Reckless has been chosen as our Summer Group Read. This one looks really good - Yes, I was the one who nominated it so I'm rather biased :-) Thanks to Suspense Magazine for recommending this one to me earlier this year. Feel free to join in the discussion anytime July - September if you want to read this book.

I just started reading this book - it seems to be a fast-paced thriller - just what I like!

message 3: by Christine (new)

Christine I just saw the hardback edition at Barnes & Noble for only $5.98!

Susan (aka Just My Op) (justmyop) That's a great price!
I got a copy from the library but haven't dipped into it yet. I want to finish The Serpent and the Stag by Julie Ann Maahs first. I think Reckless will be my first Andrew Gross book.

message 5: by Christine (new)

Christine Its my first Andrew Gross book too. I decided to get it from the library too and I am first on the waiting list. It looks interesting.

I have 40 more pages of The Girl Who Played With Fire

message 6: by Jan C (new)

Jan C (woeisme) | 119 comments I tried the Kindle sample. Part of it looked really interesting but the chapters - they gave the first four - seemed to jump around and it took too long to get back to the part I thought was interesting.

So, I won't be reading this one either. Sorry.

But I will read the posts. Maybe if it sounds interesting enough, I will take another look at it.

message 7: by Janice (new)

Janice This is my first Andrew Gross book, and it has held my attention firmly in it's grasp since I first started it. The story at times seems over the top, but I lead a pretty simple life--I have no idea what may happen in this world when billions of dollars are being snapped around the globe from one entity to another, sometimes legally and sometimes not. The idea of terrorism that aims at financial collapse is not a new one, but this book makes it very interesting, and entirely feasible!!!

Had to return my copy - couldn't renew because people keep putting it on hold :-( I'll be back as soon as I get my hands on the book again.

message 9: by Christine (new)

Christine It took forever for this book to be returned to the library but I finally got it. Hooray!

Got it from the library again. I work at Borders now and was surprised they have Reckless in hardcover available at 50 percent off.

message 11: by Janice (new)

Janice I finished this last week, and almost forgot to post anything here. This was my review:
"This was my first Andrew Gross book, and I found it very absorbing. Lots of action, some very near misses to make this a thriller, but also a well developed plot and intriguing story."
I was looking on my libraries' web page for this title, and it shows this as the third book in a series. I don't remember the first two, but has anyone else read those?

That's news to me.

Susan (aka Just My Op) (justmyop) According to the information at http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk, the previous two books are
The Dark Tide by Andrew Gross The Dark Tide and
Don't Look Twice A Novel by Andrew Gross Don't Look Twice: A Novel.
Fantastic Tiction is a great place to find books in a series.

message 14: by Janice (new)

Janice Thanks, Susan. I love Fantastic Fiction, usually use it all the time, but hadn't looked up Andrew Gross yet. I will probably look for these two books. While reading this one, I wondered if there had been other books with this character, but figured the author just added the info about past cases and happenings to develop the character and add to the story.

Susan (aka Just My Op) (justmyop) I thought that it was just background info until your comment. I haven't read either of the other two, although I have The Dark Tide sitting on my bookshelf, picked it up at a library sale.

I enjoyed Reckless, thought it a quick, entertaining read and not too gruesome. If anyone is interested, I posted my review, http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/..., but the review is short and doesn't have anything particularly insightful in it.

Whoops! :-) We had decided to read series in order - sorry I didn't realize this was part of a series. Oh well :-)

message 17: by Christine (new)

Christine For those of you who read Reckless, is it important to read the books in order? Its okay to be flexible once in a while.

message 18: by Janice (new)

Janice I used to read books in any old order, but since I started paying attention and reading series in order I get more from the books and understand the story at times much better. But even without all the background for Reckless, I did enjoy the book, and most of the story was not dependent on any past theme continuing. I think some of the personal history for the main character would have had more meaning, but the "who done it" part, which was the central part of this book, was not dependent on a past book.

I read book out of order all the time. I've read the Alan Gregory books out of order and recently I've read Catching Fire and The Girl Who Played with Fire. Both of these books are book 2 in popular trilogies and there's been enough backstory that I've done just fine :-) I plan to read both of the afforementioned series completely out order reading books 2,1,3 in that order. Call me crazy, because that's my middle name :-) Ummm. haven't been reading Reckless again, but still plan to catch up on it.

message 20: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I FINALLY got my library copy of Reckless. So far it is reading really fast. I tend to really like books that have several different story lines that you know eventually they will run together for some kind of explosive conclusion. Back to my book.

message 21: by Christine (new)

Christine I guess I will give it a try again. For some reason I am having a hard time getting this one started. I've finally had to return it to the library. I will see if I can check it out again.

Did you read Await Your Reply when we had it as a group read? I highly recommend that book as it has 3 storylines and keeps the reader guessing until the very last chapter about how and if they will come together. After you finish the book, you'll find yourself asking "now what really happened here?". Check it out - I've been recommending it like crazy now that I work at Borders :-) The book is now available in paperback too.

message 23: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) No, Dustin I haven't read Await Your Reply yet but I did just finish Reckless. What a great book! I see it is the third in a series so now I MUST read the first 2. I never could figure out who to trust through this entire book. Very timely subject matter as well. I gave it ★★★★★'s.

I wish Reckless was available on audiobook. I haven't been very successful at reading the actual book but still would like to at some point.

message 25: by Sheila (new)

I think a while back I saw that the Boulder Public Library had ordered the audiobook but didn't have it available yet.... I'll check again and try to put it on hold as soon as I can :-) right now all 10 of my available holds are used up. Thanks for the info.
