Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Well, it is the month for ghouls and goblins, magic and mystery, so....

October 2010: Halloween- Read a YA book with magic OR read a ghost story.

Arya (izlandzadi) | 686 comments Oooooh *creepy music plays in background* a ghost story! Sounds like fun!!

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) What types of spooks do you include in a ghost story (if any others)?

We'll do it on a one on one basis- what were you thinking?

Witches, zombies, etc? Not really sure, just wanting to know what you mean by ghost story... A spooky book or an actual ghost in the story book.

So glad you're asking this... I mostly read fantasy/paranormal/urban fantasy/vampire/lycanthrope stuff, so I'm wondering if that fits under "ghost story" or what, too. If so, this is going to be any easy challenge for me! :D

Following books being questioned: Tantalize (paranormal,) Peeps (vampires,) A Great and Terrible Beauty (pretty sure this is a ghost story,) The Amulet of Samarkand (magic,) The Book of Lost Things (sounds like magic would be involved.)

I'm doing a challenge in another group with spooky Halloween type creatures (vamps/werewolves/zombies/things that go bump in the night) so it'd be nice to get credit in both places.

message 8: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Will discuss this with my co-host and get back with you...

Kellee and I talked about this one and I think we decided not to included everything Halloween-y, but limit it to magic and ghosts. A story that includes ghosts can count.

message 10: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Okey dokey, just wanted to be sure :) I don't have many ghost stories, but I do have plenty o' magic ones!

message 11: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 136 comments Do they have to be YA books or can they be juvenile as well?

message 12: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Juvenile, Middle Grade and YA are all okay as long as they are over 100 pages.

message 13: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 136 comments That's what I thought - thanks!! :)

message 14: by Amy (new)

Amy What about a vampire story that includes magic? Would that work?

message 15: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Amy wrote: "What about a vampire story that includes magic? Would that work?"

As long as there is magic in it, yes :)

message 16: by Amy (new)

Amy Excellent! Is there a separate thread to post our October books?

Bill (reedye) | 71 comments That's not Rampant is it Kristen?

message 22: by Amy (new)

Amy Kellee...I went back and did an edit on my post for the date I read the book.

Killer unicorns??? Crazy!

Must discuss it with Jennifer. It doesn't exactly fit the task... But unicorns themselves are kind of magical... Will let you know.

message 25: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Are the unicorns performing magic?

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I need to pick up the second book Ascendant asap.

message 35: by Katrina (new)

Katrina | 18 comments I would suggest Milrose Munce and the Den of Professional Help. It is kind of out there. The main character Milrose can talk to ghosts but the school doesn't like that so they send him to the den of Professional Help. Very sarcastic and witty but very charming. I have already read it, but if someone is looking for a read, it could be an option

message 36: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I finished Glimmerglass by Jenna Black on audiobook today. This is one of only a few audiobooks I enjoyed, so hurray!

EDIT: Actually, I just went through all the threads and made a counting of the books that I've listed and a spreadsheet and other groovy things, and, apparently, I should have 16 points - not 13.

Did you like it on audio?!?!? Isn't Gaiman fantastic! I think that it is one of the books that may be better to listen to than read...

Gaiman's *always* fantastic to listen to - even when his stories don't make sense to me. ...not that I'm a fangirl or anything.

message 49: by Kayla (new)

Kayla | 40 comments I read Evermore by Alyson Noel. The main character, Ever, has been able to see people's auras, hear their thoughts and can see ghosts ever since she had a near death experience. The main guy in this book has magical powers and he can makes things appear out of thin air.

Points Earned: 2

Amy Evermore was so great. I really loved and was surprised by the ending.
