100 Books Challenge discussion

This book was great but not as good as everyone made it out to be. The whole story was obviously based on racisim and prejudice and I found it enlightening. The characters were good but the plot was simple.

I thought that it was an interesting read, especially since it was told from the perspective of a child. Definitaly a racially charged book, but, when it comes to contemporary classics, I try to remember what may have been going on at the time that it was written. Things that don't seem very sensational right now may have been incredibly scandalous back then.

Yes, it would've been quite a story back then. It's just so wrong that people who were not guilty didn't even get a fair trial because of the colour of their skin.

This book annoyed me. -_- My teacher replaced every 'nigger' with 'negro'. BUT she said every other swear word in there! -_- Make up your mind, woman.

i started reading it and its still on my shelf because I couldn't get pass the 1st pages-I didnt understand the english

I didnt at first and don't at first with other classic books but usually by the end of the first chapter I get into the flow of the book.

The grammar is horrid, but you can easily shove that aside too get the underlying meaning of the plot.

Wait... there is no plot...

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee – 5***** and a ❤
This is a singularly powerful novel that has touched generations of readers in the 50-something years since it was first published. It is a novel of personal integrity and courage, and shines a light on a particular time and place in America’s history. The characters, even the minor ones, are richly drawn; Lee peoples this small town with a wide range of personalities, strength, weaknesses and ethics. My favorite book of all time. Sissy Spacek capably narrates the audio version.

This is a book that I can start over as soon as I finish it. Absolutely love it. So glad she wrote it.
