Generations past, in the chilled reaches of space, a lost band of itinerant travelers crash-landed on an alien world battered by ferocious storms. While searching for shelter, their numbers split, and half vanished without a trace. The remaining faction struggled for survival in the depths of a rock-shrouded realm they called the Always Dark. Centuries later, beautiful enslaved Dwinn Somuron finds herself leading a dangerous attempt to escape enslavement and to prove to a small band of believers that her family legend of the Herreth's Stone is true—that explorers miraculously survived beyond the stony confines of the Always Dark. Dwinn's single-minded plans quickly become complicated when she meets Lusaar Gursenni, sole son of the head official of the land. Lusaar is on a mission of his own—to make certain his mother retains her dynast title; it is a quest fraught with danger and deception. Together Dwinn and Lusaar battle raging storms and enemies who will stop at nothing to see them dead. What they find and learn is more than either of them imagined. --------- "Daughter of the Stone is a compelling tale that is sure to delight SF fans. The author has imbued this story with descriptions and narratives that make the world come alive." —Fallen Angle Reviews
This story takes place 1000 years after the first, as Juilan Pranss travels off planet for an employment opportunity, but falls into the hands of Joddrie Ferstan, a soldier of fortune with grandiose plans. He takes her to a planet that is being colonized by her known world, where the Ceitwans--the humans of this distant planet--have existed for more than a millennium. They along with the indigenous Xirophans, are resisting the invasion.
Juilan escapes Ferstan, but must quickly come to terms with proof that she is Ceitwan and heir to the mysterious Holder position. She must also prepare to handle the Evincor; only the Holder can touch it without being killed.
Trenner Curembac aids her in learning about the culture, but she is pursued by the current government—who wants her dead so they can install their own aspirant as Holder, and her brother Mylo--who needs her so he can become Holder through a ceremony that could cause her death. ---------- ...A remarkable job of creating an alien culture. Not everyone can do that. --Ardath Mayhar
Action, suspense, and more. The stories are stand-alone, each with new characters and situations. Only the planet and culture are constant.
