Suzanne | 9 comments Hi there, I am in Ontario, enjoying the fantastic thunderstorms we have been having lately...nothing like curling up with the kids and a good book in the rain :)

message 2: by Sherry (new)

Sherry I'm in Alberta and things are working up to a nice little thunder storm which will cool htings off nicely!

message 3: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 292 comments Mod
I'm in Vancouver, only been here just about 5 years, I was born and raised in Halifax.

message 4: by Shea (new)

Shea | 346 comments I am close to lovely Canada in beautiful Michigan. I live in a small town near Ann Arbor, home of my alma mater the University of Michigan.

message 5: by Mona (new)

Mona | 72 comments I am in Rochester, New York... we just recently had a heat wave last week. It was around 95 degrees, hot and humid. Now today, the high was 63 and chilly! You can NEVER predict what the weather will be around here. :) I love Canada. I have visited many places there.

message 6: by Sherry (new)

Sherry We have a saying here in Alberta. If you don't like the weather out your front door, check the back.I have literally seen this to be true!

message 7: by Sherry (new)

Sherry LittleSaintina, you've certainly been from one end to the other! How do you like Vancouver? Is it very different or does it help that it's still coastal.I've lived on hte mainland and in Winnipeg and I think I experienced culture shock(or something close to it!)

Mona for some reason I thought you lived in South Carolina.I have a terrible time with state abbreviations.

Shea is Michigan more East or central?I am terrible with geograghy!

message 8: by Shea (new)

Shea | 346 comments Michigan is the state that is shaped like a mitten. We are considered "Midwest" in the US. We are just across the river west of Ontario. If you hold up your right hand, palm facing you and bend your thumb a little I live in the crease it makes about a centimeter above your wrist (-:

message 9: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 9 comments Ooops -- Should have started the thread "in this beautiful world!!"

I am actually in Brantford(so not too far from Michigan) sandwhiched between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Which is so confusing as I grew up a 2 min walk from Lake Ontario in Toronto, so to me "south" was always the lake -- now they are east and west :) But it must really be confusing now having the ocean in a different direction!!

message 10: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 292 comments Mod
Sherry, Yes I have been all over Canada, seen every province but Newfoundland, but I will get there. I was in severe shock when I arrived here. I went home 4 times in 2 years, once for 4 months, and nearly didn't come back. It's very diffferent from the east, but I do have a love for it now, the mountains are beautiful. I do love the ocean as well I think it would be difficult for me to live away from it, but then I've never tried.

Winnipeg is a lovely little city, how do you like Alberta compared to that? I found them very friendly there.

I'd love to see more of the States. I've only been to NY, Maine, & Washington. But I just love America, I'm hoping to go to San Fransisco this year...I can't wait.

message 11: by Sherry (new)

Sherry San Fransisco is so fun and there's so much to do there. The museum was one of the best I've ever seen.
Being raised in BC it took quite a bit of adjustment when I moved to Alberta but I really have come to love being here.
You are so right about Winnipeg. It never failed to amaze me that whenever I was in some sort of lineup like the grocery or drycleaners someone ahead of me seemed to know the clerk who also knew all the family members and of coarse would take 10 minutes inquiring about them!It would always take twice as long to get anything done!
I enjoyed my time in Winnipeg and it really is a ptetty city especially in the summer but the winters were awful and Alberta is home.

Only thing missing though is the ocean and I do miss it very much.

message 12: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 292 comments Mod
I can't wait...my husband might have to go on business which is why I'll tag along, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Yes I could see missing the ocean, but you aren't too far, do you come to visit ever? It's so cheap to get between BC and AB. My Husdand works in AB as well, so he's there about once a week.

I haven't seen winnipeg in summer, been there twice for Christmas, I have an Aunt there, it's closer when you need family than going all the way east. Going back to Halifax this year though, my sister is about to have her 3rd baby, so I have to meet the little bugger. 3 boys, and when this guy is born she will have 3 aged 3 and under. Crazy woman, but I envy her, I would love more.

message 13: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Wow,three kids 3 and under. The woman will need nerves of steel!:)
Both my husband and I have lots of family in BC so we try to get back every couple of years, unfortunately house renos are sucking the money up so no trip for us this year.
We'd like to go to Ontario though for our next holiday.I have only seen a little of it and would love to see Niagra Falls.
Actually we were thinking it might be fun to take the train and just sit back and enjoy all the varied and gorgeous scenery.
Oddly enough, though my husband and I are both from BC and frequently lived close to one another(even living in the same rental but at different times) we met here. Life is so weird sometimes!

message 14: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 292 comments Mod
LOL...that is awesome. I love stories like that.

I can understand money sucking issues, as you know life in BC, we are still renting. I can't bring myself to spend half a million on a condo, when I can get a whole house for under 200 back home. I might have to suck it up soon, being a renter is getting tiring as well.

Niagra Falls is beautiful, we're hoping to go back next year, my daughter was only 10 months old last time we went, I hope you get to go, you'll love it.

message 15: by Sherry (new)

Sherry The house prices in BC were part of the reason we settled here though they were getting out of hand here as well last year.Great for equity but lousy for new home buyers.

message 16: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda (icedcap) | 12 comments Another Michigander from the "mitten" state. I'm in a small down in the thumb of the mitten, Lapeer County.

message 17: by Tisha (new)

Tisha I am in San Diego, CA. Is it weird that I have never been to Canada??

