Bookmarks gave this book 3 stars; I gave it 4 stars. I do have to agree with many of the Bookmarks reviewers comments. I enjoyed reading it in many ways despite the fact that some characters seemed unreal (in particular, Sheba) and the many plot twists were...well, too many! The descriptive prose was wonderful and many parts of the story were entertaining and/or interesting. The story made me wonder who in the world would ever want to live in or around Charleston society for any reason, though.
Extremely disappointed in this Pat Conroy book. I gave it 1 star. I can't believe it was written by the same man who wrote "The Great Santini" which is one of my all time favorites.
