Joanie | 103 comments I think I listened to this on tape, I'm not sure. It's about the deterioration of a family after a tragic event. I don't know what it was about this book, I kept expecting it to take a totally different turn than it did and I wound up feeling disappointed.

Laurie (ardelia27) I thought this book was so painfully depressing that it was disappointing to read. While a family in crisis can certainly deteriorate, I thought all of these characters were weak. Also, I didn't see the family as a strong united family to begin with. I kept hoping that things would get better but they just didn't. Definitely not impressive to me.

Trisha I loved this book.
Maybe because I am a survivor. And, my father has come to pieces over my attack. I identified with the main character because I know, when I look into my father's eyes, I can see that it hurts him to look at me.All he sees is how he failed to protect me.My father is also the family member believes if we just don't talk about it and then it never happened. He changed just as her father did.

I think this book is a painfully true account of how a family handles something so real and awful. You look at the pain and destruction square in the face with this book and when you're done, you know it's changed you.
And when something like an attack shakes the foundation of a family, you just never know how each person will take it. Each person handles it in their own way ~ whether right or wrong.
