Sukhi (svgoomer) So ladies, and our few gents, how many groups have you joined? And how many are you actively participating in? Inquiring minds want to know!

message 2: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Four total including this group :)

message 3: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I'm currently in 7 groups. I have belonged to others and then dropped them. I am most active in our Cozy Mystery group but drop into the others occasionally.

message 4: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (last edited Jun 09, 2010 11:56AM) (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27490 comments Mod
Nine total joined, but dropped two, and am most active in this one and TNBBC.

message 5: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Right now I belong to 5 different groups. I've belonged to others and left for one reason or another. I'm probably most active on this board and my Mystery/Thriller group which is what brought me to GR in the first place. A bunch of us were on an AOL board for years and transferred over here last year after AOL started screwing with their boards. The other 3 groups I belong to are all UF boards of one type or another.

message 6: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4145 comments Mod
Three, including this, and I'm active only at this. Not a lot of time, I'm afraid.

message 7: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 93 comments I belong to 10 groups but am active on only 7 of them. The other groups don't seem to have much activity.

message 8: by Tammy (new)

Tammy I am a member of 3 groups which include this one and a romance group. I use to work for a local community college and they formed a group so I am a member there also, but there hasn't been any activity there in several months. I am most active here and I really enjoy this group the most.

message 9: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (whatkreads) I've joined 3 groups. This one definitely has the most daily activity. I'm also part of the 144 books in 2010 and the Q&A with Susan Wittig Albert, but it hasn't had any activity since Oct. 2008.

message 10: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments I guess I haven't been on GR that long so this is the only group I'm in. I read other books besides Cozy mysteries but that is the type of book I read most. I guess I should check out what all is out there, eh?

message 11: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27490 comments Mod
Caroline (and anyone else): If you like to read a variety of books, check out The Next Best Book Club (TNBBC). They have at least two monthly group reads, usually a classic and soemthing else, which members nominate and vote on end of each month. There are actually three reads this month, as there was a tie in the classics poll that could not be broken: The Red Tent, Pride and Prejudice and The Count Of Monte Cristo. I just read P&P in May, but might give Count a try, depending on how the rest of this month's reading selections go.

Denise | 618 comments Heather L wrote: "Nine total joined, but dropped two, and am most active in this one and TNBBC."

Just curious Heather, how did you get the group name to show up as a link?

message 13: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (last edited Jun 13, 2010 05:40PM) (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27490 comments Mod
Denise: I used html. Here's the code you use:

group name

Insert the web address in between the quotation marks where it says "url", then where I have "group name" above you enter whatever the name of the website or book/movie/article title or whatever it is you want to link to. It's about the only html I know. Comes in very handy! :)

message 14: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments I belong to 4 groups. But I'm most active in this group and the Mystery group Melodie was talking about. I belong to a Harry Potter group, but I think I've only looked at it once ;(

message 15: by Sherrie (new)

Sherrie (vampirekisses2) | 426 comments I belong to 3 groups but mostly active in this group. The other I get involved in is a romance group with lots of reading challenges.

message 16: by Sukhi (new)

Sukhi (svgoomer) Very cool. I'm thinking about joining The Next Best Book Club. I'm very active in this group (surprise, surprise). But I don't read cozy mysteries exclusively, and am using GoodReads to help expand my reading horizons. For the past little while, I feel as though I've gotten stuck in a rut.

message 17: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27490 comments Mod
GoodRead definitely expands your horizons. I've read several books since joining I wouldn't have otherwise considered, such as Shutter Island, The Botticelli Secret, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire (and can't wait for August when Mockingjay is finally out).

It looks like we will be nominating books for July group reads pretty soon in TNBBC. Lori was just taking suggestions for a July theme. There is usually one general fiction/nonfiction selection, and some sort of theme - which looks to be books under 200 pages for July. Apparently people wanted something "short" after this month's selections. Can't say I blame them, LOL! She'll take nominations for a week, and then we get to vote.

message 18: by Susan (new)

Susan (sumagoo) | 131 comments I joined 6 groups but really just stay active in this group.

message 19: by Sukhi (new)

Sukhi (svgoomer) Yes, I've noticed that about GoodReads. Already I've picked up some recommendations that I've found in the groups I've joined, and it's got to be said, it is wonderful to find support for reading online. It's great motivation to see other people struggle through reading the same books you're struggling to get through, and also to see strategies on how to get through impossibly long books.

message 20: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lmmmml) | 71 comments I belong to 3 groups, even a moderator in one(lol). This one is by far the most active of the three.

message 21: by Sukhi (new)

Sukhi (svgoomer) Awesome Lisa. Which group are you moderating?

