I don't read much other than fantasy, so there is always an undercurrent of good vs. evil. I find Guy Gavriel Kay is good for having a more balanced story that doesn't always drag you through the dregs of humanity. 2 other standalone books that I liked are The Golden Key and To Ride Hell's Chasm Occasionally I'll read an urban fantasy/romance (fluff) that's just pure entertainment. I'm left with such a bad taste in my mouth after Rage, that I really feel I need either something very light or something that can restore my faith in the human race... :/
