Carol (actutor) What is holding your attention this week?

message 2: by Stacey (new)

Stacey *double post from another thread* I bought The False Friend without reading any reviews(which I never do). I was very spontaneous w/my 40% Borders coupon. However, I have to put it down to read Cold Rock River for a swap I'm in @ PBS. I have this week off so I should get both of those read this week.

message 3: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) I'm reading Mockingjay and loving it.

Jennifer (jml_417) I'm hoping to finish The Swiss Family Robinson this week and start The Saving Graces: A Novel.

I'm also hoping to make some more headway on The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm (can't find a link to the book I've got - even though it's showing correctly on my TBR shelf here on goodreads) - if I finish before the end of the year, I'll be a very happy camper.

message 5: by Liz (new)

Liz Just finished "Wanna Get Lucky" by Deborah Coonts. First in a new mystery series set in Las Vegas. Really don't know what's up next. I should go with one of the two books due back at the library first. But I think I may skip ahead & read "I'd Know You Anywhere" by Laura Lippman.

message 6: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I started "An Impartial Witness" by Charles Todd yesterday and it swept me away for a little while. I'm also a few pages into "Kitchen House."

Dannielle Insalaco | 51 comments I finished The Fall by Guillermo del Toro, the second book in The Strain trilogy. Awesome! I put down Freedom to read Traveling with Pomegranates by Sue Monk Kidd and her daughter. This book is really speaking to me. I seem to highlight a sentence on every page!!!!

Good to hear you're enjoying 'Traveling with Pomegranates', Danielle. I enjoy Sue Monk Kidd's work and will have to add this to my to-read list.

Jen Backler (backler) I'm reading The Book of Negroes now. It's been on my shelf for a long time and I have been reading all the excellent reviews from my buddies here on Goodreads lately, so I had to read it next (Jen L included).

I'm captivated by it and I'm only 100 pages in. I wish I could bring it to work and read it all day. :)

message 12: by Annika (new)

Annika The Book of Negroes was really great! I lent it to my mother after I'd finished and she also raved about it.

Yay! I hope you like it too! I started slow, only because I was so busy when I started the book, but once I got going, I couldn't put it down. I loved it and gave it 5-stars, even though there were some parts that I thought were just too convenient and a little too tidy tying up loose ends. But, the overall story and the way it was written more than made up for any flaws I found.

Melissa, it's not fiction...it's what my mom calls a navelgazer (lol) but I can identify with turning 50 and feeling on the cusp of some sort of rebirth.

Still!! Your writing in a book!!

message 19: by Sara (new)

Sara (rstjm4) | 70 comments So many good sounding books!! My TBR list gets longer and longer!!!

Right now I am reading Room and will probably finish it tonight or tomorrow. Then I am not sure as I have a stack here to chose from!

message 20: by Elise (new)

Elise I finished Mockingjay. It was good, but nowhere near as good as the previous two. The end worked, though.

I was about to pick up The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, but just found out that I have two holds in at the library, so I might just try to get there tomorrow. The one I'm most anxious to read is Michael Connelly's new one, Reversal. Because of budget cuts, our library is only open 4 days a week, so if I don't make it tomorrow, I'll have to wait till Saturday. That just stinks, I think.
