Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I know that Bridge to Terabithia may not be old enough to be considered a classic to some, but I feel when reading it that it truly is.

What do you guys think?

Miss Bookiverse (missbookiverse) I haven't read it but I watched the movie and if the book is anything like the movie then I love it :D
I agree with you that it could be considered a classic. I know I haven't read it but the feel the story gave me sounds lika good classic children's book.

Carolyn (seeford) | 67 comments I've read the book (long ago) and seen the movie (recently), and the book is definitely better.

I'd say that a children's book that is over 30 years old and being taught in schools today would qualify as a 'classic' to me. But I might be biased. = )

Stefne Miller (stefnemiller) | 5 comments Bridge to Terabithia is one of my favorite books of all time. My teacher read it to us in middle school and I have never forgotten it. The book is 100x better than the movie.

Another great one - Island of the Blue Dolphins.

Paula (pauldajo) The book is over 20 years old. That's classic enough for me. I loved the book, but hated the ending. Very upsetting.

Arya (izlandzadi) | 686 comments Ugh I hated the movie because I cried so much. I have never read the book and I probably won't because I would cry again. I am sure the writing was great and I can already tell from the movie that the plot was amazing but I CANNOT DO IT. Too much saddness! It is making me sad just thinking about it . . . *sobs*

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Yeah, I totally was choking up at the end of the book! I hate to say that sad books make great classics... but they totally do! I'm glad you guys agree with me! :)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) Bridge to Terabithia does make a great book to discuss with students. I did a discussion with 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students two years ago and it was a very enjoyable afternoon. I would consider this book a "classic."

Paula (pauldajo) The book was amazing, but the ending was so unexpected and sad that I ran around ranting about it for days. I read the book before I saw the movie. While watching the movie I kept muttering to myself "Oh, they look so happy now, but just wait...". Still a great book.

Todd Tystad (toddrtystad) Here's what I learned from Bridge to Terabithia: Even if you're reading a book and you really dislike it, there can be a sudden turn of events that will cause you to be really, really glad you read it when you're done.

The movie, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. But isn't that the case with most books made into movies?

Jennifer | 1 comments I think "Bridge to Terabithia" is a classic children's book. To me a classic book is one that makes you see the world in a different way and stays with you the rest of your life. And when you reread a classic book at any age, you still gain a new perspective.

That is why although I enjoyed the Harry Potter books, I don't view them as being classics. They were entertaining, but there wasn't anything more to them.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I would consider this book a Classic. If not right now, it WILL be a few years down the road. I much prefer the book to the film, but the movie version was good in my opinion. It's such a sad and touching story.
