SOS: Serious Overload of Series discussion
Getting to Know You

Before Joining GoodReads, I Never ...

... I never had people who I could talk books with or who understood why I wanted to read books, at all.

My husband thinks I'm sick but, what the hay, I love to read at any time any where LOL.
Before goodreads, I thought I was strange for my choices in books.

Seriously though, everyone fits in perfectly here at SOS, that's for sure. I'm with all of you in your ...nevers... and LOVE having found so many great people to chat books with here. :)

...started the next book 5 seconds after last one.
...fell behind with my chores.
...had people to chat with about books.
...had so many books to read.
...ran out of money to spend on books.
...was attached to my laptop. And now I have my new smart phone...

...had so many series going simultaneously.
...considered a computer (for GR access) as a necessary companion to my book reading. ^_^
...consistently found so many seriously enjoyable books.
...felt in touch with the UF genre's goings on.

1. knew how many AWESOME paranormal romances there were out there!
2. owned own a Kindle
3. budget money for books!
4. knew what I was missing!
5. Had to worry about getting fired for constantly browsing my goodreads instead of working! (oops!)
6. Go through a 12 step program for becoming a bookaholic!
7. Knew what team I would be on! ( Team Edward or Team Jacob) GASP!
Thank the good Lord for this site!
:D

...never had to worry about getting fired for reading when I should be working! (Reading on my phone so it's harder to tell but still...)

That's bad when reading could cost you your job!
:)
I have a kindle with a black leather cover... at first it just looked like some type of expensive notebook...but I think it's become quite obvious what it is!

knew there were so many vampire and werewolf books.
heard of Shiver! (someone recommended it but I forgot who! So sorry!)
joined book challenges.
made reading lists.
had more books than I could read in a year and STILL have "must buys"
Goodreads + Kindle + Amazon account = addiction!

Where do you work? I work at J.B. Hunt Transport in a cubical farm with eyes everywhere!
EEK!
:)

LMAO, Awesomevegan, I'm right there with ya!

:)
I wonder if anyone has been fired over goodreads...hmm
lol"
Oh, I hope not. But, I can't really say as I work at home and don't have to worry about how much time I spend out here. Otherwise, I might be in trouble. Actually, I doubt I would've created a group if I was working outside of my home. I don't think I'd be able to stay away for too long.
GoodReads has some sort of gravitational pull to it ... sucks ya in and doesn't let go. LOL!

I'm self employed - I'd fire me though - I've spent more time on goodreads and associated sites and reading of course, than i have spent actually working over the last few months. Need to work more so I can buy more books LOL
My husband sure would fire me as a housekeeper LOL

LOL! Thank goodness that between my husband & I, I'm the one that's more picky about keeping the house clean. Otherwise, he'd probably wish he could fire me.

I'm sure my husband would fire me too. lol. He's the one to notice all the stuff that hasn't been done lately, I'm the one with the good excuses.

I do frequently listen to audiobooks while I work, though... Only if I am doing something where I can listen while I work, though. Sometimes, I have to turn it off if I am doing something complicated.

They just blocked craigslist here at work and that was tough enough..lol
Yes my house has not maintained its usual sparkle of cleanliness since I've found good reads...
Life's too short though!
:)

Heheheh. Actually, I'm kind of glad it's blocked. Keeps away the temptation. I just wish it weren't blocked when it's after work and I'm waiting for my hsuband to pick me up. No hours-specific timeframe for blocking *sniffle*
I think I would cry a little if they blocked goodreads!
My hubby has been feeling neglected lately thought, because when I am in the kitchen cooking my netbook is right there at my elbow stuck between a recipie site and here... lol, clean up after dinner gets forgotten now... ;o)

Nice to know I am in such great company :D

Flib, I think I'd have to ask my employer to block the site, if it wasn't already. I don't know if I'd have the willpower to resist otherwise.
Sometimes I don't know if my iPhone is a blessing or a curse. I finally manage to walk away from my computer, only to check email and GR iApp on my phone. LOL Kinda defeats the purpose I had when I walked away ....
I'm tellin' ya - as I said above - GoodReads has some sort of gravitational pull to it ... sucks ya in and doesn't let go! :D All I can do is hang on and enjoy the ride.

But, I couldn't agree more. I can't believe there was a time when I used to struggle to find books I might like to read (in UF/PNR genres).

i agree. before goodreads i was unhappy with my reading choices. i found books read them but was unsatisfied with what i was reading and mainly wouldn't finish the book. i found one book. and eventually found another. but i'm not too sure if it was because the consumer needs have changed or i'm finding things easier.
and then i found goodreads and my mini library has expanded, and i'll never have nothing to read ever again.
now that i've found the right genre that i love (sorry i should say genres- PNR and UF). i can't seem to stop reading. i found this site through yahoo answers where someone was asking what they should read and i was adding them to my list. and i decided to follow the link and the rest they say is history.
so you could say:
before joining goodreads, i never ...
-knew what to read. and
-was happy in my reading selections.

knew there were other readers that read more than I did.
participated in chats, I would just skim thru the comments for recommendations.
found anything that could distract me from reading when I had free time.
thought I would enjoy reading challenges. Keeps me motivated.
Before Goodreads I thought the only person in the world who wrote about vampires was Stephenie Meyer. I crack myself up with my lameness now, but who knew?

Lol! Don't forget about Anne Rice! :)

Lol! Don't forget about A..."
Ha! Oh man, I had forgotten about her.

Before Goodreads I never.....
realized what an enormous task it was to try and get all my TBR books listed in one place. Of course, I've only got about 150 of the 800+ books I own listed.......this could definitely take awhile.....

Besides, there are some challenges I've seen where it would be necessary to have at least some of my books listed. I started with the YA cuz I THOUGHT they were pretty well contained.....I'm finding out I was terribly wrong......they are everywhere!
Me? I never used to have so many books TBR. But, I also never read as much as I do now, so I guess it all equals out in some twisted sort'a way. :)
