MAP | 2 comments Ok, so a while ago I read The Greatest Knight: The Story of William Marshal, and I was wondering in what order to read the rest of the books that either focus on him or that time period written by E.C. I'm having a little bit of trouble just reading the summaries of the books and putting together where in the chronology of King John/William Marshal/etc they fit.

Thanks!

Scarlet Lion is the last half of his story and To Defy a King is about his daughter and Time of Singing is about his father but came after Scarlet Lion and befor To Defy a King. Hope thats not confusing

message 3: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 251 comments The Scarlet Lion should be read after the Greatest Knight. A Place Beyond Courage (about William's father) is a stand-alone and can be read in any order you like, although I enjoyed it more after coming to *know* William in TGK and TSL.

To Defy a King is the sequel to The Time of Singing (which is coming out in the US in Sept. as For the King's Favor). I recommend reading them in order, especially because of the changes in Roger in TDAK. You'll spoil yourself.

Terry | 5 comments Back when I started reading Elizabeth Chadwick I asked the same question and Misfit came to the rescue. Misfit has compiled a wonderful list of all of EC's works with short synopsis and which books go together - it helped me a lot when deciding what to read next.

Here is the link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Medieval-Fict...

Happy Reading!

yes Misfit is a life saver and a great reading buddy, can't count the times she's helped me get thru a rut or find a 'great next read'.

Thanks ladies. I have to say, don't pass up on a slow work day perusing the Listmanias. You won't believe the books I've *discovered* from them. Amazon UK as well - never would have found Shadow of the Moon or Zemindar.

Not medieval but always willing to corrupt,

Zemindar by Valerie Fitzgerald Loved loved loved it. A very Jane Eyre-ish heroine.

Shadow of the Moon by M.M. Kaye Actually a very good companion piece to Zeminar as they both cover the same events, but this time outside the Lucknow Residency.

Anyone who loves 19C India and the British Raj should put this on their list. Oops, don't forget Olivia and Jai and Shalimar either :)

Olivia and Jai by Rebecca Ryman Shalimar by Rebecca Ryman

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments Help me out here Misfit..I have all of EC books & I was fairly certain of the order (the new covers confuse me) where does Daughters of the Grail because wasnt it 1st published as Children of Destiny?? and Shields of Pride do these two go together? or are they stand alones?

message 16: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 251 comments Hi Sandi, Daughters and Children of Destiny are the same as I understand it. I think Daughters is the US title. Shields of Pride is a stand alone. One of her earlier books, but it was republished a year or so ago. My understanding is that these newer releases of her older books have been edited extensively. I have both copies of Daughters of the Grail, but I couldn't tell the difference storywise.

Daughters of the Grail by Elizabeth Chadwick Daughters of the Grail by Elizabeth Chadwick Children of Destiny by Elizabeth Chadwick

Misfit | 251 comments Don't you just love that pink cover?

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments Thanks Misfit..I knew you could come threw for me on this! I used to have all the old books..lent them out & didnt get them back..and with these new covers its very confusing..I bought The Time of Singing and For the King's Favor not realizing its the same book! Ive checked inside the books I asked you about to see if they were published under a previous name..but nothing there..I could have sworn Shields of Pride (another lovely pink copy) went with the other book...thanks for you help.

message 19: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 251 comments No problem. I'm guessing you won't have any trouble unloading the extra copy. At least Amazon finally combined the two editions/reviews. that might help.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments Well..if you dont have a copy..you can have this one for free..Id rather it go to a good home than have the used book guy give me two bucks for it..I cant do paperback swap..not for Canada..so if you want let me know.

message 21: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 251 comments Thanks Sandi, I already have the original version. I'm jealous you know, in Canada one can walk right into a bookstore and find a Chadwick novel.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments So true..guess that makes up for the lousy library! :)

Robin (robin1129) | 14 comments Jumping in here :D --

Sandi, if you don't find another home for it, I'll buy it from you. I've been wanting to try EC from these discussions, but hadn't yet.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments Hi Robin..have you got the first two in the series?
The Greatest Knight: The Story of William Marshal then The Scarlet Lion
then comes For the King's Favor (mine)then the 4th is due out..thats the order to read them.if not youll have to invest in the others to follow the rest...let me know. There are EC stand-alones..that you could start with first..

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments Enjoy Laura! the next one is good too!

message 28: by Laura (new)

Laura Sandi, have you read A Place Beyond Courage?

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments Not yet...it comes after The Scarlet Lion..then comes A Time For singing..AKA..For The Kings Favor (same book different cover!) check out Elizabeth Chadwicks website! I liked the Scarlet Lion better than The greatest Knight...more romance.

message 30: by Laura (new)

Laura glad to know you liked Scarlet Lion, the next book to be read.

That it does. Her older books are more romance oriented, and I'm sure you'll like them a lot.Sabin in Falcons of Montabard is such a hottie. If only they could find an author to pump out medieval romances of that quality....

Sandi, you are lucky living in Canada. IIRC EC's books are readily available on bookshelves, even the older stuff.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments Um..not always..but you can just order in..but a Chadwick book here costs $17.00..plus GST..so I always order threw Amazon.ca get it for $12.00..I write down what I see at the store then compare prices..(cant rely on the librarys here...you got me on that one!)

Really? I recall seeing lots of older Chadwick titles at the Chapters on Robson Street. Although maybe they're a bit more *special* there.

Heh, Robson the Rodeo Drive of Canada and where did I end up spending all my time? Forget the damn furs, chocolates and cigars :)

Must stop and kiss the ground the library is built upon again. I am very very lucky.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments Some are more well stocked then others...my favorite is the "worlds biggest bookstore" in downtown Toronto.
plan to bring your lunch...supper...maybe..a sleep over..and the teaser..a used bookstore beside it that has all the "older" goodies....go only with cash leave the credit cards at home...that way you can still buy groceries for the week..

message 35: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 251 comments I've heard of that one. Sounds dangerous with a capital "D".

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 11 comments Its owned by chapters..just goes under this name.yeah..its got escalators in it to the different book sections..paradise..pure paradise..
