RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Gus just posted, on facebook, this link about how libraries are used more than Netflix, etc. for movie access:

This got me thinking...for what else besides books do you use the library?

Our library's computers are pretty much always busy, but I don't use the terminals as much as I use the library's wireless in the "quiet" room sometimes. And I do check out the new movies shelf pretty much every time I'm in the building. And the library lately is doing a lot of cooking/craft classes...they do a great job with community programming. They also show movies on a bigger screen Friday nights...whatever's new out on video. Oh, when the kids were little they always went to storytime, too.

What about you?

Sarah | 13814 comments Books and magazines for me - and the occasional book sale buy. Oh, and sometimes author appearances/lectures, like Michael Pollan and Connie Willis. But when I was in the field working with adults with developmental disabilities, we spent a lot of time at the computers researching jobs.

Phil | 11837 comments Our school board has committee meetings at the library. There are rooms downstairs designed for meetings of up to 10 people.

Pat (patb37) Beside checking out books, I got to the library for book club meetings, an occasional DVD, and occasionally read a newspaper.

I can't get at the internet terminals because they are always busy, and I can't sit and read because all the tables and chair are usually occupied by people mooching the free wi-fi.

Félix (habitseven) There are a couple of library employees that I check out when I go there.

Isn't there a time limit on internet terminals? In our library system there are 1-hour terminals and 30-minute (or maybe it's 15-minute) terminals.

Do you have to return them?

1. I've definitely used my libraries for their air conditioning.
2. CDs and dvds.
3. A few times I've gone to hear authors/speakers. The only one I can think of now is James Fallows.
4. My local library has a crafts hour where you bring whatever project you're working on. I've thought about going but I never have.

Ali (alike) - Journals and online journal access
- A/C
- Events
- Wireless internet
- Silence... it's nice being focused.
- Socializing... I often run into people I know there.

Pretty much all the libraries I usually go to have food in the building as well. So, sometimes lunch. The best one for this is Vancouver Public Library - it has Flying Wedge Pizza. Mmm.

Kendra (okaynevermind) | 5 comments Nothing. I rarely check out other media. Most of the DVDs are taken, along with the computers. I used to use it for required volunteer time if that counts.