P.S. Don't even get me started about house prices... OR gas prices. Right now in San Diego, its $4.66 a gallon.

message 18: by Sherry (new)

Sherry We're paying $1.33 a litre. There are nearly 5 litres to a gallon. That's more than $6 bucks a gallon and we export the damn stuff!

message 19: by Sherry (new)

Sherry I've been to California twice but unfortunately missed the Zoo.Is it still as fantastic as I've heard it is?

Canada is a very pretty country and we share similiar landscapes all along the border.

message 20: by Tisha (new)

Tisha i am in love with San Diego. The Zoo is good, but SeaWorld is better in my opinion. Then again, I am obsessed with water. (lakes, oceans, rivers, streams, waterfalls):) Maybe its because I'm a Cancer. :)

message 21: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 292 comments Mod
Well if it makes you feel any better Sherry we're paying 1.52 out there. Not to mention they threw a carbon tax on us. It's working through, I'm giving up my car when my lease is up. I wonder how many others will as well?

message 22: by Sherry (new)

Sherry I am too! When's your birthday?Mine is on the 13th

message 23: by Tisha (new)

Tisha my birthday is the 14th! But my son shares his bday with you... his is also the 13th.

Get this.... my mom, is the 12th. we are all in a row. :)

Happy almost birthday Sherry.

message 24: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Tisha,my daughter's birthday is today and my grandmother's was the thirteenth as well. All first daughters in our families.

Amazing that he missed by only one day!

Happy almost birthday to you as well.

message 25: by Tisha (new)

Tisha haha...yeah my brothers birthday was the 5th. Family of Cancers. My daughter is the odd one out being born on December 22.

message 26: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Do you all fit the "norm"?Loving, homey and moody?

message 27: by Christine (new)

Christine (CJones75) I am from Dawsonville, Georgia. Lived here most of my life. I was born in Ohio and was moved down here at the age of 2.

message 28: by Tisha (new)

Tisha Sherry,

yeah...except for the "homey" part i guess. I am always busy and rarely get to just relax at home. i like it though, when theres an ok balance!

message 29: by Sera (new)

Sera I am from New Hope, PA, and I am originally from NJ. Since graduating from law school, I have lived in GA, TN and IN. It's nice to be back in the northeast where both my husband's and my families reside. My hubby is also from NJ, but we met in GA - go figure!

message 30: by Sherry (new)

Sherry That was like my husband and I,both from BC but met in Alberta. We often lived within blocks of one another and he even lived in one of the houses I lived in as a little girl.We were meant to be i guess.

message 31: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 35 comments I am in southern Ontario, right on the shores of Lake Erie. I spent some of my growing up years in a very rural area outside of North Bay, Ontario, but Niagara is home for me.

message 32: by Stacie (new)

Stacie Sherry, that is crazy! The same house?!?!?!?!

My husband and I also grew up in the same town...he went to high school with my sister...we knew the same people (his best friend was my one-time boyfriend's brother)...went to the same parties and same concerts and NEVER met. However, one night at a party I wasn't supposed to be at he walked in and I said to a friend, "I am going to marry that guy." And, 6 1/2 years later we did! He can STILL remember what I was wearing that night and swears he felt the same way the moment he saw me.

Meant to be!

message 33: by Sherry (new)

Sherry You live in a very pretty part of Canada,Suzanne.Despite travelling(and living)in a number of provinces,I haven't been any further East than Kenora.

message 34: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Totally!I recognized it from pics he had,and I pulled mine out to show him and sure enough,it was the same place!

message 35: by Sherry (new)

Sherry That's so romantic Stacie. How cool is it that he remembers what you wore!

message 36: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 292 comments Mod
Very Romantic, I like to see mine remember what I left the house in this morning, nevermind the day we met...lol.

message 37: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Haaha,so true Santina,so true!!!

message 38: by Stacie (new)

Stacie That is the thing. He can remember what I was wearing 17 years ago, but can't remember that I told him he has to be home early on Friday! A conversation we have had several times!

message 39: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 292 comments Mod
LOL...They're all the same...but we love them anyway.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello, I just joined your group last night. I live in Thousand Oaks, CA- -a suburb of Los Angeles. It seems like a lot/ most of you are in Canada. Is it OK that I'm not? Coincidently (sp?) I do have duel citizenship-- my dad is from Vancouver.

Anyway, this group interests me as I am a new mom. My daughter Caroline is just over 3 months old. I am a huge reader, and am looking for some Jennifer Weiner-type book suggestions (about moms I can relate to).

Thanks!

Welcome Shannon. We have quite a few Americans in here as well. This is a group for Mommies, not Canadians so you're perfectly welcome.

I currently live in Vancouver, my husband nearly took a job in California.

Congrats on your new baby as well, how are you finding motherhood?

message 42: by Sherry (last edited Aug 13, 2008 01:04PM) (new)

Sherry Hi Shannon, welcome to the group.I had the opportunity for dual citizenship as well because my mother is an american and lives in Portland Oregon.
