Do you actually like salad/salad dressing?

We had salad with every meal growing up, but I only make one or two a week.
The trick to make it taste good is extra stuff: nuts, seeds, cheese, berries, avocado, beans, etc...
Zu makes a really good avocado-lime dressing.

The dressing is a combination of low fat sour cream, buttermilk, and a few herbs/spices.
Another good salad has romaine, toasted almonds and strawberries. The dressing is homemade balsamic vinegar one (although I'm sure bottled would work fine) whisked together with a couple spoonfuls of strawberry jam.
It depends. I mean, most storebought salad dressing is crappy. And way too thick. It's a good consistency to put on a baked potato, but not on lettuce. But I also don't like my salad naked. It needs something.
I'm often too lazy to make my own salad dressing so what I'll usually do is take whatever storebought dressing I have and use it as a base for something lighter and more liquid. I'll dilute it with olive oil or water, or both, and throw in some good quality soy sauce. And stir.
I also love to throw something hot, like sauteed mushrooms, over a spinach or even just romaine salad.
Mushroom juice would also make a great addition to a salad dressing.

I add baby cucumbers to all my salads (unless it's just a tomato salad). They're super crunchy and refreshing. I add fresh herbs, any kind, to my salads... always - green onion, basil, italian parsley, cilantro... I'll mix the herbs in with the lettuce beforehand... and a bit of spinach... and sometimes a combination of all the above
I also like watercress on my salads, briny veggies (pickles, olives, giardiniera, capers, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm), nuts, craisins, sprouts on my salad. Unfortunately, the sprouts spoil quickly.
If I use the briny veggies, I don't need a dressing... just maybe a bit of lemon juice or vinegar.
My family makes the same salad every time we dine together at home - romaine lettuce, thickly sliced red onion (so my bro can pick them out), diced tomato, cucumbers, bell pepper, and feta... and right before dinner is served, we add a small bit of Good Seasonings Italian dressing and sprinkle a smidge of sea salt and cracked pepper.
My mother would make THE best cucumber salad when I was growing up - cucs, sour cream, a smidge of garlic salt, a splash of lemon juice, black pepper... HOOOMG, and then I discovered it's awfully similar to tzatziki.
During the summertime, I'll make a strawberry salad with sliced strawberries, spinach, some grated romano, walnut pieces, and a bit of strawberry vinaigrette.
I love dressings - the only ones I won't touch - honey mustard, anything chipotle, or anything tomato or mayo based.
I have a relative of the young variety who eats a lot of salad. Apparently he eats so much salad because he loves salad dressing. If he could, he would drink the whole bottle of salad dressing. The young are amusing!

I would try most of the salads above, they sound so good. I think I could happily die in the kitchen of Bdubs.

Yeah, my salads aren't that healthy.
I prefer salads with stuff, too. A lettuce only salad just cannot hold my attention.
In general I like my ice cream the same way. I rarely ever like a plain ice cream. About the plainest I am willing to go is mint chocolate chip. But that's another thread! The ice cream thread!

Me too! Is there an ice cream thread? I must find it and gush about my love for chunk-filled ice cream with a million toppings there.
Ice Cream -> tapioca -> Bubble Tea is the best ever!

You know what's good is couscous with three bean salad. Buy a can of three bean salad (which I LOVE), drain and reserve the liquid. Boil the amount of water you need for the couscous including the bean liquid. Make the couscous. Toss it with the three bean salad. YUM.

That sounds really good! I'll have to try it.

I agree. I like a hearty dinner, usually. Of course, a big salad with a lot of stuff in it can be hearty. But I usually prefer a hot dinner.

I like salads in small amounts and very rarely. Sweeter eats a salad nearly every night and I really couldn't do that to my colon.
Did your mom ever used to buy those envelopes of "salad dressing mix" to which you would add a cup of "salad oil"? Like, you cannot go to the store and buy "salad oil," can you? It's just oil. My mother had never heard of olive oil, most likely, so she would have used vegetable oil.
I don't think you are this interested. I think you are trying to avoid looking at the peen in the other thread. its ok. Just look at the meatus.
If you think I am not interested in envelopes of salad dressing mix, you are underestimating my ability to be interested by prepackaged foodstuffs of earlier decades.
My mom did buy those envelopes of salad dressing mix. We had a special little carafe that was just for shaking the oil and the mix.

Also, salad dressing is gross. I almost always like salad "straight". Besides, some salad dressing is bad for you. However, a local restaurant makes these potatoes with blue cheese dressing that are so good they almost make me cry.
Salad, salad dressing comments?
