First of all, this book was quite confusing. I thought it was a great book to read, but I just didn't understand the concept of the novel. Although it was hard to follow, I loved the story. Fantasy novels always appeal to me and this was a very good one at that. The book wasn't the most amazing one I've ever read, but it was definitely one to remember.
What I enjoyed most about the plot was the climax of the story. It just blew me away when the father figured out how to defeat the old gypsy witch. I didn't really get any messages from the book, but i think I might have one. Maybe the author was trying to say that carnivals can make us young and helpless again. For example, in the Mirror Maze, all who went into it, saw themselves as a young child and were very confused by it and got extremely overwhemled. Also, if someone rode the carousel, it made them young again. The message was confusing to me.
For one thing, I've never understood the style that authors use in writing, so I have no idea what to say about Ray Bradbury's style of the novel. Although I'm dumbfounded with the style, I can say a lot about the characters. First of all, best friends Jim and Will are nothing alike, but they were amazing characters. The thing that I enjoyed most about them were that they tried everything they could to stop Mr. Dark and Mr. Cooger. Although they had some troubles along the way, like the gypsy and Jim wanting to ride the carousel, they managed to do it with the help of Mr. Halloway, Will's father.
Finally is the ending. It wasn't too exciting because they did defeat Mr. Dark and the Carnival is gone. Although that's how I expected it to happen, it did have a twist that I enjoyed. Jim wasn't all that ready to give up the Carnival and the carousel because he had the urge to be older. He wanted to be an adult and get rid of his younger life. But in the end, they end up destroying the carousel.
I would defintely recommend this book to different groups of people. One of them is the fantasy lovers. If you like fantasy and are looking for a twist in a story or a weird and different type of fantasy literature, then this is the book to read. Also, if you have the urge to be rid of your innocence, then this book shows you that it's not all happy and amazing. Anyone could read this book and be hooked.
I do have a few questions about the book. First off, why would you write about and evil carnival? Also, why did it matter if the two boys had almost the same birthday? Other than that, great book!
