I'm in my mid-twenties and am trying to finish a masters degree in English and Women's Studies. With my background, I should despise Twilight, right? Well, I love it, although I would be excommunicated for admitting this to my colleagues. I'm convinced the only reason people in academia hate Twilight so much is because it's popular, especially among young girls. And, despite many attempts to take sentimental fiction seriously and do away with the assumption that women's literature is "lame" or "frivolous," men and women still continue the very pattern of thinking they seek to revise in their own work. For some reason, it's okay to add Susan Warner to the canon, but enjoying Twilight is a sin. Please! It drives me nuts, but I digress.

I read Twilight a) because all of my students (I teach freshman English) went on and on about how much they loved the series, so I was curious and b) a friend of mine with a sense of humor dared me! She said I was too serious to enjoy them, and then dared me to try the first one. Well, I read Twilight in one sitting and bought the rest of the series the next day! I have never read an author who managed to maintain suspense for over 2,000 pages. I love the series because, for one thing, it's so sweet, and I NEVER get to read happy stuff. Also, I thought overall the series had a good message about accepting other cultures and differences. The characters were all well executed, and I just loved the story. The Twilight Saga has given me a fun, loving outlet amid the bleak, intensely stressful culmination of my degree that is the MA thesis. (Shudder.)

Well, "sweet" is probably the wrong word to describe the series, but you get what I mean.

Wanda M. (wmh0121) | 7 comments I am a 30 something who loves the Twilight Saga. I was no an avid reader until I got a wild notion to just sit and read during my lunch breaks. Usually I listen to books on tape but I was determined to read Twilight. I had seen the first movie and listened to the books afterward but this time I actually opened up the books and read each one. And each time I fell in love with them even more now because I had found a patience for reading. I am kind have attention deficit disorder...mild but I can not sit still long enough to read a book or watch a movie. So I am grateful for this series to open my love for books up.

Wanda M. (wmh0121) | 7 comments The books do have a great message about acceptance and learning to live with those who are different from you no matter what the race or species are in this case...LOL

Awesome, Wanda! I listened to a sample of the audiobooks the other day and really like it. Her work sounds great when read aloud.

We're very glad you joined our small but oh so cool group!

Wanda M. (wmh0121) | 7 comments Thanks so much for the welcoming words. I am just glad that I have found a group for grownup twilight fans. I don't have any children so I don't guess I qualify to be a Twi-Mom. So I was excited when I found you. I mean if there are moms here that is great but I think you get my point. I have babbling inner monologue sometimes. Hmmm...sounds like Bella...

Lindis Russell (lindyloudawn) | 19 comments Hello, I'm 40 and I love the Twilight Saga. Me and two of my besties are somewhat obsessed. My favorite charachter is Emmett Cullen, I call him my boyfriend. he he he I love to watch the other two fight over Edward! I'm glad I found this group. I've participated in some other threads about Twilight only to get my feelings hurt and verbally bashed from the haters. I think this is a great story. I'm so glad that vampires have become the trend. Ever since I was little I was facinated by vampires and Twilight has made it okay to love vampires. Showing us that they can be good guys too. Although, when they make a mistake, they tend to make a bad one. : ) Anyway, I'm glad to be a part of a group that will be positive about someting that I love. I am also a pretty big "Potter Geek" I love the Harry Potter series. Others that I have gotten into is the House of Night novels, The Uglies series, Outlander, Vladimir Tod, Hush Hush, and Fallen. I'm also a great big fan of Stephen King. Does all this make me sound creepy. I think that If I were a kid these days. I'd be a goth girl. : ) I do wear a lot of black, but right now, I'd look pretty pathetic with the make up.
Twilight made me remember what it was like to be seventeen and in love again. It's a wonderful story.

I am 60 and a Twi-hard too. I just came back from Forks a few weeks ago. I discovered The Twilight Saga by attempting to answer neverending quiz questions and so I had to read the book, then the next one and was hooked. I have now reread Wuthering Heights since it is Bella's fav book and also reading The Brontes because of Twilight. I have all the CD's and DVD's available and even purchased Claire Du Lune. I always liked it but never thought of buying it before.

I am so very happy to meet a group who can say more than......He is so Hooooooootttttt. etc!

Lindis, I also get extremely irritated by those who trash Twilight. At first it didn't bother me but after I read the 99th nasty pseudo-intellectual comment I began to BURN. I found this group thanks to your picture of Emmett on the neverending quiz. I am not a big fan of vampires altho I have searched for another vampire series similar to this one as I want more but no luck so far. I also "scream" for Twilight on Facebook. I sure wish Stephenie would be able to finish Midnight Sun.

If you get a chance go to Forks. Its sure worth it even tho I went in the off season for fans. I didn't like Port Angeles which gave me the creeps and depression but Forks is wonderful and the drive to get there fascinating. I recently learned as a small child we left for Japan from Port Angeles and I keep wondering if that was one reason I got so depressed there but the hideous mold could have been a factor.

My fav character is Bella but I like them all.

Alice Cullen

Wuthering Heights

The Twilight Saga

ps - I forgot to mention that hubby got me Twilight Tours at Forks which is wonderful for fans. You can "scream" along. We watched it numerous times before going there. He found it at Walmart. Hope you can find a copy too.
