According to Hawking, the danger is that they not only would be sophisticated enough to figure all of this out, but would realize how primitive we are and come and get us, so we should stay quiet.

I remember from when I was young someone talking about some signal being sent to outerspace. It was repeating X digits (121?) that had only one set of factoring numbers. When factored, it showed an outline of a human body. This chapter reminded me of that. Would the aliens have a tool to capture the radio signals? Would the aliens even get the signal? Would the aliens have eyes to see the picture? Would the aliens factor the repeating pattern in to a square picture?
