With the Hudson's, we are introduced to the first African American main character in a V.C. Andrews series! It is also one of the first books to merge everyday hard reality with the standards of Andrew's Gothic fantasy setting. Please feel free to add your thoughts below.

Lori (loripsychoticstate) | 6 comments Haven't read the Hudson series, Jody. Is is worth picking up? I tend to compare the later Andrews books to the earlier - - maybe an unfair comparison?

I have to say, I like it a lot better then the mini-series books and the "Logan" series. I actually welcomed the slight change of a African American character, but sadly I never finished the series yet and the last book, "Gathering Clouds" is only available within the DVD box.

"The series had ended with only four books until a prequel, titled Gathering Clouds, was announced. The book will be released alongside the movie adaptation of Rain (2007) and will reveal the story of Rain's birth mother."

Erin H I didn't like this series because I thought the grandmother was too nice. I'm used to reading about grandmas like Kathy's and even Heaven's who tended to be a bit mean to them. I only think this because I thought Rain got the house and money too easily even though she had a tough life before that. I loved the character of Rain especially when she became paralyzed because it showed just how strong she could be. I also liked that she was a little older than usual when her story began.

Destiny | 10 comments The grandmother in this series was refreshing as opposed to the typicl granndmother. Rain was so nice and did nothing wrong. I believe that Rain was so loveable and her granndmother needed to someone to love. I am annoyed that "gathering clouds" is so hard to find and the story is not floating around somewhere on the internet to be read.

Brianna | 22 comments I've read about the first sixty pages of Rain, but put it down. From this topic, it seems like the Hudson series is one of the better ghost-written ones. Will definitely have to finish it now.

I agree, I had to actually buy the movie (which I haven't watched yet) to get the book.

I actually have a scanned copy that someone sent me. Not the best quality but I bought a pre-viewed DVD of Rain so there was of course no book. I bet the movie places threw them out. I still haven't read it, though.

Destiny | 10 comments Lucky! I've looked on ebay and places like that but no luck.

Jen (jncahill) | 39 comments If the book isn't too long, I may consider typing it up.

message 11: by Destiny (new)

Destiny | 10 comments I believe it's 46 pages. I'm surprised more people aren't selling them since they re in demand with fans.

message 12: by Jen (new)

Jen (jncahill) | 39 comments Yeah, I tried looking for them too but no one seems to have them. You'd think they would at least offer it online somewhere. Pretty poor marketing strategy on their part but it seems to be a trend with the new VCA books. Despite many protests from longtime fans, they are going to have some books that are only available in e-book.

Destiny | 10 comments You would think. That stinks but I have a ereader. They re discussing having ebook only first and then releasing paperbacks

Karen (kare76) | 4 comments I just read the whole series and loved it! it diverted a bit from the other series because the main character was part African American AND she actually developed a relationship with the grandmother who was strong willed but caring...thus was all very refreshing after reading all the previous series.
