Larry (hal9000i) currently reading Hothouse by Brian Aldiss. Its a science fiction novel set on a far future Earth when the world has stopped spinning and has a day side and a night side. It interested me because the dominant organisms in the book are sentient plants, insects and a small group of humans who must fight to survive in the giant hothouse that has become the planet. In some ways it seems similar to the movie Avatar but this book was written in 1960. Its an interesting tale of survival and ecology.

M (wwwgoodreadscomprofilem) | 337 comments Thanks Jason, Larry for your posts. It proved that there's a lot of genres to read about the environmental themes. Avatar has been described as an ecological movie. What's your thoughts about this film, Larry?

Larry (hal9000i) Well I enjoyed avatar, a great piece of cinema fusing fantasy and science fiction. Bring on the sequel!
But I'm here to discuss books so the book I'm reading now is Call of the Birds by Charles S. Bayne and dtaes from 1929. Its a nice early study on bird calls and bird bird behaviour.

M (wwwgoodreadscomprofilem) | 337 comments Thanks for sharing about the book you're currently reading, Larry. There's an impressive variety of bird calls ! Can you give us some examples you have read in this study ? I'm looking forward to discover more details about some of their behaviors, too.
