunger Like No Other & LKH's early Anita Blake were the others....) LOL...I've ordered everything of hers (into next year!) and love her updates/fan contact & kindness too!

Karin, have you tried BookDepository as an alternative to Amazon? LOVE them! They will accept €, USD, CAD, AUD, and I believe £. They also ship direct to your local addr. I live in Okinawa, Japan and have an FPO, but it takes ions to get books that way and/or shippers don't deliver to FPO. BD is my saving grace. I even got my pre-order 2 days earlier than US release and that was after it spent 7 days in the mail.

And they don't charge for postage. Which makes them waaaay cheaper for me than Amazon.

I would like to ask you - how did you feel about the "new" series? For my part I had a strange feeling reading about archangels. See, when I grew up, angels were something - neither a male nor a female - who guarded little children. It took me some time to get used to archangels that look sexy (though I do appreciate it!).
I also thought "Angel's Blood" was a really dark book. I liked "Archangel's Kiss" quite a lot better - perhaps I was more accustomed to this world.
Did anyone have similar concerns or did you just love the series from the start?

I loved both books, and right from the start. NS is an auto buy for me and I'm never disappointed.

As for angels/archangels, even being catholic, it never bothered me.

I'm not a religious person, so I didn't have any of those issues reading that series of hers. I loved it from the start. I also tend to love dark horror/UF books very much. I'm a gory horror girl at heart. Her angels are most definitely different though, as they create vampires. :)

I read a review of "Bonds of Justice". The person who won the ARC contest, gave a nice summary of the book without any major spoilers. It definitely made my mouth water, the only letdown - the wolves are very much absent, though the cats seem to be there.
By the way: what do the letters ARC really mean? - The best I could figure out was "advanced reading copy"?

I'll have to check it out, Karin. I love the cats, but my growing interest in Hawke's situation makes me kinda bummed that the wolves are somewhat absent in the next one.

Yeah, I believe that's exactly what it means.

I won one a while back and never wrote a review (b/c I didn't like the book and felt bad ... LOL) and I think that hurts my chances of ever winning again. Although the books I've seen I'd like to enter for a chance to win have not been open outside US and my FRICKIN' FPO zip code gets rejected by GR stating "invalid zip code", which -HELLO, I get mail!- is NOT invalid. Ugh. Just ignore me, I'm rambling off topic.

I read on Amazon that B&N has "Bonds of Justice" already out. Anyone heard anything similar?

They actually didn't discuss the book, they were talking about electronic reading devices for the rest of the thread. So I'm not really sure about it. Perhaps it's just a rumour?!

Unless they somehow received an advance copy through Amazon for review, the ereader link is not available until the 6th. I checked and it tells me that it'll not be released until the 5th after midnight.

Book Depository has already posted my copy of Bonds of Justice. Still in the mail though.

I just checked an Amazon thread - B+N (I guess this is Barnes and Nobles) did send Bonds of Justice as early as July 2nd.
I now even know who Indigo's hero is going to be - but I'm not telling (unless someone wants to know?).

Yes, the paperback was released early, some even at the end of last month. I'm waiting for midnight so that i can download my ebook copy!

I enjoyed the book a lot. I felt it reminded me of "Slave to Sensation" - somehow:)
I know Max is human, but Sophie was kind of in the same situation as Sascha had been.
I also enjoyed the twists and turns with the council. I really want to know what Nalini Singh has in mind with Kaleb.

You know Karin, i have to agree with you. The way Max handled Sophie, reminded me of how Luke dealt with Sascha.

The thing is: there is a short story coming in August which I think will make me yet again buy an anthology (which I really am not so happy about, as I usually only like the anthologies because of the one story I want to read). Then in November it's Indigo's story and then it's going to be a long dry spell until !!! Hawke!!!
In the meantime there will be another Archangel's story but still - I love "Bonds of Justice" - so the question is - what am I going to do from November till next summer? Life is sometimes really hard!

I loved Bonds of Justice! Kaleb needs a book! He's an enigma I'm desperate to figure out! I read the series this year and finished just in time for BoJ. Blaze of Memory is one of my favourites. I love the politics in these books, it just gets more and more interesting.

My copy is finally on the way, and it's coming with the short story in Burning Up! That is, the two books are coming at the same time! Not having to wait a few more weeks for that makes me very happy!!

I'm really interested too in what will develop in the world around them...looking forward to more on that scene!(And on the micro-scene, want to know about Lucas and Sascha's baby...)

I really loved this book. I agree there were some similarities to Sascha and Lucas' romance, but not so much that it seemed like a repeat. They were also very much their own characters and very satisfactorily developed. I loved seeing more of my fave DR characters, and the political scene developments make me really excited to continue reading this series!!

Today I'm going to enjoy Whisper of Sin in the anthology Burning Up ...then have to wait until November...sigh.

I'm so close to be "allowed" to read it (who chose that stupid reading order for my relay anyway?! LOL) ... still have one little book to finish, then BoJ! :D

Yes they are...but perfect for a read when busy with "have to's"...can knock one off in a couple of breaks, without "creating" more breaks to read a novel rather than do actual work....

? I feel like an idiot b/c I don't understand what you're saying. LOL I think "the group that shall not be named" has fried my brain circuits.

Oh..I didn't put it very well. Short stories are...well, short. So they can be easily read in a short break or two between tasks. Novels don't fit into one or two breaks...and I end up taking more breaks when I should just finish the D*** task, then read my book.
