Worst Vampire Story?

Mr. D'arcy, Vampire, and, Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.

My reaction is, "What extra insight does vampirism provide into Austen's tightly-buttoned-up environment"? I'm not seeing the connection.
Jack the Ripper was a vampire? Makes LOTS of sense! Lord Byron was a vampire? Ditto! We're talking shadowy, dangerous worlds here, vampires fit in just fine. But... Jane Austen?

I think there's also a vampire book for Queen Victoria in the style of the Abraham Lincoln one. Eek.
I'm going to say this, and hope to not be killed. -ducks down, ready to run-
Twilight
-runs away screaming-

Ooh, contentious... But I agree with you. Not a fan of Meyer's prose-style or her plotting (...baseball?) and in my experience sparkly men don't tend to crush on chicks ;)

So agree on that one. :-)

And real men also don't watch their girls sleep while just sitting in the corner of their room... unless you're my ex.. who was a pedophile in the making.

I totally agree....
Yeah.. but let's move onto a diff convo before I end up puking from lack of intelligence.. even being intelligent about a book without intelligence is less intelligent then being intelligent... yeah, beat that!

It was too similar to another writer I really liked and I did not like the unoriginal characters and silly plot devices (vampires can be killed with apple cider bullets).

Do know where I can get hold of this story? I have friends that are descendants of Scott's antarctic expeditions and it would be such a joke to send them this story as a Christmas present!

Hmm.. that boo has been on my list to read for quit some time now.. i guess I'll take your advice though and take it off...

Beth how many more times are you gonna promote that book? lol
The most boring vampire film I saw was on late night TV and it was called THE LAST and it was very boring, no plot, poor acting.
The only decent thing in it was a girl that kept taking her top off and she got killed by the vampire.
He shot her! Yes a vampire had a gun! and it was in daylight, why bother having a vampire story when the vampire walks about in the sunshine shoting people!

I haven't read too many vampire books, but I have watched alot of vampire movies. Out of all the vampire books I have read, Twilight could be the worst. I am currently reading Dracula, which is good, but hard to read. I like the story, but the language is hard to follow. It is taking me forever to read. When I am done, I will be starting 'Thirsty' by Tracey Bateman. Has anyone read this one? What is your opinion?

I agree, I have seen the Twilight Saga movies just because I liked Breaking Dawn and I want to see how it turns out.
I really liked the Vampire Academy novels. At first it was a little confusing but it got really good. I can't wait for the next one to come out!

Exactly, i mean it explains them, gives them history, and ther is a hott guy. If they turn that into a show/movie he better be smokin:)

I know, Its funny because I say that characters from books are hot, but I don't even know what they look like its all in my head:)

Just tried to view a vampire film called Vampire Diary (No not that one!)made like a video documentary and it way more like blair witch project and would have been more exciting if the Blair was Tony Blair!
It is not a vampire film it is an art film it is fine as a arts film but I can not take it when a vampire gos out hunting every night and then when she drains the blood of a friend asks a human girlfriend to help her get rid of the body to which he is not dead and the vampire suggests they call a doctor (not as a joke) but the human girl says no they should kill the friend (er ... why?) the vampire then gets out a gun and shots him, I hate to think where she was hiding the gun and what was she doing with a gun when trying to get a dead body into the trunk of a car? at that point I turned it off.

The other day I got hold of a short story in which Captain Scott (Scott of the Antarctic) reveals in one last letter home that in reality he was A VAMPIRE!
Oh dear.
As my friend (who read it with me) said, "It's lazy". Yolens and Harris have this idea, and it does have the merit of being original ("good taste" is not an issue here) but they do very very little with it. Scott "just picked up" vampirism like an STD after a lifestyle of debauchery; he surreptitiously drains his expedition colleagues at night; he goes to the South Pole because he thinks he might like to kill himself there... The whole "vampirism" theme is like a glaring red filter stuck over the events of the Expedition, but it doesn't add anything new at all. Fictional Captain Scott honestly might as well have been a werewolf or a were-Yeti for all the insight this story gave!
I guess if reading that has taught me anything, it's that if you're going to go with vampires as a theme... Go deeply into the characters' choices, the angst, the consequences.
My 0.2c. Anyone else read a vampire story that sucked, and if so, how did it suck?
