I just read on Olyblog that they are thinking about putting a Trader Joe's in Olympia. What do you all think about that? Psyched? Not psyched? Why?

Susan Dunn (susanp) I would loooooove to have a TJ's in Oly! Right now I drive to Lakewood pretty regularly to get stuff, which will probably not happen as much in the future with gas prices the way they are. I have already done my part and e-mailed the TJ's people to request a store here. You guys should all do the same!

Yeah, I already went to the Trader Joe's website and sent a message saying they should move to Olympia, too. It would be a great addition!

Here's the email I got about it:

A friend heard that Trader Joes is deciding whether to put a store in Olympia or Gig Harbor. Please click on the link above and fill out a request for Olympia! If you have a minute to add a comment I've heard it helps. Then pass this on to everyone you know.

There was some really good discussion on Olyblog about the pro's and con's of a TJ's moving in. Many felt like they didn't want Trader Joe's moving in because they would affect the profits for the local grocery stores and the coops. I honestly don't see a lot of overlap between the two markets, and I love Trader Joe's enough to share the shopping love for my family between local stores, coops, the farmer's market, and TJ's. Then again, I shop at Ralph's even though I vehemently disagree with their politics because it's close to my house and they carry good products that I like to buy. It's all interesting food for thought.

Merwyn Haskett | 46 comments I just sent them an Olympia request too. I liked going with my roommate when I lived in Seattle but at the time was just a step above homeless so couldn't afford anything - now I'd welcome being able to buy a lot of what was available.

One of my favorite murals in Olympia got demolished last week. They are tearing down the old Safeway building downtown to make way for the new City Hall (not a Trader Joe's, as I had hoped), and on my walk to the bus stop, I saw the bulldozers, and knew that the TOGI (which I think stood for The Other Guys, Inc.) WonderPig Woman's days were numbered.

The next day, she was nothing but rubble.
WonderPig Woman, you will be missed!

I'm so glad you took pictures of Miss Piggy and the rest of the wall! I heard that there was a really nice new mural next to the Brotherhood dedicated to Ramtha. Anyone seen that yet?

Yeah, the big tree trunk. I hope they are going to put leaves on it?