message 22: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lmmmml) | 71 comments It is called Should have read classics. For those books that you never read and most people are shocked when you say that you have not read them.

message 23: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 110 comments I'm in 16 but I'd like to delete one if I can figure out how. I joined it to ask a question for my daughter and she doesn't want to join.

message 24: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27490 comments Mod
Mary: On the group main page, in the right-hand navigation bar, look for "You are a member of this group (edit membership)." Click on edit membership and you'll find another button to unsub.

message 25: by Carol (new)

Carol I belong to 2, but it sure takes a lot of time just trying to keep up!

message 26: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphne2163) I belong to 6 groups. Three I participate in (this one, Book Addicts & 50 Books a Year Challenge) and three I am a total lurker.

message 27: by Rusty (new)

Rusty Five including this group but I dropped one because I didn't like the book choices.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I belong to four groups including this one. One I just joined today. Another is more or less a "list" very little interaction. This on is my favorite.

message 29: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments I belong to three including this one.

message 30: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I have joined a few more, I now belong to twelve.

message 31: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Douglas (teachgiftedkids) | 199 comments I belong to five groups and am getting more and more active as the summer wans onward. I just retired from 30 years of teaching, so my time is not going to be an issue any more! I get a lot of my reading ideas from these groups. Such nice people!!!

message 32: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments I'm with Dru. Too much to do, too little time. Life is short, eat dessert first - I'm only on this one group. : )

message 33: by ♥Jenny♥ (new)

♥Jenny♥ | 7 comments I'm currently members of 5 groups including this one. But I've gone through many groups, but all of the others have gone dormant. Like, the last comments were from last year dormant.

message 34: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments I am only in two groups. I once had more but found that I couldn't devote as much time to all of them, I was in four total. Have to winnow it down. And my interests vary as well.

message 35: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 58284 comments I am in seven groups. I play the games on this site, but am most active in reading and participating in History book club. They have lots of choices, free giveaways and loads of discussions.

message 36: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) I belong to 12 groups. I'm active in 8 of them but like to follow the posts in the others. I used to belong to more (!) but realized it was completely insane so I pruned my list. It's hard when I get invited to new groups by friends, especially when the name looks interesting.

message 37: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 5308 comments I belong to 12 groups and now Emily mentioned about the History Book club. I love The Scandi book clubs,
Book Haven, Mysteries and Thrillers,Agatha Christie. The Quilting and Gardening groups, Cozy Mysteries, I am totally addicted to word and sentence games and adore the author blogs. I also love the book challenges. Do I spend too much time on the computer!!!!

message 38: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments I belong to 8 groups and currently participate in 6 of the 8. I am most active in this group. TNBBC comes in 2nd. Considering dropping the 2 that I just lurk.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I keep my group involvement to 3 - this one, the GR Feedback Group, and the Librarians group. Otherwise I wouldn't have any time to read. :)

message 40: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Douglas (teachgiftedkids) | 199 comments I'm active in three groups: The Children's picture book group, the Newbery book group, and the Cozy Mystery group.

You're really busy now only with librarian group ;) (it's the group I read more these last days).

O boy am I! lol. Although I've rescued all my books now - I kind of got into the groove of doing it over the weekend and just didn't want to stop. Plus, it was a really good learning experience for this new librarian. :)

message 43: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4145 comments Mod
I haven't rescued them and I'm not sure I can do it. Most of them are Spanish editions, so it's complicated to find them. And covers...

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I know - I've been rescuing a few from the master list and the number of foreign editions is overwhelming. I'm not touching them, of course, since my language skills are pretty non-existent. I'm hoping for everyone's sake that they will be able to start integrating foreign sources ASAP.

Have you noticed your numbers going down at all since the imports began?

message 45: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4145 comments Mod
They have gone from 156 till 121 (with some help from my side). But I've discovered that the import till works as it likes, the editions in need of rescue are a bit "strange" in some cases, and all the things I expect from the handle of a big quantity of data, so no a lot of hope in a good outcome of this (cynical programmer talking here).

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) :D I've done all the IT *except* program, so I understand where you're coming from. lol

message 47: by Karen (new)

Karen I had about 7 groups and am down to 4. I just did not have the time to do them. And still have trouble participating in 4 I have left.

Exactly.

message 49: by Britney (new)

Britney (tarheels) | 142 comments I have 16 groups, but probably only acive in 8.

message 50: by Denise (new)

Denise (dulcinea3) | 50 comments I'm in Victorians!, because most of my favorite classics are from that period, The Dusty Bookshelf, because I have tons and tons of TBR books and it's great motivation, Tudor History Lovers, because I have lots of books on that subject, The Readers' Review, because there are several people there that I know from the B&N boards, and now this one, because cozies are my favorite genre!
