Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Have a challenge idea? Let us know what you'd like to challenge everyone to read and we'll post the challenge for you.

Don't have a full challenge idea, just a title or theme you think would be fun? You can share your ideas here.

Judithe | 6566 comments I'll preface my little list of challenges by saying I've become absolutely addicted to them in the past couple of months. Designing a challenge seems like a rather formidable thing (Yz and Rossy have some really great ones!), but I wanted some low-key ones that are fun and not too hard for me, and that also stretch my reading areas while getting me to revisit some good books that I've neglected. That was an amazingly long sentence, so I'll stop and just put up some of my challenges. Feel free to join, and I love to see what other people are reading, and find new books to enjoy too!

I've put mine in new threads, and am looking forward to seeing other people's ideas!

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments You should do some fun challenges here Steph. Maybe quarterly ones, so they're more laid back. I am a HUGE fan of the cover challenges, the color ones and the object ones and they seem to get a good response.

If you ever want to start doing them here and want help, let me know--I'm all over that. :)

Those are so fun...please jump in and set one up! I've only participated in one that was only covers, and just loved it!

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments I've wanted to sit down for awhile and plan a cool kinda "i spy" cover challenge. I'll have to start that. :)

And a color challenge is always cool. We could do the rainbow, and then a few extra fun ones, like a book with a color in the title, an author with a color in their name, wait, that's all I can think of. Lol.

Sandra | 25908 comments Sounds good Laura go for it.

message 7: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I'm going to post a color one for our first official group challenge, so ... please, sit back, relax, enjoy a frosty beverage and your challenge will be presented to you momentarily.

message 8: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yay Steph!

message 9: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments It is done. :)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I may make one. :) Sounds like a fun idea. :)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments You are welcome to do so anytime. :)

message 15: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Thanks for the idea, Amethyst! I know a couple of other groups have a similar challenge using participants names. We usually like to have our own little "twist" to make it different, so we haven't done something exactly like that. BUT, that doesn't mean something along those lines won't appear in the future! Thanks again!

Hope to see you in some of the other SOS challenges!

message 16: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments So...this has been in my brain most of the day. What would you think of doing it (your name) with series? (In honor of SOS's name...), with the option of first/last name...or (one of) your favorite author's names...

message 17: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I like where you're goin' with it. :)

message 18: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Nice twisting Judithe :)

message 19: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments LOL...that's me...twisted and twisting (no, not really...). Still perking...any ideas?

message 20: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I was toying with the author one over at WYA so how about we focus on series name here ;)

message 21: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Yeah...I agree. I had that, and the one over at RRRC in mind (the other groups with similar ideas), and think a different focus is a fun idea. So, series (highly appropriate for us!), and will tinker around with it...after I finish my bingo book for Shelf 2! ;)

message 22: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments If I want to create my own challenge, is there a place to post it. I want to re-read series in order. And I have a few other ideas.
For a color challenge, I was thinking of doing a 64 box of crayola colors challenge. But I'm having trouble finding a list of the original colors.

message 23: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yep, there's a folder for your own challenges Leslie. Challenges - When the Mood Hits.

We were actually tossing up the Crayola Color challenge last year, and I think we fell off the wagon. LOL.

message 24: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Thanks! Do they have to be PNR related challenges? Or can they be any kind?

message 25: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Any kind at all :)

message 26: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Hi, Lady Cate and Leslie. As Sandra mentioned, we do have a color challenge in the "pending" stack that got buried under some others. We'll revisit it and see about posting it here soon.

But, as always, members are welcome to host their own challenge at any time.

message 27: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Welcome, thanks for the suggestion.

Also Lady Cate, you can still join the existing challenges cause they go for one year from when you start. Several members have joined them in the last couple of weeks.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments The "Freebies: Bump It Up or No Rush?" thread at http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9... hasn't seen much activity. I'd like to revive it with a year long challenge to read (or attempt to read no desire to force anyone to finish something awful) at least one freebie a month. Participants have one post to edit on the challenge topic/thread to add the title/author of each month's book with bump/depends/trash judgment but all other details to be added to form and/or discussion on the "Freebies: Bump It Up or No Rush?" thread.

We could renew Valerie's freebie challenge?

message 31: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Sep 09, 2013 02:49PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Or a combination -- I really like the idea of posting on the "bump it" form because I could look up future freebies to see if were bumped so I could try the good ones first. I wish Valerie's freebie challenge books had been input into the bump it spreadsheet — that's a lot of useful data.

I do like giving indie authors a chance but there is only so much horrid writing I can stomach. After reading a bad one, I need challenges like these to get motivated to give a new author a chance.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments Like Debbie mentioned...keeping two posts in 2 different places updated may be a challenge in itself. I did try at the beginning.
